Missing Croissants and More

A taste of France would surely do me good. But since that is not going to happen anytime soon I will have to settle on emails, odd hour phone calls and photos stored on my laptop…. Though if my heart still is a fluttered I’m gonna go to a department store find the cologne section and drown myself with *Eau Sauvage de Dior Homme.

Photo: A croissant from the "good bakery" from the French village where I live.

*The only cologne French husband wears.

  1. My father and yours share a birthday – I sang for them both yesterday.
Sometimes we have to make do with what we have. You sound as though you’re capable of that 🙂

  2. God bless you my darling one
    I love you
“This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.”

  3. I’d like to drown myself with him too!!

A swill of Dior’s Eau Sauvage???
Your heart must be missing “someone” … TERRIBLY !!!
    Corto Maltese?…
    Zinedine Zidane?…
    hmmm…???…
I’ll see to that with my husband and his favourite perfume shop…
If your need becomes urgent, he could get and ship to you gallions of it so that you can have a BATH of Eau Sauvage…

  5. hmmm…. I’m willing to bet he is missing you as well, Corey.

  6. When I miss France I close my eyes and imagine myself waking up and seeing that delicate orangey/pink french light, I can hear the sound of old flooring, marble, tiles and weathered moist cobblestone as I pass over them to step outside, and the doves cooing in the morning, the hum of trucks unloading in the early morning, the crazy honking of those little cars and the sputtering of the motorbikes, the clinking of demitasse spoons on heavy old porcelain, and the murmurs of polite french conversation, the sweet scent of fresh flowers as the young florist arranges her wares, singing softly while unloading the morning delivery, I smell the yeasty baguettes as I head toward the boulangerie two doors down, then out to the misty park where the city jardinieres plant their latest batch of plants. I think France will forever be with me…

  7. A bath of eau sauvage would be great as Marie Noelle is saying.
Well , You miss things but things and poeple miss you …
I was thinking of you and actually something in ly kitchen was waiting for you

  8. I know this has been very hard on you…not only with the worry about your dad…but the loneliness of missing your family…my prayers remain with you…
    Mimi

  9. Corey,
Praying your homesick heart will be soothed and a happy reunion will be what you anticipate. Funny how the heart can feel at home one place while longing for another where it feels equally at home isn’t it? Many blessings on your day!

  10. Nothing gets the brain cells going like scent. When someone wears a cologne as their “signature” you always think of them the moment you detect it. The croissant looks like nothing I’ve ever seen around here. They don’t do authentic croissants on the prairie.

  11. You must miss FrenchHusband dreadfully, but you are an angel to your father.

  12. That was great. How much you must miss your sweetie! I think the cologne idea is a good one.

  14. Oh, Corey, I can imagine how much you and your family must miss each other! Enjoy those happy memories! Maybe you will see them again soon if your dear dad starts feeling better. God bless ~

  15. You must miss FH so much! Wasn’t there going to be a kitchen remodel starting just before you left for California? I had a croissant from a bakery rated as making the best croissants in town yesterday. It was delectable…butter held together with a bit of flour and sugar.

  16. I do hope you can find it! The cologne, that is.
    ((hugs))

  17. Buy a bottle and put some on when you go to bed at night.

  18. who wouldn’t miss la douce provence???
remeniscing with you… fresh baked croissants from ‘le boulanger’ next door, drowning in the scents of every day’s routine… so far away!
happy birthday to you, mr. amaro!!

  19. You’re making my mouth water. Also, I love the photo of your dad and love that you sang! AWESOME!

  20. OH Corey,
I can’t imagine being away for so long…but scent is strong. I think that is a lovely idea. Praying you will be togehter soon and your dear father will be healed. Happy Birthday to him.
    love and blessings

  24. Sometimes… all it takes is one bite, one nibble and memories and life floods all the senses and you drown in the bliss of the moment… knowing love in this way that you share is divine…

  25. A belated Happy Birthday, to your dear Dad, Corey!
    Pat

  26. Oh Corey,
*Eau Sauvage de Dior Homme* is my most favorite, too!!! I cannot find it near me at the malls anymore. I’ll have to do an on-line search for it for my sexy, springtime man!
I think of you and your family often and I’m keeping a good thought for y’all.
    xoxo,dede

  27. How generous you are Corey to keep sharing with us during such a difficult time.
I think your father is very lucky to have a daughter like you by his side.
May the love you and your family share help give you comfort.
PS. Tell him Happy Birthday and to pick a horse for the Ky Derby and I’ll place a bet for him!

  28. I remember sending your dad a birthday kiss across the ocean on his 80th! Has it been 12 months already?? Sending him another all the way from Australia. x
PS: When Mr BDK went to Africa as a field doctor for 3 months, I missed him dearly and would drown myself in his cologne every night – Gaultier, in a very provocative bottle. 🙂

  29. Awwww…I imagine FH misses his AW tremendously. And I imagine that your French-American son has had enough with the white diet, too! He’s probably daydreaming of colourful vegan meals right now. Bring on the broccoli!

  30. Yes, I can imagine that you miss croissants..and your hubby. I miss croissants, but I haven’t lived there as long as you have. Well, I have never lived there…but when I go I feel like I *live* there….

  31. Dear Corey
You must be missing them terribly as no doubt they are missing you. Stay strong
    Kathy

  32. The sense of smell is an amazing thing! =)

  33. I am so glad to hear that your father is doing better. It’s been such a long healing.

  34. A bath! Au sauvage!
    A splash… Ho! Sauvage!
    A drop… ô sauvage!
    Beaux rêves, Corey.

  35. They say our sense of smell is our strongest sense in triggering our memories…
Sending ((hugs)) and good wishes your way, Corey.

  36. p.s. Hope your dad had a happy birthday!

  37. Dear Corey…I know I can find a French bakery to bring you a croissant…but can’t help you with “and more” you are missing!
    🙂

  38. When my daughter went to England, she took my perfume with her and sprayed it on her pillow every night. 🙂

  39. Oh, you poor baby! I knew Eau Savage must be your husband’s cologne, before I read your footnote. I wish you a miracle. Huuuuugs.

  40. Just a small touch of France that I think you might enjoy…but find a book shop and get a copy of Mistress of the Revolution. I think you will enjoy it, and reading is always something to pass the time at a hospital.
    Sending you good thoughts!

  43. after surviving 2 long distance relationships and living thousands of miles from my family, i understand how hard it is to be far from people you love. every email and phone call, no matter how mundane, take on more significance. at least we have the technology for much faster communication – no more steamboat letters across the atlantic!
