Details of Perfect Moments and Things that caught my Eye

Marburger antiques

Over sized outdoor lantern with green apples.

Lynn's stand in Marburger received strong praise, I enjoyed every minute of our time spent together. It was hard work, thankfully there were many who helped.

We packed the trailer and truck under a downpour, we were drenched. The tent flooded, and mud was our pathway. It was kind of fun in all that nature craziness. Rainwater works wonders- My skin and hair feel very soft. After days of humid heat I can say: I am cold.

I felt terrible for the dealers… imagine carrying beautiful treasures through a storm and mud?

Readers of this little ole blog of mine, there must have been forty or so who came to visit! Thank you! How wonderful it was to meet so many of you! (Sorry Erin that I missed you!) Like a DING DONG I didn't think to take photos of all of you until the third or so day! Please forgive me.

I met Dancing Through Paris, Olga came to Lynn's stand. Olga was setting up in Marburger as well. She had beautiful pieces as well.

Liz Spradling, an antique dealer from Houston had been corresponding with me as she was buying antiques in France. When I found out that she was in Marburger too, I hoped I would meet her.

Liz Spradling Rare French antique leather panels

I happened upon Liz's stand and gasped. Before me were several original hand printed leather panels, used as wallpaper in the 16th and 17th century! I had only seen leather panels such as these once before… twenty years ago. I was so impressed I asked if I might meet the dealer. Low and behold it was Liz Spradling's stand.

Liz imports rare and one of a kind French Antiques, she knows her stuff.

Jenny

Friends who met me in Marburger, JennyN. and her family surprised me with a homemade Tex Mex lunch, it was delicious! We are waiting for the recipe in the comment section. Note the darn cute box she made!! Jenny also packed chilled Homemade Spanish wine coolers.

  17. Hello Corey!! I will say again what a pleasure it was to meet you. It is the gift of your blogging that I feel that I know you by your images and words so that when I met you “in the flesh” it was even better than I expected because of your friendly warmth and open nature. Lynn most certainly had a beautiful booth and I am sure she appreciated your help in the bad weather (that’s Texas October for you). Well here is the recipe (sorry it is lengthy, as I find it very easy to throw together)and I am so glad y’all liked it and I hope Lynn gets this.
    Baked Tex-Mex Eggrolls:
1pkg eggroll wrappers (I find them in the produce area, usually 20 per pkg)
    2 cloves garlic minced
    1 small onion diced
    1 tbsp oil
1.25 cup rinsed black beans (from a can)
    1.25 cup corn
    3 cups cooked Spanish rice*
1 can rotel tomatoes with chilis
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp cumin
    1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (your choice)
(My family’s eats the meaty option so I add 1lb.lean cooked ground taco seasoned meat (turkey, chicken or beef))
Heat oil in skillet (I use non-stick) and once hot add onion. Add garlic when onion is almost cooked make sure not to burn the garlic. (Add ground meat, warm through before adding rest of ingredients). Add beans and warm through, then corn, rice, tomatoes. Stir in salt, cumin, and chopped cilantro. Add more seasoning if needed. once all ingredients are well combined you are ready to assemble egg rolls.
Pre heat oven to 425. Spray baking sheet with olive oil spray. Put about 3 tbsp skillet mixture and top with 1 tbsp cheese per eggroll. (I went by rolling instructions on the eggroll pkg to get the folding down right.) Once all twenty are done spray tops with olive oil spray. Bake for 15-20 minutes and flip half way through so the wrappers don’t burn.
*Spanish rice recipe in case you don’t have a favorite:
1 cup white rice (I use Mahatma)
    1tbsp oil (I’ve used olive/canola/vegetable)
2 cups water (or chicken broth for more flavor)
4oz. tomato sauce (1/2 of the usual 8oz can)
    1/2 tbsp cumin
    salt pepper to taste
In a skillet heat up oil on med-high until hot and then add raw rice to brown. Stir constantly until the rice is evenly browned(about 3-5min) add 2 cups water/stock (watch out this will sizzle)stir and add tomato sauce, cumin and salt and pepper to taste. Taste the broth for seasoning and once it is as you like it cover rice and leave it on low heat to simmer for about 20 minutes until water is absorbed. I actually check half way through to see if I need to add any extra liquid. Once cooked set aside.
Another note: I always end up with quite a bit of filling left over and my family likes to reheat this the next day and eat it in a tortilla, over corn chips, or simply melt cheese on top as a mini Mex-cassarole. Enjoy.

  18. Loved Tamara’s necklace. Does she have a website, Corey?

  25. I just love that you got to meet so many of your readers. How fun is that?!
I’m so sorry that the rains came – I’m unclear if the show had already closed before the skies opened up or did the rain come during the show???
That gives me the willies thinking of all those beautiful things under skies that are unloading a downpour on them!
I’m sure you’re busy being enveloped in familial hugs and kisses right now. Wishing you a wonderful time catching up!
Oh! I got such a kick out of seeing a recipe for Tex Mex eggrolls on your blog – can’t wait to try it, Jenny! 🙂

  26. linda marcov

There are no words to describe what it was like spending time with you these past few days…. each of us chattering non-stop, sometimes not able to finish sentences, but oh well we had covered the core of our discussion… only a few times in a life time are we graced with such a strong connection, and to know it was returned is simply a wee bit overwhelming… thank you so much for doing the favor for Ludmils daughter, you can’t know what that means to him… we WILL see you sooner than you think… much love Linda

  27. Rebecca in in Pacific NW

I rarely comment but couldn’t resist. I tried my darnedest to get a central texan friend to come see you (in addition to your own friends via the blog.) Your photos gave such a flavor of that incredible event, all except the tired feet from walking those 13 or so miles…
I would have come to say hi, but I’m up here in Washington state now!
Has it really been 13 months since you saw all your California crew? Time flies.
    regards,
    Rebecca

  28. Hello Sally, your site is so wonderfully full of creative outlets, oh, my. Thanks for the shout out and yes, it is odd for a Tex-mex recipe to make it on her chic French site. Enjoy the eggrolls.

  29. Dear Corey,
Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to meet you and spend time with you, I feel so blessed.
    You are a treasure!
    OXOX-Mari
