Heart Song

A woman wrote me saying her heart was heavy. She didn't know who to turn to. She asked if I would listen. Have you ever wanted to fill someone's heart with love? The heart is a lonely hunter as it seeks to belong, to be shared.

The tarnish on a silver cup gives it texture and depth. Wanting it to be perfect, we often try to make it shine without flaw. Whether tarnished or highly polished, a cup (like our heart,) can be filled to nourish our soul even if the drink has touches of sorrow and a twist of the unexpected.

Can you hear the song that comes from listening? I believe it sings with the beating of the heart.

The photos are from little things gathered around my home.

    take good notes…………..
My heart is beating with so much love and today I share it with my handsome guy
    Our 13th wedding anniversary
    today.
Long live our love and this magic of our life.
    Love you

I listened to a woman of 84 today. We talked and laughed about her childhood. For the first time in months she did not mention the symptoms of her illness…..I saw the girl in her again.

Listening is most definitely an art. And so is letting your silver get tarnished (I need to tell my mom this) ๐Ÿ˜‰ Great pictures, and a wonderful reminder to just let our hearts speak to one another every now and again.

  5. Ah Corey, you’ve done it once again. I LOVE the analogy of the tarnish on the silver. As humans we so often long for and try to produce perfection — and in that trying we overlook the natural beauty, charm and flaws that make us and everyone else whole.

  6. OHHHHH ! the first picture with the italian ex-voto , how much yes how much to I care for !!
ps:maybe I met your belle mere on the market saturday or maybe have we spoke to each other …

  7. As we get older if there’s no tarnish on the hide, we haven’t lived very much. I brought the bell from the boat home yesterday to polish. I discovered it’s just like me, some tarnish won’t come off.

  8. thank you for this post. i think i ma one of those people who sometimes scribs too hard trying to remove all of that tarnish. it’s good to be reminded that tarnish can be beautiful.

  9. Isn’t the tarnish on silver a little like the laughter lines on a woman’s face?
It adds character and warmth and shows that it is well loved.
I am learning, with each passing year, that perfection doesn’t mean pristine. Oft times there is joy to be found in a wrinkle, a tarnished silver cup, even pathos holds appeal. There is joy in all things, we just have to remember to look for it.

  10. Absolutely. A little tarnish adds character and shows experience. Great thoughts to start my day ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. The heart is a lonely hunter–I love that quote.

  14. Dear Corey Full of Light ๐Ÿ™‚ Once more I so resonate with your post. There is nothing like a singing heart, full of the lightness of having been heard, witnessed and shared. Also, tomorrow my heart will celebrate the 5th anniversary of its singing in tune with its soul partner, all flaws and blemishes embraced.

  15. I have heard the song that comes from listening. It is a bird sitting at my window sill, a small soul, long since gone, come back to tell me, “everything is ok, you are not alone”.

Such a profound truth in what you say. It’s the things appearing negative that make the sweetness in life taste all the sweeter still.
