Eating Pizza with a Fork and Knife and One Messy Fifty Year Old

Oh me oh my.
Have you ever started something and half way through thought,
"Why am I doing this?"
The bathroom project is halfway done, and my hands and nails are stained permanently grey.
Last night we ordered Pizza. Simply because I didn't want to cook. As we sat down to eat Sacha looked at my hands in shocking disbelief. I answered his look with a smirk, "Its paint. I washed them, honestly I did." And then I grabbed a fork and knife and ate the pizza in stylish fashion.

Many of you have asked me to share my painting technique. Oh me oh my. Trust me it is not a technique. It is more of diving into several cans of paint and making a mess. Fun yes, long yes, messy yes, final product up in the air yes, technique? … I'll show you tomorrow. Expect photos of blobs of paint and messy hands and a fifty year old relying on her inner child to lead the way.

  1. Some time after my mother died, I decided to re-do her room as a craft room for myself. The only problem was, her room was in shades of pink, including wallpaper (a bad idea in this area, but that’s another story)and I don’t like pink. Soooo, I started peeling off the wallpaper, which didn’t want to come off because it was the old kind. With the products available, I finally got it off, but it took the paint underneath off down to the drywall (and some of that paper came off in patches)! I ended up having to re-mud all the walls in that room. Oddly enough, I really enjoyed that part. There’s something slightly sensual about that drywall mud – slathering it on with a trowel. I made it look kind of like plaster. Then I painted it a light shade of purple – closer to lavendar, really – because I’d heard that color promoted creativity. I might not have done that if I had known I was going to have to re-mud the whole thing, but I had already bought the paint on sale (hint: don’t do the sale thing until you are actually ready to paint). I really had fun in the closets with different techniques I didn’t want to try on the actual walls – even did checkerboards with sponge squares and tried bubble-wrap on one of the little walls. Hey, it all worked.
Sorry to drag on. . .

  2. Love you
    Big hugs
    Your life is your canvas.
Splash upon it all the paint you can
    while you can.

  3. I cannot wait to see pictures of what you’ve done and how you did it!
And I love grey! I think your end result will be delightful.

  4. These wonderful shades of blue, silver and grey add such depth and age to the cupboard and is perfect in the south of France where sunlight is unlimited… but do you not think it would be too sullen and dark here in the north? In the winter months I am always looking for ways to brighten the room.

PS ~ Hope Sasha is feeling better.

  5. Painting like a child; I know not of a better way. Wishing you fun to your heart’s content.

  6. I understand about the fingernails, but for the results I am sure they are worth destroying! Love your header pic, xv.

  8. Corey, your candor and attitude are fabulous. I salute you with my own paint covered hands.
    Lead on, inner child!

  9. nice thing about skin, is that it regenerates all the time. It’ll be no time at all before your current paint stained skin cells simply drop away to make room for new.
    You won’t be grey forever!!!
Oh … and nails grow too, so those will be back to new in no time as well. Then, if you choose, you can eat pizza the old fashioned way again. With ya hands!!!
    Bright blessings!

  10. I just know it’s going to look beautiful!

  11. I hope Sacha is on the mend.
You sound like you are having fun…are you using oil paint? Do you recommend gray/bluish nail polish 🙂
I must be eating everything in a stylish fashion…I use a fork and a knife for everything, including sandwiches and pizza…I do get looks in restaurants.

  12. Pat Paulk

Such a beautiful “baby” you are.

  13. Painting is a very time consuming job. Your patience must be unlimited, but the results of that patience will truly be worth it.

  14. I wish I was there to watch/help you! I love doing this stuff. I haven’t done any in a while but soon I’ll be repainting the inside of a whole house with some friends that we’ve purchased in an “at risk” neighborhood with all kinds of techniques! I’m excited. We’re waiting for Spring and all the other parts to come together before the final color goes on the walls.

  15. You Go, Corey! You inspire us to create & beautify, messy hands and all!!!

  16. Oh, Corey, how I wish I were still there. I love to paint and I follow instructions quite well………most of the time.
I sent my daughter photos of my downstairs “happy” bathroom and she loved it. I just love my daughter. She always knows what to say. :-p

  17. I can’t wait to see what your inner child created.
