South of France

My next door neighbor’s door is

painted in boeuf rouge and ocre jaune.

The forged iron door handle and lock have been worn smooth as silk,

a door that has welcomed many during the last two hundred years or more.

What does your next door neighbor’s door look like?

Nothing exciting about my next door neighbours’door as the original one (from the 1970s) was removed for a bright white plastic one ! Not “smooth” really, I would rather say “glossy” because of its modern material and its barrenness.
When you come to that door, you do not feel like knocking at it and you hold your hand in the air for a short while…
When you have managed to go beyond your first impression and have actually knocked, you still wonder if you did well… until it flies open on a smile !

My family and I have been to Provence several times, visiting its various parts : les Alpilles, la Côte Bleue, la Camargue, …etc…
We once ended up in Rustrel, (in Lubéron), known as “Provençal Colorado” with its palette of ocres in the village and in the landsape all around… Beautiful !

  3. Certainly nothing at all like this!! After all, I live in Indiana.

  4. It’s a solid gate that gives the impression of ‘visitors not welcome’…oh well lol, I still say hello! Nel

  5. great photo—
you made me think of my neighbors door – and I realized that I only remember the path through the woods – not the door – will have to walk over and look 🙂

  6. I love painted doors and porches…there is just something about them…perhaps a story of the families behind them.
    Beautiful photo!

  7. My neighbor’s door is just an ordinary builder’s grade door.
Your neighbor’s door is extraordinary. I wonder what all the different colors it’s been during the past 200 yrs.

  8. Love is knocking at my door.
    Going to let love in.
    Kisses Sugar Plum!
Love all you post as always.
    Unlock the door to Happiness.
    Love Jeanne ^j^

  9. My neighbor’s door is purple.
    Purple is very common for
doors here as it is symbolic of welcome. Sadly THIS purple is not the color usually used.
    It hurts my eyes.
And the knocker and handle set have been worn smooth – by use and by the old lady who lived there and made it her job to polish all the brass in the house every thursday…

  10. oooh that is a perceptive question, Corey… some people have never seen their neighbour’s doors. Sad, really.
Our neighbours have a glass sliding door which makes it difficult to work out where it actually opens and where to knock!

  11. Aaah..neighbours. They say to have a good neighbour, just be a good neighbour. We have one on each side, one door is white and shiny, and lacks character ~ like it’s occupants. The other side is green, and scruffy, but the owners regularly welcome friends and family.

  12. the houses are not that close in the neighborhood i live in…i think the nearest neighbor’s door is green…not sure…we don’t really go over there…sad, i know, but the lady of that house is, we believe, the neighborhood gossip…

  13. My neigbours next door spells love and kindness..care and share! An example when I recieved my LAST radiation treatment Debbie brought me a plate FILLED with home made choc. chip cookies! There is always a bright cheery smile when they greet us.They are a young couple and have a soft gentle
kind spirit about them and the way they care for their
two young boys!Their parents did a fabulous job in bringing them up to be model citizens in a world that sometimes can be cruel.
**Their front doo a shade of *RED..is the great energizer the colour of life! It relates to growth, happiness, joy, passion and virtue.YES that describes my neighbour on my right!

  14. Like Shannon, my neighbor’s door is the one installed when the house was build 20 years ago. Painted cream with basic lockset and handle in lacquered brass.
I’m fascinated with old doors and their hardware. I have several pictures of doors that intrigued me–wondering about who has entered there, the many hands that have turned the handle.
A breath of fresh air as usual, Corey 🙂

  15. My neighbor’s door is exactly like mine as I live in an apartment building. I seldom see her but I do hear her through the thin walls and, every time I take an early morning shower, I wake her up. I can hear her sleepily talking to her boyfriend. At least neither of us plays loud music.

  16. Doors have many facades and yet we can only guess at what’s behind its enclosure. A door of a home is ones passage from the outside world into their private sanctuary. Though from its exterior look it may give a clue to what one will expect… weather beaten, centuries old or lacking character one will never know for sure what awaits them on the other side until they enter. My neighbor’s door is white and new; a blank canvas to paint whatever you want but then…inside?
    Love the old door.
    Annabelle =^..^= xo

  17. mu neighboor’s door is pale blue like the sky and always open to us, as our pine colored door is to them.

  18. Thank you for the timely reminder to check in with my elderly neighbors.

  19. My neighbors’ door is dark pine green. Sometimes it is left ajar…He has advanced Parkinson’s disease and is 2 years older than I. I remind him his door sometimes is left open…he does not care and then he laughs and tells more jokes.

  20. My neighbour and I live in Edwardian houses and her front door in in 2 parts opening at the centre. In Edwardian times in England the wider the door the grander the house. It was people’s way of telling other show wealthy they were. My door has been replaced at some time and is very large but opens as a normal door does. This means mine sticks on the floor that was built to accomadate the originals. The floor in the entrance is Carrera Marble and is scratched where the door scuffs against it. I like that as it shows years and years of people passing through and I often wonder who made what scratch.

  21. The neighbor’s door is a Dutch Door, the top half of which is open all summer long. Once one of their cows slipped the pasture fence and wandered over, sticking her head in to see what was cooking. The neighbors are as friendly as their door –

  22. Oh, Corey, how I’ve missed your work. I’ve been out of town and then ridiculously busy making up for being away. Coming to the site, I am once again reminded of how blessed I am to see your beautiful heart displayed on my computer screen.
thank you for your lovely images. Thank you for your thought provoking words.
    Thank. You.

  23. Closed. Isn’t that sad? It’s a beautiful old worn wood door and it sports a beautiful twig and berry wreath, but my neighbors are rarely at home.

  24. 200 years or more! Wow. That is just cool.
The history. All the hands that have knocked on that door!
    🙂

  25. Wow! I love that door. My neighbors door is white. We don’t have doors that look like that around where I live. I love old houses that do.

  26. oo nothing like your’s.. I live in the modern part of the city.. and nothing very interesting..
    enjoy.. the week..

  27. Brother Mathew

My neighbor Bruce has a nice oak door and it’s always open. My other neighbor has a nice mahogany job with a huge knocker. I have a thing for big knockers.

  28. My neighbor’s door looks like mine and all the other doors in the building. Non-descript!
However, I have a colorful little bagua hanging on mine 🙂
As for your neighbor’s door, j’adore!

  29. Good idea for a post…don’t know if I can cleverly sneak around the “lotissement” to get a good door photo, though.

  30. oh my gawd! I had to laugh outloud at brother matthew’s comment.

  31. It looks identical to mine. We live on opposite sides of the same building.
