Lace and Knots

If a strand of thread does not have a knot at the end, the lace will unravel.

Seeing the good in everything is not always easy for me. When I need to learn something the lessons come steadily. Is it like this for you too?

Vintage cotton lace, on a double strand. An uneven pattern gives way to an unique style. Allowing freedom in creativity…where thoughts go beyond the known pattern.

Flowers stand, bloom, and roots are not seen.

  1. Each occurence in our life
    is a life lesson……..
we are all here on a test run for even greater eternities is how I believe…………
I hope my track record is amazing before the eyes of God.
    Blessings

  2. I think I learn my lessons slowly and yes I sometimes find it difficult to see the good.

  3. Your post resonates with me right now Corey.
We look at the lace and it appears perfect. One day we see a tiny thread, and although we know better, we play with it, eventually it becomes longer, and the lace becomes smaller. We feel the loss, but we cannot stop playing with the thread. I see the flowers, but it is the roots that I fear.

  4. du fil et de belles matières pour tout décor !

  5. These pictures of the lace are beautiful. I love vintage lace and ribbons – they take my spirit back to another time. I would hope that our lives are filled with lessons and that we if we live intentionally we’ll learn from each of them.

  6. Ah, Corey, I’m starting to embroider again; there is a lot more in this post for me than you could know!

  7. Sometimes the beauty in life does seem to unravel but I believe if we are patient and look closely more beauty fills that space.

  8. Beautiful photos Corey! Much like life, isn’t it… we create unique patterns, knot them with love and soak up the lessons… only to continue on with a new thread…

  9. I have learned that if you pray for patience…God may develop it by letting you experience trials…rather than handing it to you on a silver platter. Hard lessons soak in deeper I suppose. And you looked at lace and saw what I would have missed! I had better open my contrary little eyes!

  10. Ton blog est superbe, bravo !

  11. I’ve had your words in my mind all day. When I read them this morning they hit something in me. They hit knots and they hit loose threads.
What is most difficult for me is to know when to make the knot and when to let one or more knots go. Sometimes you even have to unravel….

Life is designed for both, knots and straight runs of thread. You have such a unique way of pondering deep avenues of thought. I love it!!

  13. Beautiful lace, I think your photos make them even more lovely. Seeing the beauty through your lens is a lesson to be learned with life. Lessons hit me like a brick when something is to be taught, it is a skill to take them in steadily but surely.

  14. some days I definitely need to remind myself to just tie a knot and hang on!

  15. Sometimes it is in the waiting that we make the greatest discoveries and the most beautiful comes from the individual and the unique. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Time allows us to see the beauty in all things no matter how ugly they may present themselves to us in the beginning they defy us to see their beauty, but, when we do, how they unbalance us with their magnificence!

  16. At the moment much of my life is like lace with no knots. But….there is a part of it with strong knots, everlasting.

  17. from the positivity of your blog, i’d think that seeing the good came quite easily for you!
ah, there is always something beautiful to look at here! 🙂

  18. Corey, I tend to see the good a bit too much, perhaps. I’ve tried to develop a more realistic outlook over the past few years. I think as people, we all balance each other out.
    I loved your post today.

  19. I like knowing there are “good” knots that keep things from unraveling. Your posts are always so thought provoking!

  20. Sometimes we overlook the importance of the knot….big mistake
Sometimes lessons have to come steadily…otherwise…in our busy lives it can be overliiked…sometimes we have to first HEAR

  21. Yes, when I need to learn the lessons present themselves as well. Thank goodness for that. Beautiful post & metaphor. Much peace and love, JP

When I was a little girl, my mother taught me how to start an embroidery piece without any knots… (She was a gorgeous embroiderer).
“Do not do knots”, she used to say, “forget them… just interlace or enlace your threads at the back of your piece and that will do: your pattern will keep steady”.
I used to find it very difficult…
In the same way I have endeavoured to inter-lace and en-lace all my life…
There were many knots done … and left, I’m afraid…
Don’t we need knots to appreciate loose threads though?

  23. You are a wonderful photographer!! I love visiting your blog!! It’s always filled with such beautiful things!! I have a wonderful new camera and have taken some great photographs. They are on my blog; hope you’ll visit.
    Take care.

  24. I like a little bit of unravelled lace, so I wondered what that said about me. Maybe it’s symbolic of loosening up? being more accepting? seeing the roots to remind me of whence we came?
    xoxo
