Iron work

A year ago I came to South Carolina to help a Lynn (a friend I met through blogging) pack, load and drive her truck and trailer to Round Top Texas to sell antiques at one of the largest antique fairs in the U.S.A.

In the end Lynn hired Steven to help load the trailer, because honestly, Popeye we are not. Steven is an expert packer, but a terrible driver.

Steven and I fall asleep at the wheel, not a good thing to have in common.

Scary stuff… so scared was I last year watching him drive, that I ate all the snacks we had for our week trip in five minutes.

The Packing Team

French Husband came this time to help Lynn.

I think he thinks we are nuts.

It amazes me that he only now knows this.

Oh well love is blinding at times.

Packed french antiques

Photo: Lynn's storage shed full of packed boxes.

When packing and moving Styrofoam boxes it sounds as if someone is scrapping their fingernails on a chalkboard!!

Did I make you cringe?

I am still cringing!

Law sign

Lynn and I packed the twenty thousand boxes, France no longer has any antiques left.

Last I heard the Eiffel Tower was coming over too.

(Sacha asked if I packed a baguette for him, and Chelsea asked for yogurt.)

Antiques from France

Lynn and I packed to the sound of fingernails on chalkboard, sweat running into our eyes, the rooster crowing because it is a crazy rooster that it thinks it is a dog…. crowing because he cannot talk/bark.

We had fun, we really did… really!

Out of all the French antique objects that she bought, only one thing in her storage shed held my attention….

Object of my desire

I am gonna take him home with me, he is a keeper!

  1. “France no longer has any antiques left.”
Corey, I knew that this moment would arrive, sooner or later!
    *giggles*
Viva French Yogurt, yes, the stuff dreams are made of (and miles of aisles filled with it at the le hypermarché (love that French word, btw!).
Bon voyage (I bet I know who is going to do the driving),
    hugs to all of you,
    from Vienna,
    Merisi

  2. N.B.:
Do I have nothing else to do than wait for your post to be published and then hurry to be the first to comment? *tztztzt* –
may the mistakes in the first comment be a hint that I am surreptitiously escaping from the PS books I am supposed to be studying, alright? Wished I were in Provence with you and you would teach me how to get those delicious letters into the pictures!

  3. Please shoot me for writing “France” next to my name – the link, of course, goes to Vienna.
I better go disappear into my books,

  4. Merisi,
You find “Add Text” where you edit your pictures, then pick font color and size. A little box pops up on your picture. When you save it, the text stays with the picture.
Gosh, Corey, I hope the bottom line is worth it to your friend. That’s a ton of work. Most shows don’t pay, but they are fun.

  5. Finest French Treasure Returns Home; More on the 10 o’clock news, live from Marburger, TX and beyond. tee hee Enjoy!

  8. I want to leave work and head for Texas! Have fun and don’t forget to pack FH when you head back home!

  9. I sure hope I make it! We may be sleeping in our vehicle but it would be worth it!
Oh, why does Texas have to be such a huge state?

  10. FH is a sweetie for coming along and helping out. I’m sure your children are anxious to see you next month!
    By the way, THE BEST ever organic yogurt…Wallaby Yogurt {a family run business founded in Napa Valley, CA.}

Got a chuckle out of Sacha and Chelsea’s requests…my good friend who just returned from a spectacular Mediterranean cruise…
couldn’t wait for peanut butter and skim milk!
Following you vicariously and enjoying every step… Judy

  12. Corey, have a safe trip.
And be sure to let us know about your stop in New Orleans — one of my favorite cities to visit! BTW, the soi-disant “French Quarter” is actually of Spanish origin (LOL!). Do you have beignets in France, or are they strictly a faux creation of New Orleans (just as Chop Suey isn’t actually Chinese, either)?

  13. What what what ? I remembered Stephen’s sleep driving and knew Yann would have to go along. Is he an outrider ?! Have fun, Jx

  14. Looks like tons of work and megatons of fun.

  15. What is a marriage globe?

  16. Wish I could see you there. It sounds like fun. And yes, I think you got a “keeper”.

  17. If you can squeeze in a brief stop in Cajun country — dejeuner en Lafayette, Louisiana, peut-être? — I bet Yann would love hearing the French patois brought there by the Acadians expelled from the Canadian Maritimes by the British in the mid-18th century:

    Ne lache pas la patate!!!

  18. Corey,
I love reading your blog……..you make me laugh! Have a wonderful adventure!

Perhaps Southern cuisine will be the only way you will overfill weight limitations. As you only have one special French treasure, who will be repatriating himself.

  20. OMG you make me laugh!
And yes real yogurt is a thing of the past here in the united states, I miss it too.

  21. Corey, I wish I had been there, or better yet to Marburger! What fun and great stuff, too! Enjoy yourself.

  22. Dear Gigi,
thank you so much for your tip!
Imagine, I actually managed to “write” on the first picture of today’s post (“Desire” – on an old streetcar, if that is not a good omen? *smile*).
Studying for school leaves me very little time for “playing” with Photoshop, but I am looking forward to the day when I graduate and can hopefully use what I learned to play with it too.
    Merci,
    Merisi

  23. Corey,
it is the morning of the 28th, and I am thinking of you.
Can’t wait to see pictures from the fair!
    Godspeed,
    Merisi
