What did Amy-Doll have in those 13 boxes and does she have a shop?
The photos today show a fraction of the sort of French antiques that Amy-Doll collects: Ribbons, linens, charming postcards, music sheets, pharmacy boxes, spools of linen thread, bottles, medals, antique puzzles, military buttons, paper back books that date 1860 or so, picture frames, engravings, tarnished silver baby cups… You guessed it she likes to collect small romantic worn antiques of romance for the shop she plans to open. If you are interested in knowing more leave her a comment and she will contact you, her shop will be in Oregon.
How is Annie?
Annie is feeling much better. She is her self again: cooking, sewing and planning a trip to the seaside with her son and daughter in law.
Yesterday we gathered herbs in the garden behind her home. She will dry them and then store them away for the winter. She gathered mint, rosemary, fennel, and oregano.
Is Sacha home? What will you make him for dinner?
Sacha arrives this evening. He told me over the phone that he doesn't eat as much as before he left, "I think," he said, "that I am as tall as I am going to be, and since I am not growing, I am not as hungry."
We will wait to see about that.
His favorite food in all the world is pasta with butter and cheese.
I am a lucky Mom.
Where will Chelsea go to University?
Chelsea will go to CERAM in Nice. Yesterday French Husband went with her to sign up for her studio. The woman at the agency thought French Husband was Chelsea's boyfriend. I counted my lucky stars that I did not go with them. I know who she would have thought I was and I'm glad I did not have to hear it!
note: Being called Chelsea's mother would be wonderful. But being called her great grandmother or F.H.'s mother would not be.
Are you going to let your hair go natural?
No.
Friday is the day that the skunk line vanishes. My stylist (Sounds ultra chic that word!) who had a baby while keeping her skunk liners in wait is now doing house calls! Baby is coming too.
By noon tomorrow I will be renewed to fake blond status.
Why not let your hair go natural?
Because I would rather be called French Husband's older looking wife than his Mother…and yes it is true, and has happened more than I could count the full head of white hair on my head.
How are your neighbors, are they still teaching you patience?
The same loudness, without bunnies, daily.
The neighbors are at each other's throats most of the time. As it is summer our windows are open, though the volume of their insults would penetrate any barrier. At least I have learned a slew of French swear words.
I guess you could say they are as they are, a loud family.
We are coming to France and would like to know a good brocante market in Paris?
Porte to Vanves is my favorite market in Paris, every Saturday 5:30 to noon.
Can we take extra boxes full of brocante stuff back on the plane? You said Amy took 13 boxes??
Bring two large suitcase, a backpack a carry on, and a personal hand bag. In your hand bag pack your clothes and personal things. In your suitcases pack bubble wrap, newspaper for packing, boxing tape
to tape up shipping boxes and boxes for packing.
Then call the airlines you are flying with and ask them to give you the
exact size of the boxes you can bring, the weight of each box, and how
much extra boxes cost. With that information bring your own boxes
flattened in your suitcase. Also bring bungee cords and a fold-able
wheels to carry your boxes.
Amy's airline excepted two bags, plus one carry on. They were stuffed
with treasures. Each additional box cost $150, weight allowance 23
kilo, size measuring three sides 158 cm.
To post a box bought and prepaid at the post office (a box a little
larger than three shoe boxes cost 41 euro and cannot exceed 7 kilo.
How are you after the rage about the photos you posted the other day?
Reassured that I am not cut out to be a paparazzi.
Are you going to go to California this year to visit your family?
Yes. In fact several weeks ago I met a woman who reads my blog, Lynn is an antique dealer from Georgia. Her and her husband came over for dinner and we went antiquing for furniture, we had great fun.
Anyway Lynn has invited me to her home in Savannah, Georgia to help her do one of the largest antique fairs in the USA. We will drive her truck from Savannah to Houston, Texas and set up at the Marburger to do the Round Top Antique Fair. Afterward, I will fly home for a few weeks.
(Did I say I am excited?)
Are you going to be there too?
