The Party in Marseille

Oversizedpots

Marseille has a reputation of exaggerating. Look at these oversized pots! But last night it really went to town and out did itself. The party was fabulous. Of course I spent most my time walking around tasting the delicacies it had to offer and snapping photos. A few people asked me if I was a *journalist. After a split second of thinking to tell the truth, I decided to be Marseillaise.

French husband and I had a rendez-vous to meet on top of the parking lot before the party. I hid because he was late… French husband eventually found me.

Fruitsoftheparty

The Party took place in an abandon building in the center of Marseille. The building is going to be transformed into a luxury hotel. (Tomorrow I will post photos of it.)Doesn’t it look like a set from Romeo and Juliette?

*Note: I squatted down, (lady like mind you,) by the side of the table to take this photo. That is when someone asked me if I was a journalist. At that point I couldn’t say, "No, I just like taking photos." Nor could I say, "I am an American tourist."

I did look for Mr. Handsome. Though I never saw him last night. I did notice that the men’s style this year is black pin strip sleek suits. With black pointy shoes, and high collared dress shirts worn without a tie. The dress shirts are also left unbuttoned by two buttons. Not one button, not three buttons but just two buttons. That is the ultimate detail I noticed. Those two buttons! Sexy!

But not as sexy as French husband! Who wore a grey suit, with a blue and white stripped shirt and with one button unbutton.

The party in Marseille was at such a romantic spot, French husband and I stood together and witnessed l’heure bleu twilight.

Evening

There were nearly two thousand people at the party. The abandon building is bigger than a castle so it didn’t seem crowded. Mingling in French is harder than mingling in English, both I find hard to do. Though that has never stopped me from going to a party. The details are what I am attracted to…how it is set up, the catering, the decor, the music, how the people are dressed….like those two buttons unbutton…and the way the mood changes as the night unfolds.

more to come tomorrow.

  1. I love that shot with you ‘peeking’ out behind the planter! Fine legs dear, and sexy shoes :o)
Thank you for taking us along to your oh so French and glamorous par-tay!
“Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.”

  2. That is an elegant venue! I hope you post a picture of your beautiful self!

  3. oh wow! what a set up – looks like one amazing event! sounds fabulous…your man looks very handsome in his attire as do all men in suits!

  4. Corey – thanks for inviting us to the party! However did you spend the whole evening in those shoes?? I would have had to take them off after 10 minutes. But then, perhaps I would have set a new fashion trend of bare feet!

    Hi Penny,
Oh believe you me, when I got home, no no no, actually when I got in the car, I kicked the shoes off and rubbed my toes for a very very long time.

  5. Wow! How Grand!
What a sexy leg you have my dear! *giggle* I love those shoes!!
I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s set of photo’s of the night.

  6. french dress codes, one button, two, mabey three or non at all, buttoned or unbuttoned, plane naked? delicate issue. while reflecting on this…i love
the hugh pots with olive trees even if they are overdone 😉

  7. Nice way to spend an evening. What an attractive place. You crack me up with your humor.

  8. All-in-all, my comment is “Not too shabby”. I’ll pass on the fashion comments to my American doctor husband…he will say “That’s nice” and continue to dress in his preppie style. And I’ll still think he’s wonderful!
Great post and I’ll be ready to read more!

  9. I know a good band that could get that crowd a dancing 🙂

  10. Love, love, love those pointy shoes on the men.
Oh gosh, there is nothing like a man in a suit.
    *sigh*

  11. I love the photo of your little leg sticking out behind the pot. I wish I the legs to wear those skirts and shoes. The husband is beautiful, as always. He can always fall back on a modelling career, non? A charmed life, it looks to be!

    Hello Julie
…I just need to say that the photo is very flattering to my short stumps. When I saw this photo (that Frenchhusband took,) I kissed him a million times over. I often have said the first thing I am going to do when I see God is ask, WHY I DIDN’T GET SEXY LONG LEGS!!

  12. Beautiful account of the party. Cool beans!

  13. You are a wonderful “date” for a party…I too am not much on mingling…though I am learning! With you pointing out such wonderful details, the evening (and your post) just flew by too quickly!
BTW, I think the photo on yesterday’s post of your French husband’s hand, wedding band and pocket of the dress pants is so sexy! Don’t we just love to have them dress up? (the photo of your leg peeking out from behind the large flower pot is a riot…!!!) you really should do a calendar of some kind….maybe one of those little daily ones…

  14. These are marvelous photos, Corey. Unlike you, I don’t really flock to the social gatherings; mingling in any language is not my thing. My camera is my defense mechanism and allows me to get through the few parties I attend. I love the angles you’ve used (especially the Romeo and Juliet pic) and the one of your leg giving away your hiding place. But, overall, I’d have to say any photo of French Husband would be my favorite 😉 Can’t wait to see more.

  15. Looks like it was quite a party. With that many people mingling should be easy, you just get lost in the crowd.
    Darla

  16. “I hid because he was late”. You are an artist of love Corey and really know how to tie Yann to your heart, with new loving and creative knots every day 🙂

  17. I adore your eye for detail…both in photo and description. Mingling in a large crowd can be quite disconcerting…..do I just go up and stand listening to a conversation? Do I walk, drink in hand, nodding and smiling? Do I sit and just watch the event unfold? I have never been to such a large party as this – I like the idea of taking camera around to capture things some may have just never even noticed.(like suits and shoes) I love that idea of that kind of mingling.
Oh and it has to be said that the photo of French Husband above looks like something from French Vogue.
You should do a book of photos called “Observations”.
    XOXO
    Love,
    Lisa

  18. ooo la la we were there with you (almost)!

  19. Corey,
The building is so amazing. And the pictures! Can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures. It looks like you had a wonderful time!

  20. A very journalistic way of reporting the party…believe me, I am not exagerating, I’m not from Marseille!

  21. oh thank you for taking us with you to the party.

  22. Love it! Every part of it right down to you hiding and the two button details.
the colorful lighting of your photo in the building is so beautiful it could make a grown girl cry!

  23. It looks like an amazing party and I just love you behind the oversized pot, how adorable! Beautiful photo of French Husband, he looks like a painting. I love the details at parties too, though non I have been to is so grand.

  24. Oh my and ooh la la. What a posh party Corey! My noodle head of a brain can’t even begin to process two thousand people at a party. Whoa Nellie!
Hey now! Who is the mystery photographer who took the photo of Corey’s lovely leg? There seem to be two journalists in your family. 😉
Eagerly awaiting the next installment du jour.

  25. Corey! you have such a way to tell the story! I love it! you are a writer, I know, it has to be! if not…just start writting a book! and your pictures!
I love the leg showing out the big pot, it is so hilarious!
And the french husband IS very handsome! I have one too….. 😉

  26. What great colors. That is going to be a fabulous hotel.

  29. Shannon

French Husband looks like he’s in some sort of cologne ad. Very nice!
Gorgeous photos. Why don’t you go professional?

  30. “Féerique” as they would say over there.
    Nice gams!!!!!!
    xoxo

  31. Going to a big party like this, the best part is people watching..!
When I saw the photo I thought you were practicing the Hokey Pokey..
    😉
    Good legs girl..!!

  32. One glass has consierably less wine in it than the other. Whose was whose? *wink*
I’m very shy, so mingling is torture for me. (I know, I know….how can someone who yaks on and on be shy?! It’s true, though…hee)

  41. Ellen Cassilly

Thanks for taking us to the party! Loved all the legs and shoes – yours and the french men’s.
We are back in the US and sort of on track. I’m sending you a small package tomorrow. Love and hugs.

  42. Wow! (What else can I say?)

  43. Lovely planters Corey! I wonder how many gallons of water it takes to water those?????

  44. Oh! Dear Corey, you seduce us with your pictures and your writing! 🙂
it sounded a magical place, how blessed are you both!

  45. como bonito!! Your legs, your husband, the pictures!!

  46. Marie-Noëlle

I like all the various patches of colour you snapped up in that black trendy background: fruit, lights, Frenchhusband’s shirt…
NOW let’s imagine someone appearing at the top of the stairs behind you (while showing your leg) !?! !?! !?!

  47. Corey (Modern day Juliet),
Your photo’s are amazing! How very glamourous. And those suits European men definately know how to dress. l just love that two button thing, it so sexy.

  48. Corey,
you are a worldclass photo journalist and writer. Nothing less, and much more.
Your French husband is a very clever guy, having captured someone like you. And he knows it. 😉

  49. It all seems so glamourous

  50. Loved going to the party with you, albeit virtually. C’est magnifique!

  51. WOW WOW WOW!
    More pictures please.
Always respond, YES when they ask are you a journalist?
YOu can say freelance if they ask more.
    YOu ARE anyway Ms. Bloggeur!

  52. What divine photos! Makes me want to pack my bags and head for Marseille. We stayed at Hotel Dieu in Paris in 2005 and as you might already know, it still IS a hospital. It has rooms for the lucky few travellers who book ahead.

  53. I’m speechless. There are no words to describe this post, except, perhaps… WOW!

  54. I love how you notice details such as the two button thing. I love learning about how to set up parties and stuff. I always arrange the food and napkins at any parties we have at my house. I would love to be some sort of planner when I am older. Whether I plan weddings, parties, banquets, etc… I really don’t care I just love doing it!

  55. Look at that leg! Well, no wonder French Husband went out looking for you! Grandes jambes!

  56. Such stunning photographs! I just love the photos and your stories!

  57. Catching up on your blog. I’ve been away for three weeks and I’ve missed your posts.
Loved the limoges guessing game. That was tough.
    These photos are beautiful.
I’m with you at a fête. I also admire all the detail of the set-up, the food, the mood, etc. Details. It’s my thing too.

  58. Nice legs, lady!
    🙂

  59. As everyone has said, great legs, great party, great reportage!
