Tea in the Garden

Teaoutside

Today is a holiday in France. As it is a holiday, there are many antique markets happening around the area. I have set up tea for you in the garden. I’ll be back shortly, with what I have found, and to bring you a bouquet of, Lily of the Valley. It is a French tradition, (on the first of May,) to give those you care for, a bouquet Lily of the Valley, as a wish for happiness.

Lucookies

Two LU butter cookies. One for you and one for me. LU is a classic French cookie. Usually, when eating a LU, the French bite the corners of the cookie off first. They have a proper way of doing everything, you know.

Oh no! It is a dead giveaway who ate part of that cookie isn’t it? How impolite of me! I should have offered you a LU cookie first. See what being in a rush does to me!

To make-up I’ll buy an armful of Lily of the Valley for you!!

Refelectionsintheteapot

A pot of tea, nice and hot, sits reflecting the morning for you. I’ll be back soon. See you later! By the way do you see the brightly colored thing under the teapot? Do you know what it is? Do you know how it is made? I’ll tell you about that later……..

ps Yann, Chelsea and Sacha..shhhhhhhhhhhhh!

As I enlarged the photo to see the “mat” better, I got your reflection right in the middle of the tea pot before me… I like this good morning view -or “good morning you”!!!
Thank you for this nice invitation of yours!
Now as I’m first at the table, I think I’m going to break the French etiquette (just to show that the French can be VERY unpolite!):
Could I have a cup of COFFEE, please?
PS Is your “mat” crocheted? (I’m not an expert, I’m afraid)

  2. It looks crocheted.
    It looks cozy.
    There is a teapot.
    My guess is…
    A tea cozy!
Can’t wait to see the treasures you unearth today.
It is May – the contest on my blog begins – be sure to visit and leave a comment!

  3. My guess – a rug, crocheted by your mother from your old childhood dresses, made to reflect the colours in your mother’s garden……..
It is a holiday here in Norway also, Labour’s Day. We plant to garden and to take Marta and two small cousins hiking.

  4. Rush back Corey! I can’t wait to see what you bring home with you!

  5. Happy Labor Day to you as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait for the Lily of the Valleys–I must’ve sensed you wrote about that b/c that’s the scent of lotion I used this morning!

  6. Happy May Day Corey!

  7. Shannon

I’ve seen LU cookies in the supermarket…I think.
I can’t wait to see what you bring back.
Being the American I am, I’ll eat the other half of that cookie while you’re gone…without nibbling the edges first. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I hope Yann doesn’t mind a rude American staying at his house ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Happy May Day Corey.
I’d love a cup of tea, thank you..!
And lilies of the valley, how pretty they smell..xx
I cannot guess what is beneath your teapot, but it looks to be crocheted…?

  9. Merci for the tea and cookies. I will hand you a bouquet of violets in exchange. Happy May Day.

  10. Lucky you…another flea market!!! And I love LU cookies…all my favorite indulgences…Corey you are sooo bad for me!!!!!

  11. Hey, wait for me — I don’t want to sit in the garden (as lovely as it is) and wait while you go shopping!! No, no, no girl — I’ll help you make the tea when WE get back from shopping!

  12. Oh Corey! I have been away to long! So much to catch up on!
I want to go with you!

  13. Have a wonderful day, Corey! Thank you for the tea and cookies! Is that a crocheted recycled bag mat?

  14. Oooo thanks Corey! I’m afraid I’m just like Shannon only I took both cookies ๐Ÿ™‚
I think it looks like an afghan but that would be too easy…is it made with plastic bread bags? No, they don’t put bread in bags over there…

  15. Thank you for the tea party. Are we in your back yard ? It wont be easy for me to eat my biscuit properly. Does Yann?
I bet you’ll find treasure galore today.
Is that a crocheted doily under your teapot? Happy May Day to you!

  16. Thank you for the lovely May Day tea party. No one has ever done this for me before and I feel honored to be your guest.
What a lovely tradition to give those you care about a bouquet of lily of the valley. Here– I do hope that you’ll accept my virtual bouquet!!

  17. Hee hee… thank you, Corey! Have a wonderful holiday today and I’ll be waiting for you…

  18. Elizabeth Meredith

What a very nice way to start the day! Thank you, Corey.
My guess is it’s a knitted tea cozy, although the teapot has a thermal look to it…

  19. I would love some tea, thanks Corey!!! Pass the LU’s too honey bun! Love the set up you have here, and Lily of The Valley is always, always welcome. They are so delicate and fragrant!!!!

  20. what a lovely tea party. yum, the lu is delicious. hurry, hurry bring the flowers.

  21. Happy holiday, Corey! I hope you are having a fabulous time strolling through the markets, a bouquet of lily of the valley in hand. As for the mysterious thing under the tea pot…is it a crocheted teapot cover? I was going to say a crocheted tablecloth but then, you wouldn’t make it so easy, would you?? ;p

  22. MAY DAY BLESSINGS TO YOU DEAR HEART! Happy hunting and we can’t wait to see what you found! (and in regards to bees – Michael is also deathly allergic, which is why I had them removed before he came home!)

  23. Corey, You’re so clever! The mystery doily is interesting, but tell me…who are the people reflected in the tea pot’s cozy? I recognize French husband but the others…? Thanks again for all the time your put into your blog! Cheryl

  24. Happy first of May Corry. Sounds like you are starting it off right. I am off to make a pot of tea. xoxox Clarice

I’ll bring another packet of LU for us to have after the antique/brocante shopping. Oh,and will go harvest a bouquet of Lily of the Valley from the garden right now!

  26. I love tea, tea parties, biscuits, conversation, more tea, anything “tea” related. It’s a perfectly good excuse to sit back, relax and just enjoy. Aawww…..
Can’t wait to see the Lily of The Valley. Pop over to see what it means, unless you already know?, I’ve just posted about May.

  27. Thanks for the invitation to tea. I’m going to guess that the colorful cloth under the teapot is… um, a knitted dishcloth. Can you guess what I’ve been doing lately? LOL!
    Darla

  28. This is lovely. I can’t wait for you to get back!

  29. Why, thank you so much! I adore tea and a LU as well….I shall gladly join you in a shopping day but I am also so intrigued by the reflection of your garden…May we see more?
    Happy May Day!

  30. That looks like a pretty little crocheted table topper. Lovely. Have fun shopping Corey. I can smell the Lillys all the way out here. Hugs, Annie

  31. Or maybe it is a loosely crocheted mat draped over a basket to make a pretty liner. In any event, it is a very pretty double crochet pattern.

  32. Is it a table cloth crocheted from plastic bags?

  33. Many antique markets happening? what a dream come true for you! Thank you for the tea and biscuit (I love that there’s a proper way of doing things in France). What a beautiful thing to give bouquets of lilies ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy May day to you!
I believe the coloured mat is crocheted from recycled plastic bags ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. I went out and bought LU Petit Beure cookies.
    They cost $2.49
I tried to bite only the corners, but my American ways overcame me.
I munched down, front and center ๐Ÿ™
I guess I can never be really FRENCH…

  35. MMM, I love those cookies.

  36. Discovering your blog, I love it. Seems so perfect, photos, ambiance, your way of writing (forgive my poor english).
    Chance – bonheur

  37. I bought a packet of muguet today…the florists were the only shops open along the boulevard President Wilson in Antibes. They were beautiful and smelled so familiar as I buried my nose in the bunch. They were my grandmother’s favorite flowers. I wish she had been there at the end of my walk to receive them…but the friend I found instead hugged me and reminded me that love endures past separation.
    Meilleurs voeux!!

One of my happiest memories of France is May Day in Arles a few years ago. Unsuspecting, we stepped outside our hotel into the midst of a parade of joyous people, in native costume, all carrying lilies of the valley!! It was a perfect day!!
O– to be French in the Spring!!!
I hope you’ve had a wonderful celebration today!!

  39. I will happily enjoy your garden and the lovely cup of tea. Thank you my dear. Treasure hunt ’til your hearts content!
Wishing you happiness on this special day in May!

  40. Why thankyou Corey, for tea in the garden. One of my favourite past times.

  41. I discovered your blog from Miz Booshay’s blog…..ahhhh, this web of world-wide connections! She mentioned that you read Ree, and I am her friend Hyacinth. I am quite smitten with your blog – oui, oui! Our little town is a sister city to Montauban, France – ever been there? Long history with the Osage Indians of this area…..I see from your profile that you grew up Catholic – you might like might podcast! This week, we talk about how to be a Christian “IRL” in the face of the technology we love……All I know is – I LOVE your blog! Thanks! Cyndi

  42. Oh I do love a LU now and then, I would love a cup of tea with you…I see you in the teapot and what looks to be French Husband in the background…and under the teapot looks to be some kind of crocheted plastic. Bags? gum wrappers?
NOW, you cheeky thing…I bought a new magazine today…one of the items on the cover says “The Fascinating World of Creative Blogging”…and who to my surprise was it about? Flipping through I saw the pages of old books and thought “wow, those look like the ones Corey bought”…I was right!!!!
I hope commenters see this and go find the magazine!
    XOXO
