Learning from Seeing

small things

Whenever I go to the brocante I usually look in boxes and tins after I have looked around the entire fair. Then after I have checked out the big things, I go back and dig into the small things.
Today when I put my million photos on my new MAC I noticed how many photos I had forgotten. Tons of shots of inside of boxes, brocante fairs, my family, day to day shots of around where I live, and all-sorts of little things. As I scrolled passed the photos a flood of memories came to surface. I saw what I had learned and what I had put aside.

                  french brocante
Like of things I loved but didn't buy…
              sewing project
of projects set aside,

             summertime
photos of past summers
           brothers
Goof ball brothers-
            ellen
of dear friends and sacred moments shared,

As I transfered information from my old computer to the new one, I saw what I had learned and how much more I needed to learn … it was & is daunting.
Mac though easy in many ways will take time for me to get use to…. Teaching an old dog new tricks does take alot of chocolate, wine and TIME. I have said my share of swear words and my lower lip is bleeding. It is the little things that are the hardest to grasp… like this new mouse pad thingy! It alone could make me lose weight from frustration.

                      family
Though going through my old photos, sorting them out, has made me laugh… and I have noticed that I change the color of my hair far too often.

Okay, so back to the learning curve, sorting photos, not biting my lip and breathing. I love learning, I love learning, I love learning… I think I do… I just wish I was faster at it.

    Every picture tells a story

  4. I have to work with a MAC at work and I find myself frustrated often. I tell myself it is because my hard drive is full of all the memories and facts and “stuff” of my life, so I’m a little slower than I used to be : ) Wonder how I could purge some of the useless stuff I keep in my head!
You CAN learn! And wine and chocolate always helps!

  5. Corey, in your process of learning, you are teaching the rest of us. You make learning FUN!!! πŸ™‚

  6. I feel your pain, because it’s difficult to teach yourself new things quickly and we always want them quick, don’t we? Hang in there, and enjoy the process if you can.

  7. Love the shot of you and your family…priceless.
Change…it is good but not a quick thing most times.
    Have a wonderful evening.

  8. I have been starting to keep photos on memory sticks. This way my computer stays fast!!!
My new MAC is on it’s way. should be delivered by the weekend.
Hmmm- I smell a video chat in our future πŸ™‚

  9. Hang in there Corey!

  10. I adore this post. Realizing our path of knowledge is liberating πŸ™‚

  11. Wait. You mean if I buy a Mac I’ll get to eat chocolate and drink wine all day? I’d better save up…

  12. Isn’t is exciting going through old photos you’d forgotten you had? We recently bought a new computer, and in the process of transferring files I found photos of my oldest boy holding a baby (that baby is now my five year old)! =)

  13. Marie-NoΓ«lle

I LOVE watching and looking through pictures !
Especially old ones (and paper ones !)
    ALL of them !!!

  14. Ha~ha! I LOVE that photo of your family! πŸ™‚

  15. See, you never know what you might forget about. Changing hair color can be fun!!

  16. I love the goofy pic of you all!
And oh…about the Mighty Mouse? I didn’t like it either, so I just ordered a new Kensington Orbit, which was what I’d had with the old system. Though I’ll say that by the time the Kensington arrived, I’d mostly gotten used to the mouse.
What did you use before? There are lots of options.

  17. I love learning too. I just wish I could retain the knowledge better.

  18. Congrats on your MAC… I’m sure you may already know that there are free tutorials here: http://www.apple.com/mac/
Scroll down midway on right to where it says 100’s of tutorials (free) broken down by categories such as Photos.
Hang in there..in a couple of weeks you’ll have to be pulled away from it by family as they plead with you to at least stop for a little food.
I like this site just for staying up on unusual things related to MAC http://cultofmac.com/

  19. ROTFLING =)
the family pic into the window is fabulous!!!
I bit my lip just reading of your frustration-oh how i know it all too well…
keep plugging along- You are to be my Mac inspiration!

  20. I love the pic of you and your family being goofy, I’ll just bet you have started of wave of goofball photos being posted!!!

  21. Massilianana

You are such an adventurer !!! Our Indiana Jones in Provence with a glass of wine and melted chocolate at the corner of your lips instead of the whip…and a nice hair color instead of the famous hat ! You are so right about the learning thing . And it takes all kind of shapes . Bonne continuation !

  22. Congratulations on your new Apple.
I love the family photo…will that be this years Christmas card?
My TypePad account was recently changed to the easier version…el losto…well I am on a learning curve. It is the computer language that has me lost…I think it is even harder than French πŸ™‚

  23. Oh that family photo is great! What a neat opportunity to review memories. That Arc postcard is now framed and on a table in my living room and treasured. Thanks Corey!

  24. it really is a shame that your family is so reserved and boring. πŸ™‚
love that family photo!! xmas cards?!?!

  25. Ed in Willows

I’ve been using PC since I started and don’t think I could make the change. I admire people who take on new adventures. It takes time but I’m sure you will master it in the end. Just remember.. paciΓͺncia.

  26. Corey,
I’ve had my MacBook Pro for 3 yrs. 3 days ago my husband just discovered a shortcut with the pad. Go to System Preferences. Click keyboard and mousepad. Choose “use two fingers to scroll” and “allow horizontal scrolling”. This means you can scroll by putting 2 fingers on the pad. Also, a quick way to go back is hold 2 fingers on the pad then click.
I guess I’m not smarter than the average bear. I hope this helps.

  27. Love the family picture. I think it’s great you are willing to learn something new and keep up with technology. I stick with what I know. My children have to show me how to do things!
    Blessings to you today.

  28. Cute blog!!! I loved the picture of the fam!!! Very cute! Can’t wait to see you all again next summer!

  29. Such a funny picture of your family πŸ™‚ It is fun to return to photos long-since forgotten and become reacquainted.

  30. I’m so impressed at your willingness to try something new as opposed to sticking to the tried and true. Now, I wish I could do the same! And, you are right about teaching a old dog new tricks. It is very hard to absorb all of nuances that come with learning new things. It is so much easier to revert back to the old way for the ease, comfort and simplicity. As for as looking at pictures and sorting through where you have been, it is during this time that one can see how far they have travelled and where they are headed. Amazing if you think about it!!

  31. i’ve had my mac since january and absolutely love it! now it’s hard for me to use a pc.

  32. Before blogging (since June past) I rarely snapped a shutter and NEVER douwnloaded a thing. I’ve learned to do it all and loved/hated every minute of it!! πŸ˜€ Keep up the good work!

  33. Ellen Cassilly

Bravo Corey. Take a look at cassilhaus today. Tomorrow is moving day! E

  34. I just shiftet over all my pictures on my new Computer. And now I’m sorting, I don’t think I need these many blurred ones! But it takes very much time to decide what I need right at hand and what I should burn on cd.
    Your funny family-photo is wonderful!

  35. As you said, plenty of chocolate and wine….that’s the key to learning anything.

  36. Your post made me smile. I too have to tell myself I like to learn. I will remember that chant. I enjoyed seeing all your fun pictures. As a hair stylist I too have changed my hair color often. When a son returned from a stay of two years in South America, He asked his dad why I didn’t come to the airport. I was standing right there. He had never seen me any other than differing colors of blond. I had gone natural:)
    Good luck conquering your Mac.

  37. Corey, just go out and get a little fiberoptic mouse, that’s what I did when I got my Mac Book about a year ago. I’m just too mouse-oriented to adopt to keypad, and why should I–or you? You just get this cool little mouse that has a USB plug in. Otherwise I’ve found Mac very easy to “intuit.”
Is there an Apple store in Marseilles? If so, signing up for One on One is well worth it.
If not find a family member who was an early Mac adopter.
    Comme toujours, bonne continuation,
    Ta copine,
    Mary in MN

  38. Is it possible to color ones’ hair too often?! I think not! *wink*
I don’t do well with the touch pad myself, so I went out and bought a wireless mouse. At least now I’m not accidentally brushing the touch pad and going to some random page with no clue as to what happened….LOL

  39. I’m relatively new to photography (since digital cameras …) and yes, it opens to you a new world of sensations and new worlds to explore -outside and inside-
    Mac….? I never used one. I love PCs! πŸ™‚
    xoxo

  40. Hey, you’re getting your blog posts up and going, aren’t you? And photos downloaded. So you’re doing GREAT!

  41. what a silly family! that picture made me smile.
    πŸ˜‰

  42. I have a MAC too , it took some convincing from my husband but in the end I find it very handy for my blog. The journey has been two years ( since MAC came to my house) In the end I like it better….. however since our move to Germany I can’t get my spell check to work…oh what a mess :0 I think it is more me and my blog site though πŸ™‚ Good luck !
