Petal by Petal

To say I love roses is an understatement. The perfume, the scent that sends me faraway, maybe further than the moon, pass the stars. Oh, cotton candy petals. The bedtime fluff. The romantic swirl; dizziness! The sheer joy! The delicate curl, gentle bend, enticing depth. Roses are my muse. Roses speak love, can you hear it! Shouting in a sing song silence, wrapping its tender coat around my heart and then leading me to the unknown places within, allowing me to unfold and not be afraid. Where I dare not go…though love leads! Making love is my muse.

Where do you dare not go though love leads you? Can you take one rose petal and follow?

  1. I can never quite decide which is my favourite flower. I, too, love roses for their romantic implications. Yet I am also drawn to the simple elegance of a tulip, or the vibrant blue of a cornflower, and lastly, the inviting warmth of the cheerful sunflower.
I love them all. Bringing them into my home takes me right into my heart.

  2. Hard to say.We celebrated our silver wedding last summer, and in my speach for my dh then I talked about my love for him is like breathing – I cannot live without.
I made a link to your blog in my blog today ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I too love roses…………
Won’t you come into my garden I would like my roses to meet you………….
    Bravo!
    Another glorious piece and photograph!

  4. I’m following the rose petal…very tentatively…hoping it leads me to a bloom.

  5. Where do I dare not go that love leads ~ sometimes, love asks us to rebel against those things that hinder it. Presently, I think this is where love is leading me.
    another lovely post, C.

  6. so very beautiful corey! thank you for your words this morning and the beautiful image!

  7. I too love roses. In the 70’s when the vouge was daisies, I loved roses. Each rose is different than the next and yes, the rose does speak romance. You described it in words worthy of the rose itself.

  8. As I write this, I’m looking at a dozen beautiful white roses, with a subtle blush of pale pink in their center. White roses are my favourite – something both elegant and decadent about them. I love roses of any colour; they’ve punctuated romance(s) throughout my life. Once a clueless man gave me carnations, which in the South we consider a funeral flower; that was the end of him! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Beautiful words Corey! Yes I can hear it! Er but I dunno and I wonder where it would lead me too! Can’t wait for the roses in my garden to bloom!

  10. I like your take on roses. I’ve never thought about what is my muse. Now I feel I must apply myself to this thought.
    Must. Know. Muse.

  11. This is the most exquisite picture! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rose photographed at this angle before. It fills me with a longing, as do your words, and a floating sensation, like my feet are no longer touching the ground. Lovely!

  12. Pink.. is healing and represents love and romance.:) Roses to rule me…ahhh yes the beauty of one pink rose!!

“wrapping its tender coat around my heart and then leading me to the unknown places within, allowing me to unfold and not be afraid.” beautiful and absolutely true.

  14. Corey,
Beautiful, beautiful words, beautiful photograph. I can smell those gorgeous roses as if I am holding them here within my own hand. Given roses as I awake… What a glorious way to start the day! Thank you Corey.

  15. You reminded me of all the roses in Provence last May — they were especially fragrant. Something in the air — the breed too I think were antique breeds. YUM ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
I’m back in Paris painting chocolates but not eating them this time…

Roses were my sisters favorite flower. When I see or smell them my heart is filled and breaks at the same time.

  17. you have some great muses…
where do I dare not go? I will have to think on that awhile.

  18. I keep rose oil on my desk at work. The scent leads me to the world outside when I am stuck INSIDE. Thank you Corey for another lovely start to my day.

  19. Oh your words were pure poetry today. Roses always remind me of frilly womens dresses back in older times.
Ruffles, upon ruffles, romantic, feminine and beautiful.

  20. Risking my heart and soul…everytime I follow a petal…otherwise not living life.

  21. your way of seeing and experiencing a rose is spot on, and so lovely. as i read your words, i realized, yes, the scent of a rose does take away fear and fill my entire self with love. thank you for putting it all into words.
my last post was a photo of a rose in my garden which has the sweetest, most complex scent. it has the power to utterly transport me from the mundane to the sublime. i wish i could send you one!

  23. We share this obsessive love Corey! I have always wanted to take a bath in a pool of rose-petals… Drink Rose-dew nectar and wear a dress made of real roses… Today I take a rose petal and follow the light in hopes of better sight… Kisses to you!

  24. I didn’t realize about the hidden messages!

  25. you remind me of pablo neruda with this one. he often wrote odes to the things he loved too.

  26. I love roses too Corey. I am in process of nursing back to health four little rose plants that were my grandmother’s many years ago. When she died, I dug 15 of them up and moved them to my home before her house was sold. Four of them remain and I am attempting to plant them here at my new home. They are a living legacy.

  27. I love roses too!! But you express you love for them much more beautifully ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Roses always remind me of my Granna. She loved them, to me, they are a symbol of my Granna’s love for me. Beautiful words and post.

  29. Oh, I love roses too. And your writing!

  30. The part Snowsparkle quoted was the part that riveted me, too.
There is a wild path near here lined with wild roses โ€” single-petaled, open in simplicity to the sun, nodding to the breeze, caressing me as I walk by with a warm, sweet scent โ€” oh, it’s mood-changing, mind-altering!

  31. Corey…..breathtaking rose! thanks for your comments on my blog. i don’t know if those are corn flowers or not. i don’t think so, but i will take a pic just for you and post it. hopefully if i take it close enough you will be able to tell:) ~L.

As I said before, you have such a way with words Corey…… I have a couple of roses that have that special smell….I don’t think all the roses do…. I can’t wait for some of my flowers to bloom so I can post them too.

  33. Lovely rose. I’ll duck the ‘love leads you’ question for the moment, if you don’t mind!

  34. la vie en rose…now that is sweet!

  35. Beautiful, beautiful. Roses truly are the richest of flowers. I have my rose moments, moments of mystery and veiled invitation, but I think that I am mostly made up of daisies, all happy nodding and simple pleasures.
Thanks for a beautiful photo and lovely thoughts.

  36. A treasure hunt!! Still looking for the hidden message. Does it work in all browsers?

  37. I can smell the sweetness from here, thank you!

  38. This is just a stunning rose photo! I’ve tried to capture my roses on film but never got results like this. Beautiful!

  42. Hi Corey,
G’day from Oz. I found your blog through Google while searching for rose petals. I have so thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts. France is amaaaazing!!!!
I tried to email you but my computer is being dumb? I wrote a poem called ‘Eating Rose Petals’ and would love to have your permission to have this exquisite photo accompany it on my blog. It’s just edible. Is it from your garden?
