Golden Junk

Toy-mouse

French Husband found this at the brocante. He held it up like as if it were a prize, "Look at this cute little thing!" (He said in a baby voice, that I love and that he rarely uses.)

I acted like I didn't care. I rolled my eyes, I turned my back, and said in a sarcastic voice, "It looks like something the cat brought in? Doll, tell me it is a dried up piece of poop a mouse… Is it?"

French Husband was caught off guard. His Queen (that's me) of loving old, tattered, closer to the garbage can than to the queen's jewels had failed him. He said in a sad little voice, (Can you hear it? You know the sweet shocking surprised type of voice…) "This is a loved, well worn, worthy little treasure… imagine the hands that have played with it…"

I interrupted him, "You mean how many cats tortured it!"

"Oh Corey, it is so sweet, you gotta buy it," He pleaded.

Just as he was about to toss it back to the dealer, I grabbed it.

You gotta love a guy who thinks junk is golden, and a dried up mouse a jewel.

  1. You are wicked, poor Yann, hope the beautiful little mouse is now safely installed in his new home with doting daddy !x

  2. I had one like this!!! Memories! :^)

  3. Imagine that on the pillow, as you turn in at night.

  5. I think it is precious, I really do. I would have bought it. It’s like an old teddy bear with the fur worn off…hey maybe it is a Steif! I think I spelled that wrong…. I’d probably put a tiny silk ribbon around its neck.

  6. Can I have first dibs if you sell it?

  7. That is so cute. Good job, hubby. Corey, mousie looks like it was a little pin cushion in a former life.

  8. You do indeed. A man like that is a treasure himself!

  9. Oh, what a sweet little surprise that little mousie is! Every time you see his beady little eyes, you will remember that day with Yann and that soft, warm spot in your heart will spill forth in the form of tear, right there, at the edge of your eye.

  10. Cute! He needs to be educated, but I do love that little mouse. Now I wonder where you will keep him.

Are you doing reverse psychology on FH, telling him something’s not so great so he’ll protest more about its wonderfulness? It’s fascinating to “watch” (hear about?) the transformation as he starts attending and then picking up and and then LIKING items at brocantes.

oooh, i will bet that he was so darned cute, when fh held that up for you, so innocent. Bestest,Denise

  13. No offense to Yann, but if that darned neighbor cat comes back to your house for a “piddle”, toss the mouse out the window and watch the cat go after it. ;}
(This is said all in jest, of course, as we rescue kitties at my house.) 🙂

  14. Hey, Corey, you could have Yann retrofit it for your home computer!

  15. My 4 pound chihuahua would love that mouse!
You should be so proud of Yann, he is finally seeing beauty in old, cat old, but old the same. LOL

  16. My first thought at the sight of the photo was that it was bread in the shape of a mouse. A wonderful bakery near me is always doing such whimsical things. You made me laugh with today’s blog. Thank you.

  17. I like this mouse. Very much. So glad he was able to find a new home with you and French Husband!!
    Happy Mouse~

  18. Good for FH! He is finally getting the brocante bug, or in this case, mouse.

  19. adorable, well loved little treasure..

  20. Coco & Yann,
I vote for using it as a give-away item. That is a prize that will be cherished by man, woman or child alike now that we have this story and context behind it. Very lovely. Hey, can you give us any idea how much something like that costs and why?
