A Romance with Pasta is Bella

A romance with Italy is always bella

A romance with Pasta is what my son Sacha has. I think he was born in the wrong country. From the time he could talk Pasta was what he asked for over candy, toys and any other thing. As a child he ate pasta for breakfast  (I was considered a bad mother for serving to his whim… But did I care?)

What is curious about his love affair with Pasta is if Pasta is the main ingredient I can  mix whatever I want in it and he will eat it. Vegetables do not have a food critic if they accompany pasta.

At sixteen Sacha is six foot two, and has a long-lasting healthy relationship with Pasta.

When the salted water is spitting hot, toss in the pasta. As it goes around and upside down bubbling, entertain yourself as you confetti a porcelain bowl with the following friends…

Purplish black olives, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted pine nuts, crumbled Greek feta, kisses of garlic, coarsely grounded pepper…swirl several golden ribbons of olive oil…then add a handful of aroma by
running outside and picking fresh basil leaves. Let the flavors
intermingle and chat each other up, as you spread out a blanket under
the full moon with Puccini.

Your heart a flutter, toss the orzo pasta al dente with the colorful, collected, edibles. Cling your glass of vintage Syrah with the enchanted moonbeam, and enjoy a pungent mouthful of delight!

elle in San Francisco, this is one of my many favorites from her cuisine. Dill bread and
Clam pasta are my others.

What is one of your favorite pasta dishes?

  1. I eat whole wheat pasta with fresh sauteed veggies on top with a nice salad.
    Love all you share.
    That’s amore.
    Love you

  2. Hi Corey, the pasta looks wonderful. I may give it a try. My family needs a change. We are suffering from cabin fever. Too much time indoors staring at the walls.

  3. Pasta with vegetables, yummmm. I love pasta of all kinds, just do not like Alfredo sauce.

  4. My favorite, always and always, is a pasta dish with clams, scallops and shrimp…but we used to get it in this little Italian restaraunt, and the place is now closed!
Other than that I’m like Sacha…throw everything in a bowl and add pasta!

  5. I’ll take it anyway I can get it! The simpler the dish though, the better it seems to taste…
My kids love spaghetti with butter and fresh parmesan!

  6. My Melange

I make a pasta so very similar to this, but the friends in the bowl that you speak of get warmed in a skillet. And I pair it with spaghetti-like noodles. Mmmm, Mmmm- Good!

  7. my kids always ate pasta for breakfast. same reason, you could put anything in it. even anchovies and whip up puttanesca. they would eat it.
    Hi Margie
I am glad to hear I am not the only mother in this type of breakfast club.

  11. This sounds delicious! My 17 year old would love it. He’s just recently realized he can stand sun-dried tomatoes. He is not like Sacha. He loves pasta but prefers meat and potatoes with bread. Could be the Texas influence. I try.

    Hi Candy
We are vegetarians so meat is out and sun dried tomatoes are in.

I guess I like the simple things in life. Give me plain old spaghetti and meatballs. The next morning, I’ll make cold spaghetti sandwiches on bread and butter.

    Hi Ed
That is where we draw the line…non meat eaters here. It is a sure way to eat vegetables if you don’t eat meat.

  13. I just had a pasta dish with sauteed parsnips and pancetta (via Mario Battali), tossed with some parmasan and snipped parsley. The parsnips carmelized and were so sweet. Unexpectedly good!
    Hi Tut tut
Sans the pancetta the carmelized parsnips sound delicious!

I love pasta, too, passionately, and would eat it for every meal if I could. Fortunately for my culinary variety, I am not the cook in this household…

  15. Suzanne, the Farmer’s Wife

Hands down it’s Carbonara. Omigosh I could eat it everyday.
Creamy sauce and pancetta….Carbonara is heaven on earth.
Do you make your own pasta? It’s so delicious and hold the sauce better than the store bought variety.

  16. Pasta with black olives, scallions, diced cucumber and chopped hardboiled eggs, pepper, olive oil for dressing. Perfect salad in warmer weather. Sometimes I add diced green pepper if it is on sale at the store. Fusilli, penne, tortellini or ravioli with olive oil, olives and lots of parmesano reggiano in winter. Maybe some peas, cooked with the pasta. Yes, addicted to olives and pasta here. A friend said she hates parmesan-it smells like dirty feet to her. Turns out her idea of parmesan comes in that green shaker can!

  17. Heck,I am just happy with a box of Macaroni and Cheese. Good pasta comes from Olive Garden, or any one else cooking it. Yum!

  18. Hi Corey,
Not only are we waiting for “Your Book”..
we are all hoping for a cookbook to follow..
I can picture it…your unique and creative recipe writing and superb photos would make a brilliant presentation!
Love all your word gifts, Judy B.

  19. Being italian I was feed with pasta since an early age, and whatever is in it I’ll eat it (like your son). My fave? Carbonara and Amatriciana (sorry, meat is in both).

  20. My favorite:
Whatever pasta dish my sweet husband throws together. Your recipe sounds so close to one of his creations. And he also loves to use whole-grain pasta from Raleys…extra body & flavor!
This email made me want to have a moonlight picnic~

  21. Only you could turn a recipe into a glorious story! I like pasta as long as it doesn’t have red sauce….

  22. I must try your pasta recipe. I have never been good at making pasta my family will eat heartily. Is the pasta in the picture orzo?

  23. I think my favorite is actually a cold orzo salad, with tiny diced cucumbers, diced tomatoes, feta, a tiny bit of purple onion, Greek olives, all in an oil and balsamic bath! =)

  24. Clam Pasta? I thought you were vegetarian?
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
    Hi Julie
We are. I have been a vegetarian for over thirty years, Yann has been for 25 years and the children since birth.
We eat fish rarely, and Sacha only eats McDonald’s fish burger (if you want to call that fish or a catch 22

  25. Sounds divine, less the olive. Sorry, olives and I have never had a good relationship and I promise you, I have tried.

  26. Corey – I just reread this post… and did you say your son is already 6’2″??? Please excuse me for asking, but are French men often tall? Hubby and I have had a longstanding (VERY SILLY) argument over this… hubby is 6’3″, his brother is also 6’3″, and their father was 6’5″ (this is on the French side of the family). Hubby says he comes from tall French stock ~ I just said it was the “luck of the draw”! lol
PS – I’m a shrimp at 5’2″, and hubby says I come from old European peasant stock (which is actually true)!

  27. Rebecca N.

I want to stand up for pasta as a nutritious breakfast. It’s made of grain and eggs, after all. 🙂

  28. My favorite pasta dish is one made by anyone who can cook, as long as it’s not spaghetti.

  29. Pasta primavera is one of our favourites – lots and lots of vegetables and whole wheat pasta in a light cheese sauce. Mmmn
    Lorrie

  30. My mouth just watered.

  31. My favorite is spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs.

  32. My little 20 month old grand daughter eats nothing but pasta with veggies. No meat or potatoes in her life. I also cook pasta but not everyday and we love orzo any which way…ciao

  33. SweetPeaSurry

I’ve had a devil of a time posting comments today, we’ll see if this works.
I love this pasta-toss. I usually do the same thing around my house, I have some staples that always go well with pasta for when the bank account runs low.
I’ll be adding some Feta and Pine nuts to mine next time, I haven’t tried that before.
    Have a good one!

  34. Julie Ann

That is the most beautifully written recipe that I have ever read – and I will try it. Thanks, Julie x

  35. I have two favorites I make often. Simple one pot Penne Gorgonzola, and Bowtie Pasta with Swiss Chard (blettes) and shallots, a dash of Alfredo sauce and toasted pine nuts. I also do the orzo pasta with everything thrown in – let it cool and serve as a salad – delish!!

  36. Lasagna
and vongole (tomato and little clams) sauce with capellini
    Love pasta!

  37. spaghetti bolognese, my favorite comfort food. But I’ll be trying this recipe too. I could eat pasta every day but cruel Weight Watchers only allows a serving big enough to whet your taste, not satisfy the urge.

  38. We make a pasta very similiar to this…we also add spinach and balsamic vinegar to make a vinegrette base before stirring everything else in. My kids have eaten this at least twice a month since forever!!

  39. StaceySnacks

It’s a toss up between a good puttanesca sauce or orrechiette w/ sausage and broccoli rabe. But I love all pasta, even plain with just butter and black pepper.
    Your orzo sound delicious!
    Love your pretty blog!

  40. If cookbooks made recipies sound as glorious romantic as you do, I’d be a gourmet and weigh 400lbs!

  41. Corey….I just discovered your lovely blog this morning and came across your rice dish.
It sounds absolutely delicious and I’ll be heading to the store this morning to buy the things needed to make it. I will definalely be checking back a lot. Did someone mention a book? I can’t wait to purchase it!! And I second the post about a cookbook! 🙂 Have a beautiful day!

  42. breathingdreaming

Love your blog; such beautiful images!
I just posted one of your photos of the antique lace curtains, and credited your blog. I hope it’s OK with you, if not I’ll remove it of course.

  43. This sounds so yummy and gourmet Corey!
My boys are also going to be very tall (a little younger than Sacha…). One wants to own a nice restaurant some day.
    Love the new banner!

  44. Boxwoodcottage

    Hi Corey,
can I just say how much I love your recipe! I made it for my birthday party yesterday, but we ate it cold as a pasta salad. Everyone loved it and asked me for the recipe. It’s so yummy! Thank you for sharing!!!
    Warmest wishes sends you
    Carola xox
P.S.: Your bathroom is going to look so beautiful!!!
