Where to Stay in France: Part One

You know the saying, "If I had a penny for every time someone asked
me…. I would be a very rich person."

Paris-eiffel-tower

Well if I had a penny for every time someone asked me information about
France: The best Brocante, Where to Stay, What to do, What to eat…. I
would be richer than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet combined.

Orange-eiffel-tower-paris

Although the pennies have not follow, friendship and the delivery of
chocolate chips have. I consider myself very rich nonetheless. The next
time someone wants information about France: What brocante to go to, or
where to stay, I am going to send them to today's post.

Below you will find information links about France. If you have any
ideas, thoughts, tips, addresses, links, posts or a secret or two that
you would like to share regarding: Where to stay in France, where it eat,
where to stay, what to see…or whatever regarding France, please leave
your suggestions in the comment section.

  1. I’ll be saving this (and hoping to someday return to France). I took your suggestion on where to stay in Prague last year and we loved it! How is the new space coming along? PS – if you ever find yourself in Phoenix, I know the perfect place for you to stay…at my house! You would be a very very welcome guest.

  2. Corey,
Do you remember the name of the restaurant we went to with your cousin and her husband? It was the one that we went to where we had to wait for the woman to open it up and she assigned us a seat next to those heavy smokers who were blowing smoke in your cousin’s face? Do you recall what I’m talking about? If so, and if you remember the name, list that one. I have a friend who is going to France and wanted to give the name of the place so he could go to it. THANKS!!

  3. thanks for sharing!! We know if it comes from you we will love it! Hope to see you in the fall as my plans have changed a bit. I too welcome you in MN anytime but right now it is frozen solid – not great unless you love to skate:)

Hotel Verneuil in Paris is my favorite.
And a 3 bed/3 bath house called Maison Rose in St. Jean de Cole in the Dordogne owned by an American couple living nearby. You feel like you are living in a movie/fairy tale/issue of Architectural Digest when you stay there. Email me at amandakhines@gmail.com if you want a pdf with photos and contact info for the owners.

  5. Hotel Champs de Mars in Paris is a great boutique hotel, well located, very charming, delightful hosts and well priced. We love staying there.

  6. I wish I knew of this blog before I had come to Paris!! Thanks I am printing everything out and placing in a Paris folder for hopefull a next time! Thank you Grace

  7. Fantastic list! Now I just have to get to France to take advantage of it! I actually had a dream last night that I was visiting you with my extended family. Strange, I know. Very hospitable of you to host random strangers dreams!

  8. I only got to spend one day in Paris. If I ever get back there, I will have this list in my back pocket! – Cheers, Kathy

  9. ★thank u for this…..!!★

  10. “Insider” information is always so nice. Thanks for sharing! You know, for the next time I got to Paris JUST FOR ME, thank you very much!

I went to a great flea market in the city of Lille..It was in early Sept. The whole city is like one big flea market where people set up outside their apartments and dealers are set up in the street…It is a riot with many people, crowded and crazy…I got very lost, many times but ended up with alot of great stuff..

  12. We stayed in a wonderful 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment just steps from the Hotel St Merry. The Marais is in the center of Paris, steps away from several metro stops and easy walking distance to the Lourve, Notre Dame and much more. You can find apartments in just about every arrondismont thru sites like VRBO (vacation rentals by owner) and feel like a real resident of Paris. We had a full kitchen, a small grocery store a block away and a boulangerie across the street. So convenient!

  13. Thanks for posting about this! My husband and I are trying to find a home exchange in Paris this summer. We want to simultaneously swap with someone’s flat in Paris for our downtown Seattle condo. Another idea for those looking to travel there. I’ve been to Paris before, this will be my husband’s first time.

How is the office coming along? Crossing the big pond is on my list to do! But I think it will take many trips because my list is LONG hoping when the girls get older. For now I am satified see all the National Parks and the girls love it too. This summer we are headed off to visit Glacier National Park!
    Have a great weekend Corey!

  15. Corey this is fabulous. and should that glorious day come again when we are able to take another trip to Beloved France I will send you a buck for 100 tips (heehee). With possible inflation by that time let’s make it two bucks. I kid because I love. This is great and like Grace above I am copying this info into my dream travel file….thank you. Here are my few experiences:
    1. Normandy, so lovely. We stayed at Honfleur (Ahhh) at highly recommend B&B La Cour Sainte Catherine (http://www.giaglis.com/GB_maison.htm)
    2. In the Loire Valley we found several ideal house rentals (gites) at Gite.com (http://www.gite.com/la-caltiere) the one at the web address is where we stayed and we were very pleased.
    3. In sweet Paris we rented an apartment in Montmartre, 5 minutes away from Sacre Coeur church, in the homey neighborhood with Perfectly Paris.com (http://www.perfectlyparis.com/Caulaincourt%20Charm.html)It was wonderful and we would stay with them again.

  16. corey,
you told me this summer about la louisiane. do you remember? i stayed there on my quick stay in paris after i had been in italy.
it was small, charming, simple, clean and a great price!

  17. How can you do this to me? It will YEARS before I can go to France again. Oh well, I’m sure I will still be reading your blog. And when I do make the trip, I will bring you chocolate chips. And tortillas!
P.S. I love your blog so much, I linked to it on my own. 😉

  18. I wonder…did you ever find your wedding ring?

  19. Write a book and sell it on your blog. It doesn’t have to be hardback. I could have some of your photos and insider tips.
I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

  20. Love this post! My last trip was actually in Paris. I did not pay for any accommodations at all since I did a home swap through http://www.RoofSwap.com I had a gorgeous apartment overlook the Effiel Tower. If there are other ways to save on travel accommodations, this would be it!

  21. My family stayed in a quaint hotel with a little courtyard. We loved the old look & the girls hung out of the windows to talk to my husband & I while we were in the courtyard having some alone time! It was the Hotel Parisiana on 21 rue de Chabrol. I loved Paris! Pam
