  2. One of my favourite books to read is Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. It was the first book I can remember being read to me, the first book I read myself, and the first book I read to my Godson chapter by chapter. It’s not a grown-up’s book, but I’ll read it throughout adulthood, if only to remember how it felt to be tucked up in bed with my Dad doing the voices!
At the risk of sounding like a teacher’s pet, I only read your blog, so I can’t put anything else here!
    Much Love,

Favorite blog-YOURS handsdown!!! I know you are not asking for that as an answer, but I read many blogs and most seem to lack sincerity and depth. Yours is always honest, enlightening and fresh. My coffee and I never had it so good! Thanks

  10. Charlotte Le Den

    1) I can’t just put one! I’m re-reading for the 1000000th time “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austin… Take me to Pemberly Mister Darcy!!!!!!!!!!! And anything by Bill Bryson, though especially “A short Story of Nearly Everything”

She is so enjoying life and shares it with others.

  12. Good morning from Maine Corey,
My favorite book is usually the one I am currently reading – right now it is “Wind, Sand, and Stars” by Antoine De Saint Exupery, a french aviator. It is pure poetry on the subject of flying. He also wrote “Le Petit Prince” which amazingly I haven’t read… yet.
    http://www.amazon.com/Stars-Antoine-Lewis-Galantiere-Exupery/dp/B001ALQZSE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258631643&sr=8-2
Tongue in Cheek is one of two blogs I read/view every morning… the other is http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/
I used to be a stylist of sorts and now I live in rural maine so this keeps me in touch with the streets of the world. I’ve always been interested in how people dress themselves rather than what is shown in the stores and magazines.
I enjoy scandinavian and japanese blogs because the images are so beautiful and since I can’t always read the writing I can blow through a whole bookmarked list pretty quickly just looking at the pictures…

  13. Twinkleberry

My favorite book is “Imaginings of Sand” by Andre Brink, a blog I like to read … apart from yours……http://moroccanmaryam.typepad.com/my_marrakesh/

  14. What a strange coincidence in you asking about favourite books, Corey! Yesterday I had just finished reading a wonderful book that I just couldn’t put down – especially as there were no chapters. Deirdre Madden’s “Molly Fox’s Birthday” is my new favourite & was shortlisted for the 2009 Orange Prize.
And your blog is my favourite blog – the only one that I like to be surprised by, when I get a chance to read it. Have a wonderful week!

My second favorite blog is A CUP OF JO.
Thanks for making my mornings so nice.

  19. Dear Corey,
Although I am not sure this is a book as much as it is a “poem”, my absolute favorite story of the human experience is “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran (a must-read is the chapter about children.) You can read it here: http://www.katsandogz.com/gibran.html
Ater checking in with “Tongue In Cheek” I go to http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/

Right now I am longing to read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It is sitting along with her others on my shelf and I am as excited as a cat watching a squirrel out the window for the Masterpiece Theater production about her life to air this December.
I read your blog every day, and a few decorating blogs and gardening blogs, my childrens’ blogs, but I would like to nominate a “green mama” who is at traceybianchi.com/ (sorry, it won’t highlight). 42. Oh. Wow. This give away is SOOO me! :o) I have to HAVE to enter. OK. Breathe.
I have trouble choosing my favorite book, but when anyone asks I always return to “Memoirs From Antproof Case,” by Mark Helprin. If you haven’t discovered him yet, run NOW to the library and check it out. Anything of his but the Winter’s Tale. That was beautifully written as only MH can, but it was a bit overly allegorical, at least for my taste. “Memoirs from Antproof Case” and “Soldier of the Great War” are great. MH spins language out of his pen like a musician draws music from a bow. (How’s that for linking the giveaways together!)
Blog? Hmn. I read yours, of course, (blatant brown nosing, yes! LOL). I also love www.theinternalmakeover.com and www.natthefatrat.com Excellent writers, both.
Now can I dust your bookshelves? Take out your trash? Clean your fridge? :oD

  46. Hi Corey. Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre…wonderful descriptions of early 19th century English landscape, as well as “the drama”. Le Divan Fumoir Bohemien is just so full of treasure (I’ve spent more time in her archives than any other blog, it’s helping my French) http://florizel.canalblog.com/

  63. This may sound silly but one of my favorite books is “The Color Kittens” by Margaret Wise Brown. It is a children’s book about color. When I first read it at 4 years old I knew then that I wanted to be an artist mixing colors just like the two green eyed kittens, Brush and Hush. They use their buckets of paint to make all the colors in the world! My childhood copy is in my studio and on occasion I have a cup of tea and reread it reliving the magic of mixing colors.
Aside from Tongue in Cheek I read The Feathered Nest everyday. Dawn is just delightful and such a generous and sharing spirit. I adore her style of art too!

  72. I remember not so many years ago when I asked the question,,,”blog, what’s a blog?”
That is when I started following yours, and I learned after a year about commenting…maybe I am slow. I do know you were there and gave me strength when I left home, because you left home,,and you gave me strength through your experience. We have emailed about this before. I do not comment as much anymore, so many blogs, I would not get anything done. I do still “have” to read your blog however, and I am never disapointed. I read http://acottageindustry.typepad.com/ most every day. The Mitford series by Jan Karon, was the last books I inhaled.
I hope you are well today and it sounds like you are happy.
    Love

    http://lovelypaper.blogspot.com

  80. 1. My favorite books are of course the ones I’ve translated — because, short of writing one’s own books, that’s a great way to get to know a book intimately.
One of the most interesting books I’ve read that I did NOT translate, however, is the English translation of the Brazilian novel “The Strange Nation of Rafael Mendes” by Moacyr Scliar — fascinating subject matter (a fictionalized, at times magical-realist, account of centuries of Portugal’s hidden Jews who survived the Inquisition) in a superb English rendering.
    2. http://floresazores.blogspot.com
Considering only English-language blogs, I always look forward to the latest posts on “At Flores in the Azores,” by (as they characterize themselves) “two lawyers from Edinburgh, Scotland (UK) retired to the island of Flores in the Azores” — because three of my great-grandparents were from either the same village where they’ve settled or the neighboring one (both on the remote west coast of the Azores’ westernmost island!), as well as because the bloggers view their adopted village and island from an outsider’s perspective (as do I), and write with wit and aplomb.

  81. Oh, Corey this is a CRAZY good idea of yours. I have jotted readers recommendations and concurred with many in their love for Ms. Jane Austen (she was sex and the city before the sex) but my teenage moody romance phase was well met with

  82. http://lemoulinaeau.blogspot.com
Another English-language blog that Corey and other Francophiles here might enjoy is
“Le Moulin: Life in the French Alps” by yet another expatriate Scottish attorney (friend of the aforementioned ones who decamped to the Azores) and her English engineer hubby.
(Goodness, you don’t suppose there’s getting to be a lawyer shortage in Edinburgh nowadays, do you?)
