French Magazine Marie Claire and bathroom Dreams…

French magazine marie claire bathroom ideas

French magazine Marie Claire makes me drool. I was sick in bed all day, but by nightfall I started to feel a bit better. As my family was sleeping I couldn't make noise… I started searching ideas online. I tell you these photos perked me up and had me wanting to jump out of bed and re-do everything around me.

I woke up French Husband and showed him the bench beside the photo of the claw foot tub… "Look Honey isn't that a great idea?!" He did not have a happy face… I think if I hadn't been sick the last 24 hours he would have tossed me out of the bed for waking him up.

The photo of the free standing column faucet by the tub is exactly like the one we bought. The plumber did not enjoy putting that in the ground.

By the way where is the evacuation pipe I don't see it in this photo? Maybe it is a fake bathroom?

Years ago a building was being torn down in Marseille, I happened to be walking by when the demolisher was carrying out a marble fireplace. He was heading towards the dumpster. Of course, I had him throw it into my car. I hadn't thought about that fireplace in years!!! I woke up French Husband again, "Where is our marble fireplace? Can we put it in the bathroom? Look at this photo of one!"

French Husband looked at the clock, grabbed a pillow and threw it at me, "Go to sleep."

I felt bad for a minute that I woke him, then kept looking up ideas silently to myself.

Don't you just love how they used a long narrow table as a bathroom counter? Imagine a sink posed on top at the other end. Yeah I like that too. That Venetian antique mirror… sigh… they cost around 800 euro. I did not dare to wake up you-know-who for this one.

Cement poured bathroom counter. Stone wall shower. Reproduction exposed pipe to heat towels. I think I want this bathroom… Why did we cover our stone wall?

Realistically, our stone wall would have never looked this good, and it would have cost far too much to have it reinvented.

I saw one of those reproduction towel racks. A small one cost approximately 700 euro. Tiffany's and towel racks have something in common.

This bathroom is in a B&B in the heart of Provence. The B&B is called Each room was created with antique pieces but with a modern sense of design. Isn't the ladder a good idea for a towel rack too.

Towels for the bath.

Years ago my friend Ellen and I went to a hammam in Paris. I felt I had gone back in time. I wished I had long hair, brought beautiful woven towels, rose oil and a couple of satin pillows… it had all the other elements that this image shows. It remains one of my fondest memories. The gommage was unbelievable. I can still feel the cold marble floors underfoot and feel the steam rise around me when I think about it.

French antique tapestry

This is part of a large French antique tapestry that I have had hanging in our bathroom. I am thinking to put it somewhere else in our house, and in its place put the nude, charcoal drawings of men that I have rolled up in the cupboard…. should I?

I bet you want to see them first…
Well if I got up now, in the middle of the night, and took photos of them I am sure French Husband would wake up and think I had real flipped out.

Tomorrow then?

  5. Just had a look round your blog – love it! Fantastic photos you take and great writing style. The only problem being you now have me pining for french flea markets big style. The pictures on the “French Paper and Lace” section have had me drooling unattractivley onto my keyboard.
I’ve added you to my blogroll. Hope thats okay – let me know if not and I’ll take it down.
Right I am off to discuss the family benefits of a french flea market centered vacation with husband.

    Hi Chantal
Welcome! Yes please link to me I love that idea.
When you come to France I’ll show you the best places to go brocanting in the south of France.

  6. you can see the ‘out spout’ dark area carved out of the pattern in the brick, in the bottom center front of the tub closest to us.
Those exact magazines come to my mailbox, it’s one of my most coveted indulgences!
    Hope you’re feeling better.

  7. i love renovating…..oh i am sure that the bathroom will be fantastic!!!

  8. Corey I just love your blog. You are the person everyone wants for a best friend. I think you definately need those nudes in your bathroom to go along with that claw foot tub. I love that you woke up French hubby in the middle of the night. That is what I do also.

  9. Seriously….. I advise against having a large mirror in view of the tub. Trust me on this one.

  10. There aren’t many blogs that have me making little mewing sounds of envy as I look at the photographs, but yours does… Mmmmmm

  11. Christine

Hi Corey – I am just getting over the bad cold as well…..love the bathroom inspirations, mirrors, nudes and all…..go for it.
    Christine

  12. These photos are amazing! I cannot wait to see your completed project now that you have even more inspiration! As for FH, he has the gift of patience. It’s probably good that you’d been sick all day and built up some compassion in him. I’m glad you’re feeling better! And yes! we must see the nudes.

  13. Cory,
Beautiful pictures of baths. I’m in love with all of them.
Glad you are feeling better. There’s nothing like 24 hours in bed to restore the soul!!

  14. well Corey
i think you are well now! hurray! nothing like a few decor pics to get the spirit soaring again
    thanks for the inspiration

  15. Hi Corey,
I just bought that mag a couple of days ago. I don’t understand a word of it but does that matter?!? It is sooooo pretty! We put in a claw foot tub when we built a couple of years ago and have that type of faucet. I have to be careful with the ‘telephone’ sprayer or water goes everywhere, and is quite powerful! I hadn’t been much into baths before this but that tub is just so comfy, I lay in the scented bubbles with a book until I can’t get any more hot water. Today I am organizning my closet. Would rather be in the tub reading Marie Claire!!!

  16. I want the purple claw foot tub and purple chair on the Devon & Devon link! Mmmm, isn’t the middle of the night one of the best times to photograph male nudes? 😉
Glad to know you are feeling better.

    Hi Alina
    Naughty girl!

  17. Tiffany’s and Towel Racks have more in common than just the price! Both are worth their weight in platinum. A heated bath towel is one of life’s greatest luxuries… if forced to move into a farm house, that had only solar pannels that could only supply a fraction of the home’s electrical needs…I’d give up a stove before the towel rack…once you have one you’ll never go back!

  18. I love the bath with the fire place. That would be heaven.
I too would think twice about a big mirror next to it.
    Heated towel racks..now you’re talking.
    Yes, bring on the nudes.

  19. Corey,
a good plumber should be able to fashion you a simple towel rack by exposing part of the copper piping. You may not have a multi-tiered one, but it should do the job.
I love the look of the grown-out white tulips in the third picture from the top! I like to put tulips in one of my tall soup terrines: they grow and grow, until the blossoms winds up kissing the table.
    Good luck! 🙂

  20. Each of the bathroom photos are wonderful. So much inspiration.

  21. Glad to hear you are feeling better. I love the Marie Claire Idees magazine for wonderful ideas – I’ll have to look for the home decorating one.
I can’t believe I was in Avignon for a week 2 years ago and never once went to a French flea market. I’m kicking myself every time I see all your wonderful finds! But I just don’t know how my husband would have handled having to purchase another suitcase to carry all my treasures home!
    Lorrie

  22. If there were ever a place in my home where I could get away with putting prints of bare-bottomed men and bare-bossomed women, it would definitely be the bathroom! Well, I DID try it once… I put up a vintage mermaids print (thinking I could get away with it since I live near the ocean)… the mermaids had nothing on save their tails, and let’s just say my 6 year old daughter put up a serious fuss! The print didn’t last a week! lol

  23. In that first picture, is that how
you are going to paint your tub? I
don’t think I would want a giant mirror image of myself getting out of the tub, if you know what I mean!!
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
    Hi Jackie
No no no… I am going to leave the tub as it is, which means paint scrapped off.
Regarding the big mirror: We have a big mirror facing the shower in our other bathroom. At first it was an interesting shock, but as time goes on we hardly noticed it.

  24. He was throwing a marble mantle in the dumpster? Oh, my. I feel faint.
I have always wanted a stone wall open shower. Maybe when I hit the lottery. (although thinking on it, the dog and cat would try to get in there with me….LOL)
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°
    Hi Amy
I know shocking isn’t it! When we lived in Paris (twenty years ago) I saw marble fireplaces and moulding being ripped out of buildings all of the time.
    C

  25. Stone walls, fireplace, and huge bathtub would definitely work in my dream bathroom. I’m not complaining though; I have the huge bathtub and it’s pretty darn good.

  26. You can’t leave us hanging like that! Yes, you have to show the nudes!!

  27. Again, I can relate. I have a small *window of opportunity* to discuss things with Chris before I get *the look*. He would kill me if I woke him. I think people with cretive minds can’t shut them off. it is both a blessing and a curse.
Your bath will be lovely I am sure of it. Great photos!!

  28. Denise Moulun-Pasek

    Hi Corey!
About the etchings of nude men, they would probably look better if you’re going for a sleek, minimalist look. But again, what color is your marble fireplace? If it has yellow tones, then you may want to keep the tapestry…
    It’s going to look fabulous!
    Denise
    ______________
    Hi Denise
    I agree with you.
    The marble fireplace is white.
I think it could work if I keep in mind our other bathroom: Modern and Old mixed in simplicity.
I’ll know more when the sink is put in.

  29. well at least you hubby acknowledged you…mine would just roll over and snore…heheheeh I tihnk you are lucky woman I love all the pictures so I look forward to seeing what you do.
    love and blessings

  30. So glad you are feeling better, and I can’t believe you woke him up not once, but twice!!! Thanks for sharing the link to the Marie Claire website. Lots of wonderful decorating inspiration there.

  31. Glad you are feeling better. I love the color of the walls in that last bathroom. And I love the cement-poured sink in the other one – actually I love everything about that bathroom.

    Hi Naomi
I know me too! Makes me want to have a house of bathrooms 😉

  32. I’m glad you’re back on track! I like very much the first pic, it’s really elegant. I can’t wait to see the bathroom finished. And say hello from me to the saint man (aka the FH).

  33. *sigh* we are designing our bathroom too and looking for the old tub. I love the idea of the marble fireplace next to the metal tub, ahhhh!
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°
    Hi misschris,
We are going to measure the fireplace and see if it will fit. My fingers are crossed.
