Standing amongst Roses

A young boy proudly stands amongst the roses holding his gloved hand on his hip. His song bird flaps her wings taking in the view. Two rose painted panels signed simply: "Frances 1901."

Focusing my camera to take the shot I heard, "Fear not the thorns! Find yourself amongst that which you love, let that song guide you." It is in these moments that I know there is a God.

  5. We climb the thorny stem to feel the soft touch of the petal. Thanks for the soft touch this morning!!

  6. We all know that despite the thorns, the rose has a perfume that makes it worth the risk of being scratched. So it is with life, the little bird is wise.

  7. Those reminders are always so welcome, aren’t they?

    That young boy,
    Holding the Bok Choy,
Looks an awful lot to me
    Like the David of Troy
    Dressed as a boytoy…
    Even though surrounded by roses,
    And wearing closes,
    If he should proposes,
    I wouldn’t say noses.

Love what you heard in your moment of deeper truth…

  14. The cock of his hip and his hand placed there on it make me think that this is not an uncommon situation for him. Reminds me of what it must have been like in those first days when all the creatures (but one) walked together.

  19. With faith we need not fear the prick of the thorn, for with grace we are bestowed a pair of protective garden gloves which hold us up through a bouquet of friendships at out time of need.

  21. I like the photo and your thoughts. Interesting how the two came together.
To the stars through the thorns. “Ad astra per aspera.”

  22. It is unseasonably warm here. Yes it snowed last week and is 80 f this week. weird. But that said. I was able to have the deepest most romantic evening of emotional bliss. Wattering the 32 year old rose bush, that has a trunk like a tree.. sitting under the moon light and proclaiming my love for this land I get to live on. In this hidden place. The moon, the rose bush and me. YEs!

Out in the moon light I cast my eyes on the rose brushes, frozen it glistened in the night. The boy watches, a song comes to mind…it’s time for poetry.

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.” (not my own words…)
Do not tarry… keep following your path … forget sharp stones, keep looking to the gem (j’aime)… Keep aiming at your “rose-butt” even when it’s on a bed of thorns!
You’re the sweetest rose in my bush life!

  35. I know, Corey, it’s like God is whispering words of guidance to us!
