Bits of Blue throughout Provence

An old blue van by the farm house. The vines have been cut, the wood will be burned in the pizza oven.

Faded provençal blue shutters on the hostel in St Baume.

In the distance the mountain that Cezanne painted over and over again. In the many years that I have lived in Provence I have rarely seen it look the same two days in a row. A masterpiece called St. Victoire.

  1. When I think of the names of each month…I see colors. For me, March has always been blue! What a lovely post, indeed!
Happy March, Corey! Spring is just around the corner!

Spring is coming. There is no blue like the provencal blue huh ? Funny how the mountain is never the same. The sea is like that too isn’t it ? Blue is one thing of course but Im a green girl and I have almond green shutters dancing before my eyes, Luv Jxx

  7. The blues of Provence are unforgettable. I remember sitting outside at dinner in the evening and watching the sky turn an indescribable deep blue color like I’ve seen nowhere else. There is something about the light in Provence …
    Beautiful photos!

  8. I especially love Annie’s blue vest and the healing heart. Very pretty indeed. I think it’s interesting that The Little Red Shop sees colors when they hear the names of each month – I’ve never heard that before, very cool. I”m going to close my eyes now and try to imagine what color each month is to me. Fun.

  9. Ladelle’s pictures bring to life what Peter Mayle has written.

  10. After living in Bermuda for three months, some years ago, I remember the first thing I noticed arriving back in Toronto, was…grey. Compared to the vivid blues, gentle pinks, and lustrous greens of Bermuda, my home appeared so bleak. I sense the same is true of France….colour at every turn!

  11. We were touched time and time again by the blue in Provence. We drove miles to visit Lectoure hoping to buy woad paint for touches on our house only to find them closed. We will order by mail the woad paint. I took many pictures similar to yours of blue shutters and touches of blue. We loved it especially in Provence.

  12. So beautiful! You’ve definitely captured the “French Blue.”

  16. What beautiful pictures to start my day. The colours are so inspiring. It makes me want to paint something blue. That orange also really grabbed my eye. I will save orange for another month later in the year. Thank you Corey for my morning dose of sheer pleasure.

  17. After returning from a trip to Provence a few years ago, I painted my two 8 foot wood gates that lead into my garden “Provence Blue”. They evoke wonderful memories every time I look at them.

  29. Corey, how beautiful!
Thank you. I think blue is everyones favorite color . I wonder so much about you, about the people of France. Are they all employed? How do they get jobs? Do they have to go into the family business to have a job? How many children do they have? What’s the propaganda on birth control? abortion? Is everyone Catholic? Are there many Jews? Do you have to wait in line everywhere? I could ask you a million more……. sorry.
