The Language of Flowers

Pinkpetalzinnia

The language of flowers, do you hear their message? Strong in gentleness, faithful in their offering of beauty. Giving without asking why or how. Flowers speak a language without words, yet the message is deeply rooted in us.

Funnytopzinna

This Zinnia celebrates its uniqueness by wearing a crown of striking gold. It doesn't seem to mind that it is one of a kind. It doesn't seem out of place amongst the other flowers in the garden. Instead, it seems to echo the universal truth by claiming: Be boldly yourself.

Standalonezinna

Not your average wallflower…a single, beautiful, red-head.

He loves me, but he loves me not. She loves me, but she loves me not. One mustn't pluck the petals in such a way. The tender soul needs to be nurtured, down to the root and up along the stem of consciousness, petal by petal, hand in hand, heart to heart. You are loved, you are loved, you are loved…

Bunchofzinnia

Evening falls, the sky grows dark, the moon rises, and stars bloom like flowers up above. Life changes constantly yet remain the same. Down below, in the silence, in the stillness, in the darkness, the garden grows unafraid.

Photos: Zinnias is growing in my mother's garden by my father's barn.

I wish I had a few zennias in my garden…
Let me compose a little bunch for you…
First I’m going to my herb garden where I can pick sweet marjoram and mint… now to the front of the house… where I can pick some pansies from my flower boxes…
I am now walking over to my neighbour’s house. They left me their key while away… how lucky… I can take a few leaves from their big oak-tree…
Now walking further on and reaching the little lane by the railway… where I can find some fern….
Here is my home-made bunch for you !

  2. Such prettiness! 🙂

    Loved and unafraid.
    Yes.
He whispers it to us, and the flowers join Him.
“Fear not. I have always loved you. And always will.”
    Beautiful, Corey.

Good advice gleaned from the garden. Thanks for reminding me. Beautiful photos.

  14. I have always loved the quote from the Bible which says something like, “Consider the lilies of the field, they toil not, neither do they spin.” We should all be more like flowers… effortlessly reflecting our inherent true beauty!

    Hi Corey-
Enjoy your visit home. I love the planters! This summer I finally realized weeding and making pots is too many jobs for a mother, wife and community activist, sooooo, I think container gardening will do the trick! So good to get your mom’s container ideas this year. I remember last year’s galvanized cans – inspiration!

Shug: More than anything God love admiration.
Celie: You saying God is vain?
Shug: No, not vain, just wanting to share a good thing. I think it pisses God off when you walk by the colour purple in a field and don’t notice it.
Celie: You saying it just wanna be loved like it say in the bible?
Shug: Yeah, Celie. Everything wanna be loved. Us sing and dance, and holla just wanting to be loved. Look at them trees. Notice how the trees do everything people do to get attention… except walk?
    [they laugh]
Shug: Oh, yeah, this field feels like singing!
the color purple comes to my mind:) your mamas garden ahhhh! enjoy your time with family! xo

  34. carolyn

Your mother’s garden is truly lovely.

  35. Zinnias are Bossy’s favorite flowers! Especially cut! In vases, spread throughout the breezy seashore house with whitewashed walls and a scattering of woven rugs. OK, now Bossy has gone too far.

  36. la vie en rose

gorgeous. reminds me so much of something mary oliver might write and she is my favorite poet.

  37. Pauline Clarke

there is as much beauty in your words and photos and your soul as there is in your mother’s garden…

  38. snowsparkle

“… you are loved, you are loved, you are loved.” i will from henceforth pick petals with this mantra instead of the cruel old “loves, loves not”
leave it to corey to transform our worlds in simple yet powerful ways.
    thank you and big hugs,
    snowsparkle
