Santa Claus wears a wedding Ring

1991

Once upon a time on Christmas Eve, when Chelsea was just a wee one, French Husband took great care to dress up as Santa Claus. He sported a red
costume, stuffed pillows under his belt to look jolly and round, he
arranged the fake white beard, making sure every curly hair was in
place. Then he pulled up the borrowed black boots…Voila! A French man acting as an American Santa!

Santa arrived
saying, "Ho-Ho-Ho!" Which sounded like, "O O O!" Chelsea didn't notice the French accent, but what she
did notice snowed me under…when Santa left Chelsea turned to me and
said,

"Santa has the same ring (wedding,) as Daddy! Nice Daddy Santa!"

  4. Reminds me of my own traumatic Santa experience one Halloween…I wish Chelsea all the long years of enjoying her “nice Daddy Santa” that I had with mine. (http://1eyedmonkee.wordpress.com/2008/10/)

  5. An observant little girl!

  6. We could never fool our children with dress-up Santas! One year Dale’s uncle walked by the window (outside) so the kids would go to bed…
    somehow they knew?
I love your stories of times past when the kids were little…

  7. It is hard to get one by kids!!! A great Christmas memory for your family.

  8. That is hilarious! One year our son Max wanted to try to get a picture of Santa so he and his dad rigged up a booby trap that is much too detailed to get into here. Geoff took one of his rubber boots from the garage and stuffed a santa hat into it so it would show fur and red and stuck it in the fireplace as if ol’ Santa got caught and had taken off up the chimney. He then snapped a cockeyed picture and left the camera as if it had fallen over. When we got up it was the first thing Max went to. When we got the picture developed he noticed that Santa had the same boots as his dad and that the lights were on in the picture though we’d turned them all off. He was fine believing Santa and his dad had the same boots and after I explained that he had probably turned on the lights so he could see what doing he was firm believer!

  9. Wonderful story! One year my dad dressed as Santa and showed up on our door step on Christmas Eve. My son was 5 at the time and wishing with all his heart for a remote control robot. We had supplied the robot and Santa came in with a “HO HO HO Merry Christmas!” I think it scared my son he stood stock still with eyes as big as saucers and never said a word. He would not even open the gift! After my dad left he turned to us and said, “Golly Moses, I’ve seen the jolly old elf himself!” He was quoting a line from a story book. We cracked up. He proudly took pictures of Santa at his house to show and tell after Christmas break.

    That’s so sweet!!!!

  11. LOL! Love this! (Does this mean I now have to tell my two youngest children that Santa is really your French Husband?! heehee)

  12. What a darling story. Did she see Mommy kissing Santa Claus too?

  13. Kids are so observant. How cool that Yann was willing to dress up as Santa Claus.

  14. That girl is going to grow up and be a detective or a jeweller!
    LOL

  15. what a cute story! kids do notice the most random things…..and usually the ones you don’t want them to 😉

  16. The grocer’s son used to dress up as Santa, stomp on my Grandparents roof making a bunch of noise. Then he would come to the front door and give the bag of presents to my Grandfather. We loved it. Had the grandkids fooled for a few years. That is until elder tattletale cousin loudly announced the truth to us younger cousins. Hope she got coal in her stocking that year.

  17. Such a cute story. I also love the post below. It is such fun to hear about various Christmas customs around the world.
This year we will be in Denmark for Christmas 🙂
In Iceland we also put out our shoe…but we go one better we do it for 13 days, starting December 12 until December 24.

  18. What a darling story and how perceptive of Chelsea. Children can sometimes “blow you away” with what they notice. Try thinking like a child and you’ll see what I mean. Their thoughts are so innocent and pure with no malicious content to anything they say. To bad we can’t preserve their innocence in a jar like canning.LOL

  19. So Cute! I’ve just been reading your archives and love the other Santa stories too. FH is a good sport, but we already knew that.

  20. Proof once again that kids say the darndest things!! Too funny Corey!!
