Christmas List

A few of you have sent me an email asking me to answer 25 things about Christmas. I thought I might as well put it on my blog. If you want you can answer them too in the comment section. Copy and paste, the 25 questions or a few of them, erase my responses and answer your own.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both, with ribbons that I keep year
after year.

2. Real tree or artificial?  Fake.

 

3. When do you put up the tree?  Around the 15th of December.


 4. When do you take the tree down?  Twelve or so days after Christmas…a day or two after
Epiphany.

 

 

5. Do you like eggnog? Love it and miss it as
I cannot find it in France. I have made it , but actually I do not miss the
calories.

 

6. Favorite gift received as a child?  A Mickey Mouse watch

 

7. Hardest person to buy for?  Someone I do not know.

 

8. Easiest person to buy for? My daughter, her
list helps.

 

9. Do you have a nativity scene?  Yes, it is called a creche in French
and the nativity is an entire village of « Little Saints » called
Santons.

 

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Neither. How bad is that!

 

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I
know I should be grateful for every gift received. I know it is the thought
that counts…. But when the thought is « Paper Napkins »  and everyone else received a gift
certificate of a hearty sum of
money…well…. I did not appreciate the thought, nor the gift.

 

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?  Prancer

 

13. When do you start shopping for
Christmas?  December 15th or so. I
like the rush.

morning? Christmas eve … but when I was a child I use to open all my gifts before Christmas and
re-wrapped them. I still do that sometimes… my family knows that about me. So
they hide my gifts.

 

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the
year? That in the USA Christmas  decorations
appear in October.

 

23. Favorite ornament ? I love opening
the Christmas boxes and welcoming the little ole friends, retelling stories
about the ornaments… my favorite one is a red and white polka dotted glass
mushroom.

 

24. Do you make Christmas cookies ? No…
but I do make a Christmas log cake.

    Both but not many (only to my foreign friends). In this country (France) we rather send cards for the New Year in January. Mail and e-mail.

    I bought a creche at a vide grenier this summer but as yet only have 3 very tacky santons left in the bottom of the box.

    Lots, vintage glass baubles from my parents, different angels acquired down the years, a chinese baby in a basket, little sparkly birdies, a santa that K chose in Germany, I always buy something new each year. Keith has his own tree of hearts – I have brought him one for every year we have been together and is own little wire tree to hang them.
    24. Do you make Christmas cookies ? No… but I do make a Christmas log cake.
    Yes ginger ones to ice & hang on the tree. I have never made the cake or pudding.

    Aside from all the big important angel wishes; cashmere & a new perfume I have fallen for – most unusual for me as I hate most perfume !

    13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I always pick up the staples (underwear, pjs, socks, etc.) in the after-Thanksgiving sales, but I do the rest of the Christmas shopping as soon as We’re on Christmas break…and I can breath a bit and enjoy it!
    14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No.
    15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Sugar cookies. They’re our breakfast food for the month of December.

    18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home…though we do go to both grandparents house every Christmas day.

    21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas day. We used to let the kids open one after church on Christmas eve, but now that they’re bigger and their gifts are more expensive…it’s all on Christmas morning.

    1.Wrapping paper or gift bags? Gift wrap, try to reuse but sometimes the inlaws look at me funny for refolding and keeping the wrap.
    2. Real tree or artificial? Fake, but have balsam fir in a fabric pouch I keep out so it smells real.

    5. Do you like eggnog? I Love Egg Nog! Just wish I could find it without High Fructose Corn Syrup.

    21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? When I was a kid we celebrated Reveillon and opened gifts after midnight mass and had a meal after (mmm tortiere). with my hubby and son, we open gifts in the morning.
    22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? That people forget it’s all about being together, being healthy and happy…not about how much you spent or how many gifts under the tree. And really, does anyone actually buy anyone a car for Christmas? I would be SO mad if hubby did that to me!
    23. Favorite ornament ? Memere’s blown glass ornament with the paint starting to chip off. it must be 100 years old. (she’s been gone for 38 years and it was old then)
    24. Do you make Christmas cookies ? Yes and caramels and toffee and breads, oh my!
    25. What do you want for Christmas this year ? for Emmanuel Moires’ new CD to be available here in the US without costing me $40 to buy it!

  14. I love old christmas movies. Its a Wonderful Life, Christmas in Conneticut, The Bishops Wife.
    What a good idea Honey Do’s, I could sure use some of those for Christmas.

  15. No room for a tree here, Christmas bags whenever possible, decorations (nativity set, some special ornaments) go into storage the day after Christmas. Presents opened Christmas Eve. Cards sent only to friends out of the country. Miracle on 39th St-the Natalie Wood original version, worst gift-homemade bloomer type underwear from a relative. Best gift ever was from Dad; an emerald and diamond ring that I’d wanted for ages. Of course I wish and hope for good health and happiness for me and all my friends and family. If there was extra room for a wish it would be round trip ticket to visit France.

  17. I won’t answer all of the list, but we do go to a tree farm each year, pick out the tree, they cut it for us, load it in the car, and off we go with a real tree. I love the Santons and someday would love to have the creche in my home too. Maybe a set on your website would be lovely. There is an antique small trumpet tied with a gold bow to the top of my tree this year. It also changes from year to year, but I sort of like this one and may keep it to do in the next years.
    I also had a chuckle over the paper napkins. How sad! But a Mickey Mouse watch is the very best.

    3. When do you put up the tree? last weekend, but it’s not decorated yet. We can’t decorate til my husband puts up the lights, he does it just right.

    No. 19…..actually it’s Donder not Donner…but I always said Donner too…
    No. 6….I,too, got a Mickey Mouse watch with a red band…it was great…until I gave it to my son who put it in his pocket and did’t remove it until I washed it in washing machine…he was about 5 yrs old and I was old enough to know better…
