Summer Music

This is their first day of summer, or better known as the first day of summer vacation. Sacha and his four cousins (two are not mention on the list above) are between 13 and 16 years of age. As Joe who just turned 13 said, "This will be the summer of all summers!" Of course in all honesty they have been saying this since they could talk and every summer is… the summer of their dreams come true.

I was up on the rice dryer, (as tall as a barn) taking photos of the dust cropper when I saw the boys trying to do double turns while touching their toes at the same time. Sacha is the one on the far left, then Joe, then Sam. The dust cropper does look like a master ballerina at times. At least my imagination thinks it does.. Don't you agree? The best thing about growing up in a rural town, (or at least in Sacha's case to have this childhood place of mine to come and spend summer vacation,) is the allowance to have the freedom to be a kid.

The dust cropper as low as it can go before swooping up to miss the telephone wires.

My dream is to be a dust cropper ballerina, swoop and twirl, dive and dip and fly like a butterfly on such a stage.

I think it is one of their dreams too… to have the freedom to enyoy every moment of their summer vacation on the stage called a ranch.

Let's dance!

Let me think… Loops? Twirls? Dives? Dips?
You do not need any ballet shoes nor butterfly wings, Corey…
Just get on board of FH’s plane… and your wish will come true !!!
These pictures of Sacha and his cousins make an accurate illustration of teens’ feeling of freedom…

Why dont you ask French husband for a few lessons so you can become the fantastic flying ballerina? I’m sure he would be thrilled about it!!! :o)
May your dreams come true, Corey!

  11. Your father’s love lives on in every jump for joy his grandsons take!

    Corey,
Your photos perfectly capture the exuberance of youth. Your words capture the desire to enjoy every moment in life. Both inspire me today as I celebrate a personal milestone in life. I hope this year brings to me the exuberance, excitement, and enjoyment that can only be found in youth as well as celebration in every moment ~ perhaps this will be the best year of my life! Thank you for blessing me today.

I think we all remember how we felt on the first day of summer vacation. Your words take me back to my youth when my friends and I would go exploring the country side around Willows. We spent may days just east of your house where Walker and Willow creek come together, hiking, fishing and swimming. I’m sure Sacha and his cousins will explore the exact spots I enjoyed as a boy.
I hope Sacha brings many smiles to your mother’s face and starts to ease her pain.

  14. I often think back to summers as the daughter of a farmer–so different from what city kids experienced–a freedom and carefree quality that they’ll never know. You’ve captured it so perfectly with your lens; I can practically feel the joy as they jump and dance and play with the crop dusting ballerina. 🙂

  15. Thanks for sharing Corey!

What wonderful images of what summer means in our youth. I’m sure it will be the best summer ever for those cousins.

  19. You’ve brought back memories of what “summer vacation” used to mean … how wonderful it would be to have an entire summer stretching before you to fill up with lovely memories. Having Sacha with you (and soon Chelsea and French Husband!) must feel so good! I hope you realise your dream of being a crop duster ballerina!

catching them goofing off and having a great time is fabulous. it’s a strange world where boys their age don’t know how they should act…it is nice to see them just having a good time, not worrying about what others might say or think.
and i think crop dusters are acrobats. graceful and serene.

  21. I’m so glad he’s there.

Do you know the pilot of this little airplane ? I am sure he is a character , with a somewhat wrinkled face , deep blue eyes , beautiful strong hands and a shy genuine smile . Tell me when you get to meet him !
I am so happy for you that all the kids in your family get to spend long holidays together . They will be building wonderful memories for later . About twirls and loops and double turns , ah , being able to do this and walk away normally without an injured back , yep , c’est la liberté ! 😉

Oh to be thirteen again. This post made me want to be kid again but I will simply relish in the idea of your son and your nephews being “kids” which is what every kid should experience, and to do so on a ranch is like having whipped cream with a cherry on top!
Hope you are doing well Corey. Thinking of you.

So wonderful to see Sacha and cousins greeting the summer with whirling twirls on the fresh earth, while the duster dips and turns above them, moving through thin air. Such a joy to put into your heart, Corey. And soon, Chelsea and FH will join you.

Hi Corey, Your posts are beautiful and thoughtful… the photographs are just outstanding. Thank you for sharing your family and your love and your sorrow with me… I especially love the story about the rusty old bed for your mom’s garden. I’m so sorry for your loss and I appreciate what you are all going through, in the long process of grieving and living. All my best, Kathy.
