Small Things

Small Things… the weave on a basket, the knots behind a tapestry, the dust bunny’s graceful dance when one walks by.

Small Feat… the first tip-toe steps one takes after putting a baby to bed.

Small Wonder… picking up the phone before it rings and having someone there.

A Small Curious Thing… being caught unaware that the song I happen to be singing or humming, has a message for me at that moment.

Small things that strike a conversation with the observer… the last cookie on a plate. The crumbled grocery list dangling in a shopping cart, with items not crossed off.

A Small Sadness… watching the yellow butterflies fly across the freeway as I drive towards them.

A Small PhotoJoy… how linen looks wrapped around an object as if it were softly celebrating a tender romance.

  1. A day filled with small wonders can add up to a wonderful day. Though it is so sad when the yellow butterflies migrate across the highways here – so sad when we cross paths, but an amazing miracle that so many of them do manage to survive to the next generation.
The linen does look as though it might be embracing the vase…as always, a lovely photo, Corey! xo

  2. Beautiful my lovely friend…….

Small wonders are often best of all. Lovely photo.

  5. If only we would spend time, all of us, concentrating on the small things, then the large wouldn’t be so large. Great links; I’m glad I slowed down to look at them.

  6. The threads and connections and weavings of the everyday.

  7. Small joys…getting up every morning and reading what thoughts you have and seeing what wonderful pictures you have captured! With my first cup of coffee and cream!
Thank you Corey for one for one of my small pleasures!

I can’t decide if I want to add your posts to the list of Small Wonders. Are they small? They seem to hold so much! But they are wonders, that’s for certain.

  10. Ahhhhhh…as usual this morning…beautiful words…and all so true.

  12. It is in the small things that my heart delights.
The minutiae of day to day living that stays in our mind, their memories drifting back unbidden to make us smile, when we need it most.
Thank you for the links, treasures both..!

  13. Every day I try to notice the small things….my little girl twirling in her dress….my boy holding the door open for the “ladies” in his life.
thanks for reminding me to look for some small things today.

  14. Small wonders-a butterfly or ladybug landing on your arm even for just a second. A toddler’s curiousity-stopping and observing something such as worms in the soil or the colors of flowers. Seeing people laugh so hard they cry and can’t speak(not enough laughter around these days). Seeing my dog rescued from a puppy mill learn to trust me and see his tail wag the first time-this is also a small feat. Curious thing-how you can strike up conversations with other shoppers in line at the store about obscure things. Sadness-that first fall chill in the air. Photojoy-the photos you post and tell stories of.

  15. no small joy, but large wonder to sip these sweet small things you bring our way…

  16. corey, how do you stay so positive?

A day gathered full of small wonders…sitting in the memory basket…enlivening the spirit to recall them. It is through these small wonders we find the most pleasure I feel. Sometimes the teeniest thing carries a large impact.
You led us to some amazing links as well, what a treasure too.
The best treasure me dear Corey, is YOU!
    XOXOXO

  21. Hi Corey, love this post. It IS the small things isn’t it?? Like your Godmother’s one decorated shoe.

  24. lauren Mumford

Since I’m a “big picture” gal, thanks to you my friend for consistently reminding me of “the small things”.
    hugs

  25. It is the small things, the nod of a head, the glint in our loved ones eyes, a babies soft sigh as it sleeps…………*sigh*

  26. Dust bunnies? Small things? Mine are more like lumbering rhinos!
    Ah to live in Corey-land…

  27. stephanie

Small joys I get by reading your inspiring words.

  28. Big, beautiful events that are occasions to be remembered for the years to come are wonderful and provide good memories. But I think the small joys are what really sustain us on a daily basis. When we lose the ability or desire to notice the small things around us, one day just melts into the next.
Such a lovely photo of the vase nestled among the folds.

  29. small things not noticed before suddenly become precious treasures… a non significant scribble from my dear dad written years ago, a delicate embroided handkerchief found in one of my mom’s hand bags, a presse papier of my beloved sister alice… objects of immmeasurable value!
    ABSORB COREY!

YOu are indeed the most observant person on the planet. All of these things struck a chord with me.

  31. Small Wonder… discovering that an amazingly talented and utterly kind hearted individual did something completely selfless and truly generous for another soul.

  32. A Fanciful Twist

Oh yes…. I do adore picking up the phone and not only is someone there, it is the person I was going to call.. Love that…. Or, the song I love humming in my mind, as I turn on the stereo… And it is playing…. xxo

Thank you Corey, for showcasing the linens Marita makes, they are astoundingly beautiful, aren’t they?
It’s the small things, a wink, a hug, a smile …all those things that warm our heart.

  34. Another “small thing” I just talked to Favorite Aunty. She just had tongue cancer surgery (they hopefully got the bad stuff) and is doing very well at age 91. Fit as a fiddle, just frustrated that she can’t physically do as much as when she was in her 50s. I love her so much and am so thankful that she is doing well and in good health and has an attitude that is enviable.

  35. I’m known to break out in song and usually it’s a song for a reason that I don’t plan.
The photo is delicious for the eyes.

  36. linen is crisp
    and that is how
    it wraps around
    the object
    of its affection
    today
    I crafted
    King Edward
    with my dear
    Mother…
    75 and…
    giving her life
    to BE with
    me – the moving
    target…
    and a bull’s eye
    is what everyone wants
    and hopes for
    we made an arrow
    for shooting
    a message
    to the Stars

  37. I love your photography. You know someday you should have some sort of book with all your wonderful photos. And your beautiful words to go right along with them!
