Vintage Puzzle

                            Img_5726

Four sides to each cube represent four different puzzles in one. Each depicting a season in a moment of daily life.

Considering its age (1900s) and how many times in has been dumped out to be re-played, the images of each are in good shape, and amazingly there aren’t any missing pieces.

…At times like these every little thing reminds me, or connects me to the eternal question that has been asked for generation after generation, the endless search for… "what is life all about?"

Tell me do you know what’s it all about Alfie?

  1. Corey, I learnt in school that cubes have 6 sides.

Thank you for educating me 🙂 I will correct my post. Nevertheless there are only four seasons and four images, as some sides are solid.

  2. It’s hard to see the big picture when faced with so many little pieces. Beautiful puzzle! Continued good thoughts for you and yours.

  3. It’s late at night, and I know you are alone in that big, cold hospital, at your dad’s side. You are a wonderful daughter. You are giving back what your dad taught you, and did for you. These are intimate moments, at night in the hospital, with intense feelings. Sending prayers of comfort to you and your dad.
Be sure to take care of yourself…you must in order to continue giving.

  4. Oh, Corey. I’m praying for you and hoping that even when it all seems so complicated that you will find the simple joy of life. May God be with you and your family.

  5. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away…
life’s ending is so much like life’s beginning
you are giving to your father just like he gave to you for so many years…

  6. Corey, I believe it’s about the greatest gift, Love.

  7. Beautiful lyrics .
It is all about Love .
Love of our family ,love of our “other” , love of friends , love of others, Love of God ……..
    I love these lyrics

  8. Our lives are the legacies we leave behind in the hearts that love us…………….
Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.

“This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.”

  9. For some reason, this song haunted me all day. I just turned on my computer now, at 6 AM, after an absolutely sleepless night and see that the same thought was on your mind. What’s it all about? That song has always been a favorite of mine because it so simply gives us the answer…
Dear Corey, I send my love to you and your family.

  10. I would have to agree. It’s all about love. Without it this is all meaningless. With the power of love we can change the world. God is love. Love is God. I don’t think you can separate the two. When you carry love in your heart you can walk into any room, any circumstance and the atmosphere will change simply because you choose to love.

  11. To LIFE! Life is puzzling..many pieces sometimes are lost..other pieces fit together perfecly to form the picture of Life. Don’t ask me where that came from..I just kept writing! Just popping in to see how you are doing.

    Dear Corey,
Over the last six weeks I have been trying to take my life just 15 minutes at a time…it helps because when you think that you are going through somehing that is unbearable…it gets a little easier if you think it only has to last for 15 minutes. When my children and I look up after 15 minutes… we realize that we can go on…and even smile for some time during the day. On Jauuray 30th our whole lives changed… and I can tell you it is LOVE that carries you through. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Peace,
    Leslie

  13. Without love, life would be nothing. Love goes on forever! It’s the only part of the puzzle I can put together.
    Hugs for you Corey!
    Still here for you!

  15. I think life is about love. We can have wisdom knowledge, and understanding, but without love they are nothing. Love bears all, hopes all, believes all, and endures all. Love never fails. We can have abiding faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of the three is love. To live well, we must love well.

  16. “What is the meaning of life?” Joseph {Campbell} was often asked, and he would respond, “There is no meaning. We bring the meanng to it.”
Like Carl Jung, he saw the approach of old age, not as a mere diminution of life, but as a time of blooming. If we have filled up the beaker of life and allowed to catch fire everything that needs to be consumed, then the quiet of old age is welcome. If too much life remains unlived, we approach the threshold of old age with unsatisfied demands that turn our glances backward. As Jung said, “An old man who cannot bid farewell to life appears as feeble and sickly as a young man who is unable to embrace it.”
Joseph taught that we can choose to live in rapture, that it is not “out there” in some other place or person, that we don’t have to go somewhere or have something or someone. “It is _here_. It is _here_. It is _here_.” A shift in consciousness is all it takes.

  17. Charity, the pure love of Christ, is what carries us through life. Serving another in their time of need, no matter what that need may be, benefits not only the receiver but the giver as well. We get to forget our troubles when we are caring for someone else. And that is part of the reason we are all here- to help each other. I think we forget that all too often.
You, and your family, are always in my prayers.
    love-

  18. as a child i loved and now still love those cube puzzles…sadly, today they are no longer made of wood.
such a puzzling question indeed, about life. maybe it’s the question itself that is the force that makes life what it is.
still holding you in thought and prayer.

  19. I don’t really know…all I know is that I put one foot in front of the other and do my very best…to be faithful and a loving person.
I love these old puzzles…my Mother has a few that I have found for her over the years.

Putting the pieces of the puzzle together is the job… Proceeding tentatively with tries, mistakes, sccesses… etc … is all the interest. As soon as the picture is put all together, the interest goes away (to my own oipinion)- until the picture is undone and is worked over again.
    What is life all about?
We work over it on and on…
There may be one answer or many ones but should we be satisfied with it/them if we had it/them straight away?
The interesting part is to work at it, proceeding tentatively on and on… each of us with one’s own beliefs.

  22. I’m not sure there is an answer to ‘what life is about’. It’s a journey, not knowing where or when the end will come. We must move forward each and everyday taking in each and every moment as if it were a priceless gem. I do know that this journey is nothing if one does not have love. Love is enduring, it’s endless. Without love the journey would be slow and lonely. Your father is lucky to have such love surrounding him. Keeping you wrapped in angel’s wings.

  23. How amazing that you have all the pieces. When I was growing up I always thought these puzzles were deliberately made with one block missing as I never seemed to come across a complete puzzle.
Even the one I found for my own boys at our local Op Shop (Sorry, Thrift Store) has a piece missing.
I wonder if the missing blocks are in the same mysterious place as the “odd socks”?
That you would have a complete puzzle, so old and so loved says so much about you, Corey. You value each small piece as important as the whole.
Peace to you and your family.

  24. Corey, my grandmother told me that the reason we lived was to love and be loved. So that’s what life is all about to me.

  25. Life is somewhat of a puzzling mystery, isn’t it? But then that mystery is a part of its beauty too, I think – if we knew just exactly how it all fits together altready – like how the magic tricks are done – perhaps it would lose its fascination, and we would take it too much for granted. just a theory… 🙂
    Sending ((hugs)) and prayers~xOx

  26. Life is all about Love and you do it beautifully Corey.

  27. Dearest Corey I saw a picture of your father today when I was at the recorders office at the court house, when he was a sailor so very handsome and so very adventures I see a part of all of his children in his features and his smile, what a beautiful unfinished puzzle, I Love all of you,

  28. May love be the pillow that your Father rests his head upon and may love be the air that you breathe. . .
In this broken, mixed-up world we live in, sometimes I think, Love is all there is ~ love of family, love of friends, love of beauty and love for those who are without.
    God bless you~
    Cindy

  29. What a beautiful puzzle. And “What is life all about?” I think it is a different answer for everyone. I think that when we find out what we are about and our passion then we have found our purpose and… what life is all about.

  30. Life can be described in two words; for living.Generations come and go and in each the individuals loved, lost and lived. To ponder such a question leads to many answers, every one important or relevant to that person.
But in the simplicity of it all ‘Life is For Living’.
    xo Susan

  31. Life is all about Love that gave so that we might have true Life.
Praying for you and your family.

  32. Sweet Corey, life is certainly a puzzle and during the difficult times the pieces are so hard to fit together. My heart beats anxiously, awaiting news – perhaps your dear father’s puzzle fits together, or do you still search and breathe slowly while holding the the final piece?
I know about Passion Sunday – my love flies to you and your family.

  33. Christine

Passion Sunday – the meaning of life – who knows what God has in store for any of us…..we will all walk this path eventually and I can only hope to do it with the grace and dignity of your father and have my loving family around me to guide me.
My thoughts never stray far from you and your family.
    humble blessings,
    Christine

  34. Right now it is all about Alfie. He shows me daily what’s important above all. Being close to those we love, sharing that wonderful bond of loyalty through thick and thin, unconditional love. You will never regret these gifts you bring to your father right now Corey.

  35. I think your blog would be a good example of what life is all about, should anyone ask. Life is about having faith and living each day. Finding good in the not-so-obvious places and learning from our daily experiences. Thanks for sharing.

  36. A woman I know makes these puzzles, and she sells them at Birthchoice auctions. Her puzzles are also four sided, but they are all religious pictures. Usually one is of the Nativity, another of finding Jesus in the temple, another of the crucifixion.~~Dee
