Standing in the Light

         Chair_waiting_to_go_in_2

The chair stood in the hallway. Waiting.

He was invited.

Nevertheless he felt alone, timid, and the other chairs seemed elegant compared to his straight lines, and plain wooden seat.

He stood against the wall listening to the chatter coming from inside….sounds he longed for…soft happiness.

The front door opened, a rush of warm sunlight filled the hallway. Illuminating the checkered floor. He felt the sun rays. He was reassured.

Peeking around the corner, he saw the light marking his place amongst the feast.

He knew he was no longer alone.

  8. I can sit and listen to your stories all day, such talent that a simple hotel photo and a wooden chair can tell the most engrossing of stories. Happy Easter my friend.x

  19. You have a remarkable gift of taking gorgeous photos and accompanying them with beautiful writing. Thank you! Happy Easter to you and your family Corey.

  20. I love that chair. Happy Easter.

  21. That is one lucky chair. It has the best seat in the house, no pun intended. From it’s place it can see everyone who comes and goes, and can also peek into other spaces. The floor is great, too.

  22. I think I’ve been that chair before. How many of us have felt that way?

  23. I know I have said this to you before…but..YOU have such a way with words and images! Oh my..you can take an inanimate object and breathe an incredible life into it! I “feeeel” this chair’s anguish! And his subsequent feeling of then belonging! (does that make sense?..i am not very eloquent..ha)

  24. That chair is so unusual without anything to fill the back–love the b/w floor tiles. I guess this means you’re home safe a sound. 🙂
    Happy Easter!

  25. Lyrical and lovely Corey. Happy Easter!!!

  27. Well that’s what I call a great post.
    **Happy Easter**

  28. What a lovely shot and a lovely story to go with it! Happy Easter Corey!!!

  29. …and because he was plain, and had not depended upon his looks to ease his way through life, he had developed character, and the softer chairs envied him.

  30. Love this! The photo is stunning and I love the writing so much. Once, I thought I’d like to write an entire novel around a chair…it’s life (really the changing the lives around it). Yes, I love this post very much!

  31. This is a truly lovely post Corey.
    Wishing you happiness this Easter.

  32. Corey,
This post reminded me of one of Neil Diamond’s old songs…
    I am I said.
    To no one there.
And no one cared, at all.
    Not even the chair.
WE, however, care 🙂 And so did the chair!
