Song Catcher

Songs of life were swirling above her, it called to her as she walked by…as much as she wanted to be part of it, to enter into the flow swirling around her, she didn’t believe she could fit in. Tempestuous dreams fluttered in her heart, stirred her imagination, causing an ache in the back of her throat. The longing like buried seeds seem to sprout…how fearful it was to trust something she never held before.

Then like a song, that sings over and over in our minds, barely uttering on our lips, a song that haunts us day long, the message of the words broke forth…If we cannot join the song of life that sings to us, tempting us to take part…we can give one feather at a time, one step, one word, one leaf…maybe we cannot do what we desire, maybe we cannot give our whole self just yet….nevertheless, we can honor our desire by giving it one small gesture at a time.

Surely a nest is made in such a way.

photo: In Pompeii there is an archway, this is a small example of the amazing carving that still stands…Brave truth that the song of life does reach out to us, and we can endure many a storm.

  3. One day, one step at a time. Sometimes that’s all we can do, and sometimes it helps us to stop and enjoy the beauty along the way. Nel

  4. How true are these words. They stir my emotions as I reach out for life while readying myself for the storm.

    In more ways than one.
    PS Just curious, I know its from Pompeii, but is this carving Ancient Roman or no? The incredible beauty remains either way, but I was just curious : )

    To everything there is a season,
    a time for every purpose under the sun.
    A time to be born and a time to die;
    a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
    a time to kill and a time to heal …
    a time to weep and a time to laugh;
    a time to mourn and a time to dance …
    a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
    a time to lose and a time to seek;
    a time to rend and a time to sew;
    a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
    a time to love and a time to hate;
    a time for war and a time for peace.
    ecclesiastes 3:1-8
    This came to mind. Love your post as usual.

    A French saying goes: “Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid”, in English: Little by little the bird makes its nest…
    I like this saying and the image it brings to my mind… but it remains only a saying compared to your beautiful -and accurate- prose …
    Thank you for sharing with us!

  19. Beautifully inspirational post, Corey. I can identify with that “causing an ache in the back of the throat” concept.
    It is difficult to take those first steps, but so rewarding when taken. Thank you for your encouragement and support.

    Indeed we can and it’s a rare life that doesn’t experience both sunshine and rain. Sometimes with a little thunder and lightening thrown in.
    Most of of our lives are lived one small moment at a time, but oh what a differece a day can make!
    A smile here, a hello there, a hug given and received. It all comes back to us. One small gesture at a time.

  21. and the turkish saying is.. that it’s the female bird that builds the nest..
    so a great responsibility.. just to be carried by a serious female mind..
    that is what you and I are..
    nest maker female birds..
    enjoy

    Dear Corey,
    The night after my father died, something happend to me involving a calling bird, trees swaying, and the light of the full moon. These became the symbols of my dad. Today your post was gift from you and a reminder to me of him.
    Many small actions and staying focused on what one wants is the only way to make a dream come true. I once heard that successful people are willing to do the things that unsuccssful people are not willing to do.

  27. A sip, a taste, a smile, a kind word..each step a tentative touch that when received positively gives us the courage to grow.

  28. You should file this under “Beyond Category” it’s truly wonderful.
