St. Anthony and the Dumpster Truck

                    corey

I have misplaced my brand new glasses.

The last time I remember having them on was Saturday evening– I was in the car with Chelsea, I was bringing her home from school, we were talking about my father and I wiped the tears from my eyes. I remember my glasses where interfering with wiping my eyes. I did not take my glasses off, because I didn't want to drive blindly.

Actually to say I have misplaced my glasses is an understatement… I have lost my brand new glasses. Glasses that I only take off to wash my face, change my clothes or go to bed.

I am wearing my old glasses that broke while in the States, and have holes in the lens…don't ask.

I have searched hi and low, I have looked in all the normal places, the probable places, in the off the wall places…. I am mad at St Anthony… he has never failed me before!

This morning from deep in my sleep, I heard the garbage truck come down the road. I heard the garbage being dumped… instantly as if my bed was the trash can being turned over I jumped up and ran outside… the garbage truck was driving away.

Why didn't I go dumpster diving last night?

  1. Oh Corey, I hope you find your glasses, but from the sounds of it, you might want to schedule an appontment with the opthalmo..tout de suite 🙂

  2. Praying for you Corey, for both losses: your glasses and your dad. I know from experience, both are serious losses! Cy

  3. Love and hugs
Here’s to finding your glasses or perhaps a new pair.
    I love you
    Kisses
I’ll keep an eye on you.

  4. Ah, I too lost my brand new glasses, last year, but then I went ahead and lost another pair of perscription glasses. I couldn’t believe it!I searched everywhere, they were last seen in the car as well.

  5. I don’t usually lose things – at least not for more than a day or so, but recently my watch was lost for at least two months! A couple of times I was close to replacing it…I figured the only thing that could have happened was that it fell off the bathroom shelf, landed in the trash, and was now forever gone. As I wore my watch night and day it was sorely missed.
One day a couple of weeks ago, I took the kids swimming and when I got home I noticed my swim bag had some sunscreen leaked out into it. I emptied the whole bag including the little zipper pouch, so I could wash it out.
Lo and behold, in the zipper pouch along with our swim passes and such was my long lost beloved watch!! I was so happy.
Hope your glasses show up soon.

  6. Oh,,,noooooooooo………been there, done that, dang. I usually loose keys and even though I have 3 pairs of glasses, sometimes I am hunting for a pair. can you read this?

  7. Ohhh…I hope you find them.
I threw out not one, but two special necklaces in the past. It’s a terrible feeling thinking about how you might have accidentally tossed them during a quick clean up or something.
    Maybe they’re still around somewhere….

    Corey,
They are not in the rubbish and they will turn up, I promise. I remember when I was first married and were living in an apartment, I was waving goodbye to my husband from the balcony. Before he got in his car he checked the mail and threw the letter up to me from the footpath below. I saw it come across the railing of the balcony and promptly disappear. I searched and searched. It wasnt till one of the plants needing replacing months later that I found it. Miraculously it had slipped between the potplant and the planter box, in a space of no more than 5mm (quarter inch), so impossible that I didnt consider looking there.
    Keep faith
    Barbara

  9. Yikes!!
I hope and pray they were not in the trash Corey. I think they will turn up 😉

  10. Funny you should mention it. I lost something very precious to me at a wedding on Saturday. I had it hanging around my neck on a chain. I’m devastated. But at least I can see.

  11. they will be where you least expect them to be. retrace from the moment that you last saw them…try between the car seats, under the seat, in a pocket of a coat…a bag???
    they will materialize 😉
otherwise…have a wonderful rest of monday:)

Did you look where the mattresss sits on the box spring? I wear contacts during the day, and glasses at night. Often, when I have lost minethey are near or in my bed. In a pillowcase, caught between the night table and the comforter, pinned betweent he bed and the wall, at the foot of the bed where the sheets tuck in…
I know it is kooky, but just a thought. :>

  13. They have to be under the car seat? Under the bed? Behind the bed table? Maybe even hiding in the bed covers? Perhaps where your towels are kept? I hope you find them!

  14. They were not in the dumpster – I ALWAYS second guess that way too but I assure you -they were not in the dumpster. I lost my passport (and my children’s passports) this past summer. It took me 3 weeks but I finally found them. Your brain is just blocking where they are because when you last remembered wearing them you were in tears about your father. The fog will lift and you will find them. 🙂

  15. Just keep looking & praying….I am sure you didn’t throw them away. Once I lost the diamond from my engagement ring…I dumped my purse out, shook it…looked everywhere…called everywhere. On Valentines Day I was looking for something in my purse and there was my diamond stuck in the corner of a pocket!!! Talk about prayers being answered!!! Valentines Day was several weeks from the day I lost it!!! Hope you find them today!!!

  16. St. Anthony has never failed me either; I still have faith that those glasses are somewhere nearby 🙂

  17. Oh no; you don’t really think you threw them away, do you? Look in the fridge, or the pantry.

  18. Check down between the seats in your car – not just under the seats, but between them. Phil’s sunglasses have been “found” there several times. And one of the women at my high school reunion had a lovely little decorative “chain” of beads and charms that hooked to her glasses – it was really adorable. She said it was a necessity because she was always losing her glasses and needed them desperately.

  19. Oh Corey, I am so sorry! The mind does play these cruel games with us at times, deciding to stop working while we do things like taking our glasses off, and then there’s no memory of the place we put them.
I hope you do find them, otherwise give a call to your ophtalmologist, you should be able to re-order the exact same pair of glasses, without going through the trouble of chosing a new frame! (Wait, Corey, could there have been a subconscious wish to get a new pair??? *smile*).
While thinking of your predicament (I read your blog in the morning, but only now am I able to comment), words from a poem came to my mind again and again, “lines lost among trees” – I began seeing your glasses among a pile of autumn colored fallen leaves. Any chance there? 😉

  20. Oh I hope you find them – soon!

  21. Oh Corey, just wear your rose colored ones, you know, the ones you always see the world with, the ones that enable you to share your world and words so beautifully, the ones that softly filter the harsh edges of life. They will always do in a pinch until your real ones are restored.

  22. I’m sure this is driving you mad. I always tell myself… “Think like yourself, where would you have laid them down”.
St. Anthony, where are you when we need you? Perhaps we should ask St. Jude to intercede.
    – Suzanne, the Farmer’s Wife

  23. As usual, St. Anthony is busy, busy, busy. Hang in there – the glass will turn up. Update to follow – yes?

  24. Oh Corey,
So sorry about your new glasses. I have a hunch they might be in the trash. St. Anthony usually does work. Is he on vacation?
    Hope you find your glasses.
    Rosemary

  25. I think you’ll find them somewhere connected to your “going to bed” routine. If you wear them all day and take them off at night then it is the “taking off place” that I’d look.
Of course if you take them off in the bathroom, near the trash basket, well….
    Good luck in your hunt!
    Darla

  26. Check under your bed…I have knocked mine off the bed table and found them there. My husband asked me about some poetry that was a gift to me many years ago. I went to the place I have kept it forever and it wasn’t there. It was always tucked in the side of a shelf in my butlers pantry and I remember when I was cleaning there picking them up and thinking I needed to put them someplace safe….well, safe from me I guess.

  27. Julie Ann

I hope they turn up Corey. I love this room, am assuming it is yours. I particularly love your curtain hold-back arrangement. How very French. How do they secure like that ? Peace, Julie.

  28. Corey, have you looked between the bed and the matress? Sometimes glasses can be that sneaky and hide in the oddest places. Try there!
    Crossing my fingers!
    Hug*

  29. Oh, dear. I am the same way with my glasses; can’t see a thing without them (and religiously remember where I place them when taking them off because…how would I find them again if I can see!).
Sending up a little prayer that you will cross paths soon.

  30. They will be in the place where you least expect them to be. So re-trace your steps and say a prayer to God he will help you remember where you placed them. It has worked for me. On the lighter “what, pray tell, happened to your glasses that were broken in the states? You said don’t ask but I just couldn’t resist.

  31. You know how they have that button on your portable phones to find them, why not on glasses? They even have chips that can be implanted into your pets, why not on glasses? St. Anthony came through for us last week, my grandson’s and I prayed that their mother would find her only set of car keys, he answered our prayer. He will yours too. Cousin Julie H.

  32. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ‘lost’ my glasses, and then they are on top of my head, or within arms reach… I hope St. Anthony shows you the way to yours too…
    Kisses

  33. Dear Corey
I hope by now you have found your glasses? I lose keys all the time, I think there is a little trickster lurking around the shadows of our house and gets amused watching me frantically searching, odd as it was I found them hanging from the telephone cord under the kitchen counter hiding from my sight… like the short story Purloined Letter from Edgar Allen Poe. Let’s do some detective work you had them in the car — you got out of the car then what happened? Can you remember taking off at bedtime? Oh St Anthony came back from your break….
    Best Joanny

  34. I have had that same gut-wrenching feeling when I have lost something and think, long after the garbage truck has come, that possibly what I have lost is in the trash. Usually it is my keys, occasionally my glasses and sometimes my watch.
I hope you find your glasses soon and that they are not in the landfill.

  35. Dear Corey
I forgot to mention when all else fails (including St Anthony (Uh Hum) I ask my younger son, Michael to find them,,, he just goes right to the spot, My husband lost keys in the park we searched for hours till dark I went home got Michael and he went right to them. How does he do it time and again I asked? He changes the way he thinks to random thinking — more free flowing thoughts– and follows his instincts.. He started the walk from the car straight to a tree he said where he thought the dog would go first and there they were…Umm so am I suppose to think like a dog? He finds them left in the cars, in old purses, coat pockets, what will I do when he is grown and gone? So Relax go with the flow and ask Chelsea to help you find them maybe she will remember your last place she saw you with them I hope you found them …. Joanny

  36. Oh those special little glasses are back on…haha..
well hopefully you will find them.. St. Anthony is usually there when we need him. I will say an extra little prayer and maybe it will work..
    Somethings Lost.
    Somethings Found.
Please St. Anthony help Corey look around!
    Good luck!

I want to see more of your house! (what a relief that you found your glasses)
