Paris Postcards Continue….

Chez-paul
Photos and Text by: Corey Amaro

Over twenty years ago French Husband and I lived in Paris. We were newlyweds with no money. Every happy anniversary, or birthday, and the day we found out we were going to have a baby, we celebrated by going to Chez Paul's for dinner. It was a mom and pop's restaurant, around the corner from were we lived. The cheapest thing on the menu was vegetable soup, and house wine.

Last night we went to Chez Paul's for dinner. It was crowded, as usual, the waiter asked if we had reservations, we hadn't. As we were about to walk out the door I turned around and said, "I am so glad to see you are still here, we use to come here often twenty years ago, it seems as nothing has changed, I like that… we live in Marseille now… " with a few more words, nods, and smiles… sweet begging… the waiter said, "Oh come on in, I want to make you happy!"

We were very happy. We had soup, house wine, fish, and three desserts.

be still my heart…it felt like being home again."

like to see what the stylish French women in haute couture fashion are

these days?" Asked Kathy.

"They do, casual chic really well, they can wear jeans and high heels and look like a million dollars" said the Paris Postcard.

Paris-wedding

Lilly, we were walking the streets in Paris, when the church bells started ringing, then the church doors opened and out came a wedding party! I snuck into the crowd and took this photo for you since you said, "I

  1. When I was in Paris many years ago, I stayed in the 7th and discovered Rue Cler. Such a cute street with a boulangerie with warm chocolate croissants, fromagerie, chocolatier, fresh roast chickens. Not sure where you’re staying or if you’d be back in that area, but I did so love that quaint little street.

  2. jend’isère

Since today is Europe Day, why not a card displaying how European Paris can be?
Paris is so….Paris, but not always so typically French with all of its international flavour.
    PS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe_Day

  3. A chic little parisian dog being walked by his/her very chic mistress…
    and.. the food! 🙂

  4. Oh Corey – this has been such a treat! Although I can never get enough of the flowers in Paris or people-watching in a cafe, I wonder if you could snap a picture of some fresh baked bread?
And if you happen to see some ribbons.. yes I love ribbons.
Or maybe something pink, no green, or that beautiful soft blue.
And then there are the lovely metro stations… the markets, the brocante!
    Sacre Couer…
Ah… there is just too much! I hope you are not just seeing Paris this time through your camera. Make sure you put it down and be a part of it too.
Maybe another visit in the future I’ll be able to ask for a photo of me…
    Happy Mother’s Day, Corey!

  5. Thank you so much for the picture of the sail boats in the fountain! It brought back wonderful memories. What an exquisite
city. It’s only 4:30am in California but I couldn’t wait to see your beautiful pictures. Thank you so much!

  6. I am sitting here in bed on Mother’s Day morning while my 2 children and my niece and nephew are in the kitchen creating breakfast for my sister and i…what a treat!
A Paris Postcard of french schoolchildren (in uniform of course) would be lovely……
    Happy Mother’s Day Corey!

  7. Even the grillwork in the bicycle stand is art! Of course, all made even more inviting by your photography. You already gave me flowers, but, could I ask for a steamy cup of coffee for Mother’s Day?The one in my cup right now is lacking that certain something that a Parisian cafe would bring.

Have just caught up with your 2 day Paris retrospective Corey. Wonderful ! Surely the most photographed city in the world and often in a cliched way, you manage to breathe life into your pictures and really get to the heart of the real Paris. Now talking of Paris and cliches, I have a soft spot for Brasserie Lipp. I have had all sorts of memorable times there: once I fell off my shoe and broke my food on the way in. My father carried me in, the waiter brought gin & tonic & an ice pack and yes “there really was a handsome French Dr in the house whose kind attention I received. I was there with Keith just after our engagement in Paris and the last time we were there, a political demonstration in St Germain threatened to turn violent as we sat in the conservatory sipping our champagne. I should like to see you sat in there enjoying champagne with Yann & the family and then I could wish I was beside you, Jx

  9. Julie Ann Evins

I broke my foot not my food ! jx

  10. This post made my heart sing.
Oh!! Paris you have got it down pat.
Every photo has that French feeling.
I love the shot of the old man and Gendarme.. I thought their uniform
    was blue??
    Happy Mothers Day

  11. The postcards are beautiful, Corey! Thanks for thinking of you on your glorious adventure in Paris. One of my favorite memories of Paris is walking along the river. But don’t go another step with your blisters for me!

  12. I am enchanted.
Thanks for taking me along to Paris especially in the Spring and for Mother’s Day
The Bride is stunning I love everything
    Thanks so much for sharing
    I love you

  13. I like seeing the older couples out together – for a walk or sitting in the park. I love a neighborhood restaurant, yours looks charming. Fabulous photographs. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

  14. Oh Corey, this is so beautiful…Happy Mothers Day! I would love to see a photograph of amazed American Tourists, Like I was when i went to Paris…my face actually hurt at the end of the day from all the smiling….Or the steps at Sacre La Coure..Ugh the spelling is so wrong…you know that white church….

  15. Oh…I went to school in Paris lived in the 17th arrdmnt. I would love to see a boy walking down the street carrying a baguette…and a picture of the hardboiled eggs in the cafe’s in the morning!
What fun seeing all these post cards!

  16. Ana Maria

What a beautiful Mother’s Day present you have given us! The photo of the bride is just too much! It is perfect – You caught that “air kiss”, and it’s the second kiss, the one on the right cheek! I bet the bride’s official photographer would love to have caught that moment.
On the Left Bank across from Notre Dame, there is a small park with one of the oldest trees in Paris. A few years ago they were afraid it was dying and were giving it lots of TLC. Is it still there? Can you photograph it for me? And then, behind it is a little street with the oldest wall (from the 13th century) still up. Ajacent to that is a glorious little church (Catholic, Eastern Byzantine rite). Don’t know if you can find it by these crazy directions I’m giving you, but, if you can, please take a picture for me! It isn’t in any of the guide books, but it is a jewel.
    Thank you! …….. Ana Maria

  17. Loved the postcard of the stacked macaroons….could you stop by Poilâne Bread and take a picture of their window so I can drool over their breads 😉

  18. Corey, the pictures are so beautiful.
Thank you for taking us with you.
Cant wait to visit P aris one day and see all this with my own eyes.

  19. I loved your pictures/postcards from Paris. Every single one of them had something touching about it which is why everyone waits eagerly for your next posting. How about the school children in their little uniforms? Oh, and the cheese market. I remember a cheese market in Toulouse but didn’t get a good picture. Thanks for sharing Paris with us.

  20. Ed in Willows

Corey – If I come over there, I’d like to know there is some place for me to eat. Can you show me a KFC, Burger King or McDonalds?

  21. Corey, These past two days of “postcards” has been such a treat! Do the book – you have such an eye! An eye for art, an eye into the soul and an eye for love!

  22. I love the photo of you and French Husband. What a beutiful, happy couple you are!
I’d love to see a pharmacy with the green cross displayed on the building for my soon to be Phamacist daughter. And, I’d love to see inside a chic shop of your choice.
I also would love to see a large blackboard with that unique graceful french script written on it (a menue or whatever).
I love going along with you on your fun excursion around Paris, and I hope to be doing the same in exactly two years time!

  23. Chez Paul has the very hard to find now a days old fashioned assiete de crudites!
    I MUST go there!!!
    merci
    carolg

  24. I was going to ask for Laduree macaroons….mmmmm. Great photos of it My favorite was the olive oil. Heavenly clouds!
    Happy Mother’s Day! xo

  25. And thanks for the Paris vacation. Inexpensive and no jet lag.

  26. Sweetie, I think you found your book…..this is your voice….Paris Postcards!!! Voila!!!

  27. Uh, Corey, those stiletto gladiator sandals look like part of the podiatrists’ full-employment act! Makes my poor feet ache just looking at them.
Hi to Carol G of Paris Breakfasts! Maybe Corey can post a postcard of one of Bear’s Parisian cousins. How ’bout it, Corey?

  28. Dear Corey,
Thank you for posting these wonderful pictures. Not only are they a testament to your amazing photography talents, but they make my days a million times brighter and remind me of the lovely time I spent in Paris over Christmas. 🙂
p.s. Raspberry macaroons are my favorite too.

  29. P.S. Inquiring minds want to know: What are your favorite desserts at Chez Paul? I might just order the vegetable soup and crudités for my main course, so I can save room for dessert(s) — I love when Farmboy Husband and I order two desserts, then share them!

  30. Dear Corey, thank you for the roses, can’t wait to take them into our Apartment.

  31. georgie

Ooh la la! (someone had to say it). Corey, you really do need to publish a book of your photos and stories. Every single photo is worthy of a postcard or being matted and framed.

  32. Happy Mother’s day Corey. I am loving the pictures you are sending from Paris. Makes me want to find a day our group can go up.
10 days is just not enough time to be in France.

  33. I love to see the tables full of silver at the brocantes. Oh how I miss the those beautiful booths with fabulous stuff.
    So, some beautiful silver please.
    Merci!

  34. As a schoolgirl I fell in love with the men the first time I went to Paris. Please post a postcard of the typically handsome french man, casual and oh-so- romanesque…

  35. Pretty pictures Coco! Those are some high heels!! You take the best pictures! 🙂

  36. Happy Mother’s Day!

  37. Anywhere along Rue Saint Dominique. Thank you, Corey. How wonderful. I feel as though I’ve been away to Paris for the weekend.

  38. Diane Laurent

    Coreym
I loved the macaroon tree!! My daughter was in Florida and she found a macaroon shop, run by a frenchman and his wife from Paris. She managed to keep them cool and bought me a dozen of them for Mother’s Day. He makes a mint that is outstanding..so hard to pick a fav!! Would love to see a little french poodle resting at a cafe table.

  39. Love the postcards! I miss the boulangeries…..the smell of the bread, the piles of crusty loaves…..I miss the lady that worked at the one near my house when I lived in Chatou. When I first came and couldn’t understand anything, I held out my hands full of change and she took the proper amount that I owed her :).

  40. Hi Corey,
I love seeing all your Paris postcards so far. I would like to see my favorite dessert – a fruit tarte at a boulangerie.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and Happy Mother’s Day.

  41. Bring it on Corey! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the shout out and the wonderful photo of your love and one of the best things that ever happened to him. Happy Mother’s day to you…can’t wait for the next installment.

  42. Happy Mother’s day to you…and what fun this is. I would love to see an older French couple holding hands…Cheryl

  43. Merci, Corey! You have honored my request! I rejoice for your happy occasions!

  44. happy mothers day!!

  45. Maryann

Corey: Thank you so much for the wonderful postcards.
I went to school two summers and lived at the Foyer at 93 Blvd. St. Michel. I would love a postcard of the fountain just down from the Foyer, across from the Luxembourg Gardens.
    Thanks again,
    Maryann

  46. I just discovered your website, and I LOVE it!! My California Hubby took me to Paris and Provence for our 7 year anniversary this time last year. How about a picture of Luxembourg Gardens at sunset when all the locals are getting their last bit of sunshine. Thanks looking forward to reading more.

  47. I am going to Paris in a month and would LOVE to see where Parisian women put their purses while they eat. Photos from cafes usually show a waiter, a bottle of water/wine, dogs, etc., but no purses. They must be somewhere… they’re huge!

  48. I would love to see anything with a heart in/on it.

  49. Thank you for my Paris postcard of the Eiffel Tower in an unexpected way. I love it!! Makes me feel like I’m there . . .

  50. Just stopped by to wish you a very happy Mother’s Day – and what a treat it was for me, with all these postcards to see.
I want to see a flower market – no, a patisserie – oh how do you choose? It’s Paris – I want to see everything!
    Happy Mother’s Day, Corey!

  51. Corey, I love the “Covergirl”… So fitting. I have a special place waiting to be filled with that book of yours. 🙂 thanks for the perfect shot!

  52. Claudia

You have done it again! That wedding photo says it all about that moment and it is just beautiful the way the bride’s white veil and arm angle through the photo. And that it says “I love you so much” on the back of the lovers’ bench is just amazing. You definitely have a wonderful knack for catching the moment and seeing and snapping beautiful compositions.

  53. Your photos and your blog just take my breath away. Some day I hope to see France in person.

  54. Brother Mathew

  57. Massilianana

LOved every single of your Paris postcards.
What I would love to see…is an AMERICAN IN PARIS, of course ! The obvious candidate would be your cousin Gene – love that name !- but hey…too easy. So he would have to be a stranger to you , tall , handsome , with blue or green eyes , not a teenager , well you get the picture : total eye candy . And please ask him which state he is from. jus t out of ( my )curiosité ! Merci and good luck !

  58. You know, they opened a Ladureè shop in Milan last week…..

  59. i would love to see a picture of the most incredible graveyard in the world “Lachaise ”
