Prague Back Streets and Underground

Prague under the bridge

Our goal for the day was to aimlessly walk throughout Prague, our biggest decision was whether to turn right or left at whatever crossroad we encountered. Prague is a manageable city on foot, plus the undeniable wealth of architecture and history never ceases to encourage one to walk just another block, and another… our feet where worn off somewhere on the opposite end of the city. When the sky subtly started to change, adding a new dimension of texture and color (I imagined that winter must be stunningly beautiful), we walked on heeding not the undeniable reality of rain.

Music poured up from the cobble stone sidewalk , bringing our attention to a funky restaurant nestled in a basement.. we went on down and sat along the bar as the tables were full (to me that is sure sign that a restaurant must be good).

The menu which offered everything under the sun and then some. Menus intimidate French Husband, he rarely reads them let alone picks something to eat, instead he leaves that task to me. I on the other hand, taste each word of a menu with detectable pleasure, licking up the possibility to select the different plates and decide where they will go when I see them come out from the kitchen.

Prague underground

As we ate at Bar Bar a refreshing cool breeze blew in through the street level windows, after the long hot day it seemed fitting to be underground, after wearing off our feet wandering through art galleries and strange off the beaten track places.

Somewhere between the cold beer, the Beatle's music playing and the
anchovy pasta it started to rain. We took it as a cue to order another
round of homemade, beer-batter, onion rings.

The rain did not stop, instead it teased us… or maybe in was the beer, or maybe it was the onion rings, but whatever it was, we felt the three elements teasing us to run back through the dark, abandoned streets to the hotel room.

So we did. Exhilarating! Soaking wet and laughing….

How wonderful to be so young and carefree again. Giggling teenagers, I can just see you both, cheeky grins and laughter.
It looks like you are both having so much fun together, I like the fact that you both love the same things and so can enjoy them together.

Another fabulous day, the unplanned spontaneous kind being the very best. The romance here is tangible Corey….Jx

  14. Corey – we’ve been following your fabulous trip as we continue on ours out here in the West. Sorry I’ve not had time to comment.
Had a marvellous visit with your sweet mom, Sacha, and the grandchildren. The shop is wonderful and your mom was so kind to take us home and feed us the best blackberry pie (still warm). I’ll be posting later on our visit to Willows.
Also visited Chris and Judy’s lovely home in Chico – they are so nice and had great refreshments waiting to cool us off – it was about 105 that afternoon! We were thrilled to meet up with them again – and left with a huge box of veggies from their garden…….best tomatoes ever!! More on that visit later also.
Heading from Missoula, MT to Boise, ID this morning – long drive but at least my backside is not as sore as yours!!! Your pics are lovely.
Enjoy every moment. Hugs, Bob, Mary & Jasmin.

  15. Romantic! Love the images you create with your words and pictures. The pictures of you under the bridge are wonderful.

  16. What a wonderful feeling of abandonment – just to be carefree for a few weeks! Something every one of us should do. I love the picture of you – both of them! The onion rings sound delish!

  17. I am so enjoying your daily postcards, Corey!
Thank you for bringing us along.

    I hear Prague beckoning many…

  22. You and French husband are having a fabulous trip, must be so lovely to be so close to one another.
I am loving this trip, following is so much fun 🙂

  23. I don’t care what had to be left out of your gear in order to pack that little black dress! C’est Perfect!

  24. Corey, Is someone checking on your friend Annie during your absence? She must be missing you terribly. Does she have Internet access — I’m not joking here, a rural relative of Farmboy Husband’s (she’s now 91) was among the first adopters of email I knew! — or could someone bring over a laptop to show her your daily blog posts from the trip? Oh, how I hope so!

  25. I absolutely enjoy this trip just as much as you! 🙂 I feel like I am there taking in every breath taking moment. Thank you blessing my day with your posts. P.S. The pictures of you are wonderful. 🙂 Blessings, Kimberly

  26. I love the photos of Prague Corey! I have never actually seen pictures from there even though my great-grandmother grew up there.Fabulous!

  27. Love it! What a great story you showed us.

  28. I loved that you just walked around “aimlessly” thats what I always want to do in a beautiful new city. My husband on the otherhand has to have a map. I learned that the hard way our first night in Paris. And, it ended with us both running back to our hotel laughing in the rain! Your story brought back memories.
    Safe Travels!

  29. Prague seems like a cool fairytale city. I’m so glad that you and FH are able to wander through the streets together. That photograph of you sitting by the river’s edge is cinematic, Corey! You’ll HAVE TO have that printed and framed!

Wow! Your photos of Prague have made me add a trip to this beautiful city to our dream retirement overseas holiday. My BIL has been to Prague on business a few times, and he told us how beautiful the city is, but until I saw your photos I just did not realize how true this is. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

These are truly gorgeous pictures. I agree, Prague is a must-see, but until I can get there, thanks for taking all of us along with you.
I HAVE to ask about the yellow penguins are they on top of a barge or bridge railing? I’m scrolling down, soaking in all the beautiful scenery and all of a sudden I see yellow penguins – how whimsical! I love it!

  33. Fantastique! The photos, the descriptions, the activities, the aimlessness, the travel, the togetherness. You rock, ma chère Madame!
