Summer Fun

I grew up on a farm. Where cows, cousins and rice ruled the day. Summertime meant watermelon, swimming in the ditch, and riding motorcycles in the fields. We played for hours outside, and would only come in when my Mom hollered for us to come and eat.

It felt like ole times when I saw the shoes and the bits of clothing strewed on the patio. Automatically, I hollered, "Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacha!?!" The roles had been changed, but my instinct was the same.

Can you see them out in the field, beyond the sheep, on the bank of the ditch?

I zoomed in with my camera and caught this…Summertime memories playing over and over again.

  5. You captured simple summer pleasures with your pictures! I grew up in a tiny farming community and our summers were spent swimming in the river and exploring the marshes (Tom Sawyering, we called it) and woods. Luckily we had church bells, who called us home for meals (at 11 am and at 6pm). Once we got lost, following the railway tracks in the wrong direction, having to turn back in the dark. 😉

One of the rare occasions when it’s good that history repeats itself!

  7. How sweet. I never had any free play time like that nor did I ever really know my cousins, so this seems like a pleasant dream to me. Must be fun to watch them go.

  8. hot fun in the summertime…oh how they used to have to wrestle me in at night…i crept out early in the morning with a ketchup/mayo sandwich…didn’t stop till they made me…no wonder i was skinny then…you made me smile this morning…blessings, rebecca

  9. There is a special joy in watching our children experience some of the same things we experienced in our childhood isn’t there?
Another bead in the chain of family history.

Lucky child who is still summoned with a holler :o)

  25. I am so envious. It still keeps raining her in the UK. Beam Me Up Scottie.

  26. Oh the joys of summer! They go by to fast. Where are the girls cousin? If I listen really hard I can hear my cousins and I playing in the creek behind our house and all laughs, jokes and dares. What a great time. Thanks for the flash back.
p.s. tried using your potty training trick. Still trying to figure out Teresa’s answers. Which were he’s a boy, she’s my friend and why; all answers given to me with her hands on her hips and a sly grin. The only thing I could do was grab her up and kiss her. She looked so adorable trying to be serious and not give herself away. I think we are half way there. see ya!

  27. So beautiful Corey! the boys laughing, the picture, the way you capture things. I guess one of the aspects of your blog that I love is that here you can “breath” love.
I just gave you a thinking award on my blog (sorry, is in spanish, I will translate it later for you)

  28. The essence of summer!

  29. You captured a perfect summer day for Sacha! Love your descriptions of summer life on your parents’ farm.

  30. Hot fun in the summertime!!!
    ahhhhhh

  31. Some of my fondest summer memories are of learning to swim in the river with all my cousins.
Sasha will remember these summers all his life…and the bond he is forging with these boys will always be strong through their shared memories.

  32. I love this post Corey, what an idyllic childhood you had. & how fun to relive it with your son. I love that you were able to zoom in and catch the boys in all their exuberance.
And selfishly I love it so much because it brought back cherished memories of summers of my own youth. Although there weren’t any summer watering holes, there were trips to the beach, climbing in the canyons, roller skates, riding bikes and playing tag into the twilight. Thank you for bringing a smile! 🙂

  33. Timeless moments, Corey.

  34. Fun how all the boy cousins are born a year apart! My girl cousins and I were all born the same year. It made for lots of fun growing up (especially for me as I have no sisters).

  35. Such sweet summer time memories, captured.

  36. Looks like fun!

  37. memories are golden, never fading away…those happy days of the summers in willow!!

  38. What a great photo of the boys, having a good old fashioned summer day. No bills to pay, no worries. All kids deserve to be this free.

    Great capture!

Funny but you can make a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of socks look artsy….

  40. Ah, dear Corey, seeing Sacha and his cousins reminds me of the time when my younger brother was a boy, I, a girl and we would leave home early in the morning with big fat teacakes, sandwiches and a Mason jar of water. We would spend the day on the creek that ran through our pasture and play until we dropped. It was so hard to have to come back home and clean up for supper. James and I practically lived on that creek in the summers. So many, many summers ago.

  41. Of all your many posting moods I love the trips home postings most and dearest. What amazing pictures you have been sharing – each post builds like a symphony to find its place in the overall group. But of course it was the boys/most highly treasured sons that brought the happy tears and sent my fingers to this keyboard.
So many long distance hugs you are so beautiful for sharing this with all of us.

  42. It is in these moments, these moments seemingly caught mid air that make the memories last forever.
    XOXOXO

  43. Summertime – and the living is easy …..Lovely summery post Corey

  44. These photos capture the spirit of summer vacation so perfectly…the boys of summer!

  45. Great that Sacha has so many cousins of a similar age to share his summers with and that your childhood home is still there for them. I love that sense of continuity.

  46. Marie-Noëlle

You always catch the most lively (and lovely)things… with your camera!
    I like this photo N°3…

  47. Beautiful capture.

  48. priceless…truly priceless!

  49. Oh the joy of summertime and being a teenager. Days of uninterrupted mucking around, and a mum to cook you dinner.

  50. Look at all those cousins, they are literally stair-steps with their ages. They are getting to the dangerous ages, what out all you young girls!
    Teresa
    🙂
