Breakfast with Chocolate

Breakfast-with-chocolate

Breakfast with chocolate is equivalent to "Breakfast at Tiffany's"

fore-go the beautiful gown and the hair that is.

I won't show you what I wore this morning…

Breakfast with my newfound love… an antique hot chocolate pot… I could just lick it up.

Ah, French morning….the brocante is Tiffany's to me.

The diamonds are the French pastries, the rubies are the napkins, the pearls are the teacups, the golden sparkle is the atmosphere early in the morning when the dealers set up,
the simmering silver is the feeling I have when a treasure is found.

"How could someone sell their family's chocolate pot? A pot that is over a hundred years old and has seen more breakfast with chocolates than I will ever know?" I said out loud though talking to myself.

French Husband asked, "Are you going to sell it?"

"Probably," I said as I poured myself another cup.

"Well then you are like them…" he said between bites.

"No, I am not… I'm sharing."

We drank our chocolate while starring at the little fat chocolate pot.

"Isn't it just too cute?" I murmured.

Many of you asked me for my hot chocolate recipe. It is located on the right-hand side of my blog in the My Recipe Section…

I wrote about it years ago.

Hot chocolate like nothing you have ever tasted.
In a sauce pan pour four cups of fresh whole milk.
Add a drop of pure vanilla,
and 200 grams of dark baking chocolate
sugar to taste.

Cook on low heat, let it cook slowly, stir.
After about fifteen minutes or twenty the chocolate will start to thicken, do not boil.
You may add a flavoring to enhance the chocolate, I have tried:
-Fresh mint
-Vanilla
-Coffee
-Cinnamon
-Chili
Pour it into two large chocolate bowls when the chocolate is as thick as you like it.

Add a dollop of cream to the top.

  1. It is too cute. I have a Laura Ashley tea set that was probably patterned off of something like this. The colors of the flowers are the same. Each cup is a little unique. I don’t use it often enough. Thanks for the inspiration.

    If only it could talk…
Now Cher Corey, do you have a recipe for that gorgeous hot chocolate?

  3. Gina Johnson

I just took my husband to Angelina’s last week in Paris for their rich and thick hot chocolate. We left with little chocolate mustaches under our noses.

  4. I want a little chocolate pot and I want to curl up and watch
Breakfast at Tiffany’s on this rainy Saturday. Delicious!

  5. Too Cute. I think like your FH — How could you give it up? Mine broke in a house move a while back. It brings back sweet memories of when my boys were young and enjoyed having cups of hot chocolate.
But then again we cannot keep all the found treasures or else we would not be able to get into our house —

I still don’t understand why French Women Don’t Get Fat….

I’ve never used one. It looks wonderful. I want everything in the photos (as always). Most especially, I want the french pastry, which this, allergic to gluten, girl can not have. The saving grace is, I can have the chocolate, which looks delicious. Yes, please share your recipe.

  8. I love the lines on the spout and the end of the handle..cute shape!

  9. oh no Corey.. that is one precious choc pot.. and beautiful too.. your hubby is right.. don’t sell, that is one hard pot to get!

Such a true gem and filled with liquid gold!

It really is wonderful. Think long and hard before selling. I have a new white porcelain “Pillivuyt” chocolate pot that a very good friend gave me for Christmas one year. I love it. Yours certainly has the charm factor going for it.

  12. Hot Chocolate is one of my all time favorite drinks! I’m crazy about the chocolate pot. I hope you never sell it! Hopefully I’ll be eating breakfast in France with you one day…and we can drink chocolate for together!!!!

  13. What a sweet treat first thing in the morning for this ol’ gal! Breakfast at Tiffany’s and hot chocolate in this magnificent pot. Thank you for sharing breakfast, a little bit of Holly Golightly, aka Audrey Hepburn, and for the good example that you set of using these Brocante treasures – even if once in awhile one gets broken.

  14. Marci Larsen

I love it. Don’t sell it, but if you do –
    sell it to ME.

  15. Brenda L from TN

Nooooo, Corey…FH is right….don’t sell it, they are too hard to find. Whenever I find something unusual or buy something at auction that’s different or hard to find…I keep it…then later if I see more of same, I sell it. So unless you come across more of same, KEEP IT…

  16. Your chocolate pot is beautiful. My grandfather’s cousin painted a set of Haviland china and gave it to me when I was 11 years old. It has a nice chocolate pot that I’ve never used and now this inspires me to do so. Love that Holly Golightly! Great video, thanks!

Sarah a/k/a “Baby Chou” in Savoie, France, posted the following gourmet Hot Chocolate recipe on her blog on Jan. 14. I haven’t tried it yet, as it sounds too sinful, but perhaps I’ve now gotten the inspiration I need.
    http://atasteofsavoie.blogspot.com/2010/01/churros-and-hot-chocolate.html
    HOT CHOCOLATE (Serves 6-8)
250 g dark chocolate, chopped (ideally 70% cocoa solids or higher)
    300 ml milk
    1 tsp ground cinnamon, optional
Combine the chopped chocolate, milk and cinnamon, if liked, in a large heavy-based saucepan and stir over moderate heat until the chocolate has melted. Whisk the mixture till frothy and keep hot chocolate on a low heat or set over boiling water before serving.

  18. Beautiful! Love the colors also. I’d keep it for a while at least! : )

Hi Coco by name & coco by nature today. That post takes some beating ! Breakfast with chocolate and the anticipation of a French Broccante, sounds like heaven to me expecially in the company of my special friend. My absolute heaven ! jx

  20. It is too cute, of course it is. I would have a difficult time parting with it. I am thinking French women don’t get fat because everything is in moderation. They must savor to occasion with just a small taste or sip. And here I am gobbling it all up. Love the chocolate pot.

  21. Oh TICA, don’t sell it. It wants to stay on your table.

  22. Thank you for sharing the opening for Breakfast at Tiffanys, along with your breakfast moment. The multimedia (music, visual), I could totally drink in your blog (forgive the pun!). Thank you for giving me a lovely moment as well. Enjoy!

  23. Virginia

Oh, don’t sell it..however, if you MUST, Texas would make a very happy home!!! How I love to visit France via YOU!

  24. Mmmmmmmm! What to have for breakfast… I think I know now!

  25. Cheryl ~ Casual Cottage Chic

Sweet chocolate pot! I have a vintage French enamelware chocolate pot but don’t dare to use it; looks lovely perched on an open shelf in the kitchen with my vast collection of French enamelware biggins 😉

  26. Natalie Thiele

Mmmmmmm. That chocolate recipe sounds delicious. I thought you once said you didn’t care for chocolate. Maybe you meant for dessert.
Darling chocolate pot, so round and animated. Looks like it could dance around the table serving hot chocolate to everyone.

Death by chocolate…following which, the portly little chocolate maker tumbled from the victim’s hand, living on, in it’s cheerful floral jacket, only to kill again….no arrests will ever be made!

  28. Ah the simple pleasures. That is my kind of breakfast! I hope the two of you had a great day together.

  29. That IS a cute chocolate pot, Corey. Breakfast is certainly an experience at your place. Lucky FH to be served chocolate with pastries first thing in the morning! Thank you for the delicious recipe, too.

  30. I didn’t know you had recipes on the sidebar! I’ll be over in a minute…
and I have to say that the thought of adding chili to our hot chocolate is very intriguing!

  31. Shelley Noble

The cutest ceramic on earth, Corey! But please check it before using it more…It has the base color/look of old ceramics that were unfortunately mixed with lead for health ignorant reasons. Do you have those cheapie lead test swabs in the shops there? If not I’ll mail you one just to be sure.

  32. Corey, how sweet! The chocolate pot is a real treasure! And what fun to see the beginning of Breakfast @ Tiffany’s! Need to see it again!
    Ciao! Sherry

  33. This is how my mom makes our chocolate :)(except she uses hershey’s kisses in ours!)
