Awareness

As I was in my element at the flea market yesterday, one thing I didn’t want to notice was the temperature (50 Fahrenheit,) nor how cold I was feeling. Wearing little more than a light jacket and penny loafers without socks, I knew once I got into my car to drive back home, I would feel the chill pierce through my bones.

Sure enough when I got into my car the frozen me came to surface! I cranked up the heat, I hadn’t allowed myself to feel cold beforehand. Isn’t life just like that; as soon as I let go I felt the feelings I had ignored.

We listen to what we want to hear, we focus on what is important to us, and our desires can be stronger than our better judgments.

I wonder what other feelings will come to surface when I give them a chance and let go….

photo: A 1905 postcard I found yesterday…I think she has something she wants to say.

Funny how we know these things about ourselves and yet “forget” them so often! Perhaps a balanced life is an awareness of the forgetting, and an awareness of the focus.

  6. Yes, and it doesn’t look like “angel wings” go with the thought… Sometimes you just have to let go!!

To ignore feelings.. at times is for self preservation.

  9. It’s interesting to ponder your words in this way: Our mind is so powerful, that we have the option to make a choice.
We can choose to suffer, or we can choose to shop, and then defrost in a warm car.
    Love your darling angel.

  10. “Please, please may I go with the other fairies..I know my wings are small, but I can keep up, and I promise to be home before moonrise..?”

  11. We pick and choose, and then wonder at our fate, as if we had no hand at all to play…
I love this image, this is how I invision you, dearest Corey!

  12. I know children pretty well…I am guessing her halo fell off and broke and she doesn’t want to tell her mother.

Dear Corey, please look after yourself the weather is getting cold, I guess that you were out there for several hours…wrap up warm! It’s so true that we listen to what we want to hear, sometimes we need to take in the advice of others or the inner judgement even if it may be difficult to hear.

It’s November, Corey. It’s time for socks 😉

  17. 1905? Really? Amazing. I love all postcards; especially old used ones. I started collecting them. I have a bunch I bought at a thrift store in Maine from 1920. I love imagining the lives of the people who wrote and received them.

  18. and here I am down here, sweltering – bushfires raging around me – wearing bare feet 🙂
Corey – I find that since I had my radiation treatment, the cold chills me to the bones – a cold like no other. wrap yourself up & stay warm! xo
ps- your posts constantly tug at my soul – why is that do you think?

it’s sometimes scary and overwhelming to think about what we might let loose if we are still and listen. but if we can remember that we can trust ourselves… that’s the lesson i’ve been learning lately.

  20. Your postcard was an inspiration to me.

  21. Beautiful postcard. Such a treasure. I do the same thing at times, not allow myself to feel the discomfort until it is not an issue!

  22. lovely thoughts from a lovely lady; I just love the postcard, so innocent and sweet!

  23. Yes! Its always cold here in Wisconsin! Last year I was in a Pageant and it was below zero. No one acted like they were cold. But I couldn’t hide it. Its been a mission of mine to figure out how in the world they hide it! LOL

The flea markets there must be wonderful. I’ve missed them terribly since we now live on the west coast versus the very satisfying ones we used to go to on the east coast.
Those old postcards are great. Such character!
