Love Potion

Note: A perfume company in France is creating a new fragrance called:

Potion d’ Amour (Love Potion.)

They are looking for five ingredients that most people would want in a love potion. If you could create your own "love potion," what would you add?

Eternal happiness… Moonlight dinners… Rose oil… Honey… a touch of vinegar…

  1. Hmm. That’s a tough one. There would have to be attraction, fun, contentment, scent of lavander and walks on a beach (scent of la mer).

“Yet mark’d I where the bolt of Cupid fell:
It fell upon a little western flower,
Before milk-white, now purple with love’s wound
    And maidens call it love-in-idleness.
Fetch me that flower; the herb I shew’d thee once:
The juice of it on sleeping eye-lids laid
Will make man or woman madly dote
Upon the next live creature that it sees.”
    Shakespeare’s Love Potion

  3. Di Overton

Sunshine, truffles, children’s laughter, peace and freshly mown grass.
    I sound like Miss World

  4. herhimnbryn

The scent of fresh bed linen.
    Sandalwood and ylang ylang.
    Newly cut grass.
    His skin.
A lemon picked from it’s tree.
Clever Corey, got me thinking AND planning!
Oh and ps, I have to add one more….the perfume of a good Scottish Island Malt whisky.

  5. Francoise

pour moi c’est : l’odeur de la terre mouillée après la pluie, sa peau, les roses du jardin et le rire des enfants…

  7. Marie-Noëlle

    – bubbles of surprise
    – petals of champagne
    – showers of sweet words
    – bunches of kisses (my recipe doesn’t say whether they’re French or else!)
    – cups of honeysuckle

  8. MyMelange

Lavander, rose, fig, lemon, cassis…maybe some rosemary or basil. And I am quite sure if you put these all together..it would smell absolutely awful. I won’t quit my day job to be a perfume maker!

  9. constance

    Kindness, respect, forgivness,
ability to savor, and wisdom are in my Love potion.
The presentation of the French potion is excellent.

  10. All I can think of is the old song “Love Potion #9”
    Anyone remember this?
I took my troubles down to Madame Rue
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She’s got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin’ little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine
    Darla – humming along

The scent of the wind after a good rain…for a cleansing affect. Cherry Almond extract…for my grandmother and a tie to my past. The scent of Peonies…just because they make me smile. The smell of a freshly bathed baby…because nothing smells sweeter or more pure. And finally freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, because they are the quintessential comfort food.

  15. Jasmine, roses, and someone mentioned honey. I like that.

  22. cruststation

    Beautiful vintage scrap paper bottle…

    I love Dawns list:
    tenderness
    kisses
    laughter
    appreciation
    thoughtfulness.
With a touch of bergamot, thank you.

  25. Brother Matthew and I are having a sing along. Hehehe.
I wonder if we learned that song from the same version. It was first done by the Searchers in the late 60’s I think.
    Darla – *waving to Matthew*.

  26. tongue in cheek

    I love these love potions!!
Maybe we should open up a shop?!
    PS
The funky thing under the teapot, was made for me, by my wonderful 88 year old friend. She knitted it with strips she cut from plastic bags. Talk about recycling!!

  27. Franca Bollo

    It just takes one: Pheromones.

    Hi Franca Bollo
Okay dear cousin, Miss Lover of Words I do not know….
(AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE LIKE ME:
A pheromone is a chemical that triggers an innate behavioural response in another member of the same species. There are alarm pheromones, food trail pheromones, sex pheromones, and many others that affect behavior or physiology. Their use among insects has been particularly well documented, although many vertebrates and plants also communicate using pheromones.)
Uh huh, so what triggers you? What pheromone gets you in the mood for love?
    C

  28. Veronica TM

  31. freefalling(Letitia)

Really Corey! – I’m starting to get tired from all this thinking stuff you make me do!
(You really do make me go places in my mind which I don’t frequent too often). Now I’m going to have to sit here and get lost in a daydream!!

  32. AnnieElf

Lemons. Linen. Sunlight. Now THAT is a good start.

  33. tommiea

I don’t know if it is good or bad, but after making it nearly half way through this deployment, I would say something entirely different than I would have seven months ago….but now I would add…light touches, a manly smell, a little laughter, much patience, and a little surprise

  34. Christina

the smell that rain makes when it hits dry earth, grass, lilies, lavender, sun dried linens.

  35. My love potion will be mixture of what Khalik Gibran is suggesting:
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

  36. I’ve worn Fendi for so long that I think everything should have a drop of sandalwood. I love the smell of my lemon geranium when I brush it walking by. The rosemary and basil in my herb pots make happy smells for me. The smell of the ocean on a warm sunny day makes me feel good. When we were in the Bahamas, the aroma of barbecue on the beach and the sound of all those beautiful voices singing were wonderful. Too many things to choose!

  37. Oh how nice! I would add;
    1. Cinnamon.
    2. Floury garlicky mashed potatoes.
    3. Bear hugs.
    4. Lily of the Valley.
    5. Large, heartfelt smiles.
    xo
