In Memory

Tessa's father's house

In memory of Tessa's father.

May peace by yours.

Tessa wrote to tell me the news of her father.
Towards the end of the letter she wrote:
"I never asked about the well being of his fish because I did not want
to know. Now, I do.  I was afraid to know if they did not fair well….
I would have to lie or omit the truth to my father.  Somehow he never
asked me the questions either. How are they all?"
I wrote back, and at the end of my letter I added:
"The seven goldfish are happy."

  2. Though Tessa misses her father, she must know he is smiling right now. This story gives me a much needed lift Corey… because though alot of things are crazy in the world, its good to know how many good people are out there doing the small but important things that make life good. Thanks Corey

  6. It is after all, the small deeds that make a difference. You brought to mind a story of something very long ago. My grandmother gave me a silver leaf pin. The handmade clasp was broken. Regardless, my grandmother wore this all the time. I sent it back to Germany via my Godmother who took it to a cousin of hers to fix. When he saw the piece he got very quiet, so my godmother/aunt said. And with tears in his eyes he asked from where she got this and she told him that my grandmother’s granddaughter loves this piece, could it be fixed. He had made it for my grandmother when he was a very young man. When I wear it, I not only think of my grandmother, but of a cousin I’ve never met who knows that his piece is still being cherished.

  7. that made me tear up… beautiful

  8. Corey,
So so touching and so full of life. We become one with life, always…there is no separation at the end…just like when you went to cut the roses and you remembered what your father said to you..the happy goldfish are a flash for Tessa to grow even more…at the end we are all in the same beautiful pond…swimming.

  9. Deep sympathy to Tessa.

Goldfish and other small links that bind us together here and in God’s afterworld…I love the symbolism of the roses and the door open to another world.

  11. I am sure he can see them from where he is

  12. Dear Tessa,
My Poppy passed away almost 1 year ago. I miss my pal. I don’t want a year to have gone by. That racing time seems to trivialize and diminish the force of nature he was. The words you wrote in your earlier poem are the most gut bearing, beautiful, and truthful to the core memoriam I have ever hear. I wept at their honesty. Thank you for having courage of a capitol nature to write and me to feel a small ping of ease.
