A Burnt Birthday Cake and a Birthday Gift Cut in Half.

French Husband's birthday started out with my being so jet lagged I burnt his birthday cake.

I am not kidding.

Then I forgot to take a photo of his birthday gift to show you! I gave him a child's armchair that I found in an antique shop in California.

I had a dear friend cut the antique child's chair in half since it was too big for the plane. I cannot believe I had an antique cut in half…but hey one has got to do what one has to do.

More about the chair later… but first I have to sleep.

  1. Oh, sweet Corey,
I am sure the birthday still was a feast!
    Love your resourcefulness,
having an antique cut in half is really out of this world. `*giggle*
    Sleep well! 🙂

  2. At least it was a memorable birthday. 😉

  3. O.K. Get some rest and then tell us how it feels to be back in your French home. How surreal is it?

  4. Sounds like the stuff dreams are made of ~ Burnt cake, a revised antique and the one you love… in France.

  5. Sorry about the cake, Corey, I was wondering about the jet lag.
    Happy belated birthday to FH!
Having the chair cut must have truly cut across the grain 😉
I’m looking forward to hearing about it’s reassembly and other adventures.
    Take care of yourself!

  6. Girlfriend, you are precious! I have no idea why you would cut a chair in half, but somehow I know you will make it sound logical and endearing. I MISS you! How can it be that we have never “actually” met and now that you have returned to your Provence wonderland I am desolate? Silly, silly and yet one of the wonders of the magical internet experience.
Sleep, sleep and awake to share the wonders. I will be waiting with cafe au lait in hand (actually I may actually have chocolate in a cafe au lait bowl — I have a wonderfully cheerful one with a pink rim).
    Welcome home!
    XO
    Debbie

  7. You burnt the cake? What did you do with all the extra icing then? ::muffled giggling::

You know, it occurs to me that the months you spent with your family equates to the birth process, only in the opposite direction.
It’s as if you went away to birth your beloved father into what’s next for him.
Please pardon my impertinence, it was just a fleeting sense of things now that you’re home.

  9. hahahahahahahahahaha! you are incredible Corey!
I’m sure you and french husband laughed as one! Ohhhhhh Love!

  10. *Big Laugh*
    Hugs

  11. love you my darling
we are both reunited with our family.
    My son arrived yesterday
    I am over the moon
    and you are too.
    I love you
I am sure your husband is so happy to have his bride back in your home.
    Love Jeanne ^j^

  12. A Classic Corey Story 🙂

  13. Marie-Noëlle

Love is sharing everything… even antique baby chairs !!!

  14. Sweet dreams, Corey! FH can have a birthday do-over when you’re rested.
    xo,
    Lynda

  15. …………my guess was kinda close, right? Can’t wait to see the little chair.
Now I know you are real dear Corey – you actually do suffer jetlag just like the rest of us, lol!!
I think Yann will enjoy another celebration when you’ve rested – and perhaps the local patisserie will do the baking for you!
Sleep and have sweet dreams – you’ve earned them.

  16. Rest and revive yourself, dear Corey. You deserve a long respite.

  17. Your chair story reminds me of those heart charms which are cut in half, so each partner can have their piece! =)

  18. Oh sweetie! Have Yann put you to bed and cuddle up with a big soft pillow… Photos can wait, rest is necessary! Burnt cakes offer another great story, and ‘two’ chairs are always better than one… Bet he loved it though ~ hard to compete with nostalgia!

  19. It sounds like an I Love Lucy episode!!
    Get some good sleep!

  20. I can relate to the burnt cake. It makes for a funny story though. Can you reassemble an antique chair that’s been cut in half? Did you bring both halves? I’m curious. Photos please!!!

  21. Interesting, a burnt cake and half a chair, only you could come up with that combination! Corey, you do know that there are bakeries that make cakes and companies that ship things in one piece, right? Rest, relax, refresh, and quit trying so hard to jump right back into the stream of life!
I think you should use that wonderful imagination of yours to pretend for a few days that you are sleeping beauty, French husband is the prince and he can kiss you awake!

  22. Enjoy being in your own bed. Ahhh, sweet sleep.
I can’t wait to hear about the chair cut in half. For some reason this makes me not feel so bad for taking apart an antique wooden sled to carry on the airplane. It is nice to know someone else that would do something as crazy as that.

  23. Dear Corey, REST, REST, REST!!!

  24. Sometimes burnt cake taste the best …get some rest and I’ll be back to find out about the chair.

  25. I can relate to the burnt cake! I have done that before. I am wondering about the chair….do you plan on reassembling it?

  26. Happy Birthday, FH! Sleep tight, Corey!

  27. Hi There,
Well, I hope this brightens your day…
I just “awarded” you a blog-love award — its featured on my blog. Hope you rest well and are back up & running soon. ‘Cause we need more excellent posts from our only link to France — you! 🙂

  28. Happy Birthday to Yann…may I call him Yann? I feel like I know him 🙂
Good to hear that you are home safe and sound albeit jet lagged…that was a very long trip about 6000 miles.
You baked cake? Now that is love and dedication…but sort of burnt offerings.
About the chair…no, no I shall wait for the full story.

  30. Sweet dreams Corey!

  31. Too funny!
I went on a home tour once in which there was a really big old home…filled with antiques…and in the bedroom a drop ceiling of those tiles that are like hmmmm…corkboard or something…so the girl touring us said “this was my Grandfather’s 4 poster bed…we had to saw off the posts to fit in the room”
    I thought I’d die. (I didn’t)
