Bee Catcher

Beebabies

Well I’ll "BEE" darn this is a very hard crowd to sting! Marita guessed it within minutes, and many of you followed suit with the right answer. Marita said, "A French bee trap… Fill it up with some sweeten liquid and the bees will be attracted to it."

Sad but true. It is a trap for bees. I have never seen a bee trapped inside of one. Though many of you suggested using it for a lantern…now there is a good idea! Next time I see one I’m going to buy it, and use it as a lantern in the garden.

Then again there was a number of you who thought along the creative sweet side. Some of the responses called the "bee trap," a fairy trap, a dream catcher, an Evil spirit or bad witch catcher, or to use as a fish bowl, or as a vase to hang by one’s bedside. Clever, tender ideas, full of whimsical imagination. I like that sort of stuff, does it show?

Kas, said, "Little girls carry them, illuminated with fireflies (lightening bugs), across fields of lavender, late at night, on their annual journey to sleep beneath the summer stars."

Jolene added, "Well, the consensus seems to be a TRAP of some sort. If I had one – could I use it to capture a French Husband?"

Sure why not, as long as you don’t ask him to use it as a urinal like Shabby suggested!

Let me tell you "Milk," seemed to be the leader after bees, candle holder, and fairies. Okay, low on the list, but still after nearly 90 response it held its place as a breast shield, or as a breast pump, and as something to separate the cream from the whey.

Mari-Nancy pumped out a funny one with her answer, "For catching milk, one udder at a time.."

Now that was a cheeky answer, wasn’t it?!

Beekids

The winners are:

Marita, who was the first to say it was a bee trap. The next winner for the most original, (oh such a tough call… your answers were all brilliant…!!) goes to Kas. Who suggested that the bee traps were used as a lantern to hold fireflies!

Thank you for playing along. Your guesses and comments add enormously to Tongue in Cheek! XXX (and neither the "Bee traps," nor the "XXX" stand for Barbie’s Moonshine:))

I would never in a million years have guessed what it was.
I love these contests because you learn something totally new and original.
Like, who knew there covers for knife tips?

  4. I have a green one that is not antique that I use as a decoration on my screened porch; have not been lucky enough to find a vintage one although I know there are a few still around. I think the ones in the photo are wonderful.

  5. Congratulations to the winners!
Annnnnnd… Yeaaaaaa, I got honorable mention, for “Cheeky.”
Even though I had the wrong *part.* It should have been “For catching milk, one _teat_ at a time..” >,-)

  7. WOW! The French scrapbook pages are wonderful. The images are so beautiful. I love the cow and the white dog and the chubby baby faces!!! I am always cheered when I visit. Merci beaucoup!!!

  8. Congrats to the winners, I would never have guessed. Love the french vintage scrapbook, it’s lovely.

  9. I knew I did not win… but it sure was fun playing along!
    Congratulations to Marita and Kas!

  10. Oh well!
    Love those old scraps there!

  11. PLEASE send us any Bees you trap in that contraption.
Ours are dying like flies 🙁

  12. We bought some really ugly modern containers like your cute ones to catch wasps after being stung several times. They were mad to get to our food on the table outside. They do work, especially if you use the broth sold along with the containers but it isn’t very appetizing to see them trapped or floating in the liquid when you are trying to eat.

  13. Oh, so I was wrong but I am pleased to see that my suggestion is what you are going to use them for when you get some. I aim to please!

  14. I’ve just put in tons of plants in my backyard that just last month was a huge brown spot of dirt so I’m excited to see birds and yes, BEES !!!!
I remember as a child we’d round up a dozen or so glass jars and use them to trap bees as they would land on the clover in my grandmother’s yard. She had a flat, well actually slanted door that covered the opening to her cellar and we lined the jars up there and sat eating sunflower seeds. Now I feel kind of bad for all the bees we caused to die, but dang, as a kid it sure was a grand and daring adventure.
Oh my gosh, and I have to share this! I remember one of the neighborhood kids was named Phillip and he was this skinny little kid with baggy shorts. Well, he didn’t wear any undies and that day I got my very first glance at his “hangy downy stuff” ~ Oh how I’d forgotten all about that !!!! See Corey, you just never know where your posts are going to take your readers. Thanks for that happy little blast from my past !

  16. oh – I missed the contest! Although I don’t think I would have guessed correctly anyway…
    Love the vintage scrapbooks!

  17. I adore the vintage ‘postcards’.
    So pretty :o)
I especially like the picture of the little girl feeding the calf.
And I like the idea of filling the bee jar with fireflies.
    Perfect and charming!

  18. Ohh my gosh thank you for a good laugh this morning. I love Kas answer too.

  19. Winner? Oh glory! I’ve never been the winner before! Thank you Corey, what a sweet kiss on my cheek today!

  20. Wow! Who knew? I didn’t even hazard a guess but it would have been nowhere near the right answer! I hope they don’t still trap bees! Bees are so useful and very important!
    xo

  21. I’m glad to know that I was right. I loved all of the interesting answers.
I think that they would be pretty just sitting on a table or shelf.
    Have a great day!

  22. I would never have guessed it correctly. I’ve enjoyed so much reading the various guesses. Your blog is awesome! xoxo

  23. Kas’ firefly lantern is a brillient idea, I also liked the idea of a “fairy catcher”!
    Congratulations winners!

  24. Corey, I just found your blog thru Donna at The Decorated House & have just spent a few minutes looking thru old posts, checking out your French Husband, & strolling along with you on your flea market adventures. I’m a flea market/yardsale hunter myself & loved, loved seeing all the things that are available where you are. I have been to France a couple of times & wish I had more time then to do the flea market thing, but back then I wasn’t as much into it as I am now. I now own 2 French pieces, a beautiful mirrored bonnetierre & an old French cupboard & could really relate to your post about antiques calling out to you. I will be back to see more of your adventures & will definitely add your link to my blog too. How exciting for you to be living in France. I’d probably choose Italy if I were moving, but that’s me, LOL. France is certainly a beautiful place too.
Please come & see me if you get a chance!

  25. I would be sad to see the bees languishing in there until they die. We need them! But, I do hate how they can ruin a meal alfresco! Still couldn’t use it though… I like the other sweet uses too.

  26. What a fun post that was, Corey! What a creative lot we all are with those answers! I’d love to actually see someone catch a French husband with one! I caught one (a “French” husband… sort of), though not in a bottle, and he can’t speak French! But Jacques Pepin spotted my French name on my nametag at a trade show once which made me blush! heehee =)

  27. I think I’ve officially made it 90 comments. I didn’t cheat, promise. lol
My mum gave me one so I knew what it was.
That was fun and clever but not surprising as you always entertain us with your imagination and creativity.
    xo

  28. oh, they are wonderful little bee catchers….I caught a bee on a flower in my post today 🙂

  29. Oh my, a bee catcher. I never would’ve guessed…

  30. patpaulk

I knew it had something to do with honey. You can catc h me in your bee trap anytime.

  31. Interesting… I was in a crafts store the other day, and they were pushing scrap books as an American idea, like it was a new “tendance” in France.
It is fascinating how much you learn about a culture from all of these antique and flea market finds.
You probably don’t think of yourself as a teacher, but you are doing a pretty good job of it anyway.

  32. Sadly, I have seen a few bees in the one I used to have.
Now for other news…I am probably way behind the times…but finally went shopping for some new art supplies and saw this great magazine (it was 14.95!!!eek!) with YOU in it!! Fabulous article, gorgeous pictures.(none of your cute face, however!!)I bought it just because of that! I can almost HEAR my European Mother-in-Law fainting at the thought of spending 14.95 for a magazine, but she lives there, and I live in the states, so it will have to remain our little secret!
well, now you are famous.:)The article was just as great as your blog…French husband may have to live with the fact that his American wife is a celebrity!:)

  33. Jolene’s is hilarious!

  34. Poor little bees……….I thought the French were much more considerate!

  35. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next one… what fun!
    see you, g xo

  36. cassa cola

Thank’s for your visit Corey, I love your blog ! Have a nice day and see you soon !

  37. Marie-Noëlle

As a matter of fact, just heard that “Bee Movie” was presented at Cannes today – with sensational advertising… for swarming mob…

  38. That was really fun Corey!

  39. Very nice picture, good and consistent 🙂
