Reasons, Purpose and some imagination

Seeing things through a looking glass, without a Mirror

"Do you see that piece of decorative metal there, it could be used as a picture frame?" As I point my pointer finger, to show my friend the direction of my regard. "Where? What?" She questions, looking around. Poking, my finger I look at her "There–there–see it? There yes, that’s it; the decorative metal piece, it could be used as a picture frame!" My friend looks at it, turns it around, "Corey, this is a hand-mirror, missing the mirror. "My friend likes to tell me, the real name for the objects I like.
Half the time I don’t see the real identity of the object and the other half of the time I change the identity to suit my fancy. My friend likes to state the obvious and tries to imagine it well put in her house.
"Corey, do you think this cinder box would look good in the living room by the fireplace? Or maybe at, the foot of my bed? You know, the purpose of a cinder box, don’t you?"
Looking at the cinder box I see it transform like Cinderella right before my eyes! "Yes, it would look nice by your bedside. Or you could line it with linen, and put it on your kitchen counter and use it as a cookie jar! Or, or you could put it on your desk as a catch-all for your pencils and pens and desk things, or then again, you could put it in the bathroom on the counter with some soaps and lotion, maybe a towel rolled-up could fit in there too!" I want to share all my ideas, but my friend is shaking her head smiling, "Yeah okay, I could use it AS a cinder box…. Right?"
I pick up the piece of metal, pay the dealer and on we walk. My friend looks at the hand-mirror with the mirror missing, and says, "Wouldn’t this look nice enough, just as it is, hanging against a wall?" She is right, why add to it! A picture would distract the eye from the form. "Or I could…" My friend looks at me and laughs, "Do you ever stop?"
Everything has a reason and purpose under heaven, and everything can change with some imagination.

  1. Oh the possibilities ~ this is also one of the reasons I so much adore pre~loved items…their history and their present. I love things re~used as something different, much more interesting 🙂
I think you made a lovely choice to display your beautiful piece, just as it is.
