The power of blogging. Four years ago when I started to blog I told my childhood friend Shelley (who has A.L.S.) that I had a new discovery for her that she was going to love. Because of her illness Shelley is completely paralyzed yet can move one finger…. enough to use it on the mouse pad. Each and everyday her husband, Eric baths, feeds and dresses Shelley sits her in the living room and before he leaves for work he places her hand on the mouse pad… Shelley surfs the world of blogs.
If a blog has to do with home decoration, country design, mixed media, crafts, children/family, the joy of life, color, hope, faith– Shelley knows it. Her blog roll is a couple of miles long.
Blogging, or in Shelley's case surfing the net is something that opens the world to her– It takes the expression, "The World at your Fingertips" have new meaning. Shelley finds inspiration, creative energy, laughter and all her Christmas gifts online.
Shelley cannot type, leaving a comment is impossible… yet everyday she checks on her blog roll and is inspired.
The last time I was home (October) Shelley was preparing for Christmas. She had sourced supplies through the net and her husband Eric was putting her ideas to form. Eric is Shelley's hands: He sized a frame under her guidance, painted it cranberry red from a color chip she found online, arranged and re arranged the small trinkets (she had found on ETSY) the way Shelley wanted them onto the painted backboard, and then sealed them together onto the frame.
Their love is enviable!
…to think Shelley was preparing for Christmas in October and mine is
still under the stairwell. The luxury of time, and an able body does
not mean things get done faster or better, the bottom line is one has
to have passion to live the life you want.
I am going to put up our Christmas tree, really I am..
The picture frame says: Merry Christmas, Santa's Toys, December 25. Each and every trinket she found online.
Just because Shelley's body stopped moving does not mean that her energy stopped. Shelley lives her passion for family, traditions, decorating and creating by adapting herself to what she can do and not focusing on what she cannot do.
I am sure Shelley would tell me to get my rear in fast gear…. or maybe she would tell me to have Christmas under the stairs!
