Land For Sale in the Heart of Paris

Land for sale in the heart of Paris, where the Eiffel Tower will be built…

That was what the article said in the massive 1854, newspaper book full of articles, with some written by Balzac. French Husband found it when he was loading Lynn's antiques for the fair.

Land for sale in the heart of Paris, unheard of now, but back in 1854 you could buy a lot for 19,000 French Francs which today is roughly $3,800.

What would you do if you could go back in time?

Sure it wasn’t Paris, Texas? Any time in history to observe high ergy thoughts in a low technology world.

  2. I will buy it on Amazon and build a match stick Eiffel Tower.
I think you have the equation turned bouleverse…
You have to figure what 17,000 francs is worth in 1854 monetary values – it would cost much more than that bien sur.

  3. How much is the book?

  4. My husband would love to go back and see the gladiators fight. I am too afraid that if I went back in time I would get sick and they would bleed me to dealth or put leeches on me. No Thanks!

  5. I’m back to the late 1800’s and on the prairie with Ma and Pa Ingalls and Laura and Mary and Grace and we wander about. Of course, wherever we wander and roam and discover there is a very modern toilette with running water and shower and privacy!

  6. Buy lots of French enamelware….lol!

  7. Ed in Willows

    I would invest in Microsoft.

  8. I would love to be mouse in a lot of different times and places.
Peak in during the dark ages… back when Cesar was ruling…
some famous moments written down in history books… some everyday moments in not so famous lifes…
but yes, I agree with the modern day amenities 🙂

  9. Somehow I have no desire to move back in time. I like to live in the here and now as long as it lasts.

  10. I would sit down with my wise Grandmother, and ask her questions about life after 60. How did she feel about aging, children, moving, adventure, etc.
So many questions, and no one to ask now.

  11. I would learn to speak French when I was young and move to France to start shopping the Brocantes before they became popular.

  12. I’d go to Paris and buy that land! Then I’d build a little hotel on it for tourists to come and see Paris and the Eiffel Tower – oh, perhaps first I’d win the lottery!

Too many times and places, but in my own time – back to when I was 20 and stay thin!

  14. I would like to have tea with Charles Dickens.

  15. Oh, but I think we have all lived before….why else would old things mean so much to us, take us back?

  16. lol, ms corey, your readers are witty indeed!

  17. Alright, I admit, I already read (and enjoyed immensely!) your Sep 29th post! (What can I do? It is 9.15am here in Vienna and I have been up at 6 o’clock out of disquiet over all the stuff I need to study before the new semester starts in 8 days – help! – and after 3 hours of work I said let’s see if Corey has something nice for me to calm my nerves. And yes, she does, and I thank you for it from the bottom of my heart!).
And now I am seriously contemplating of quitting school and jump on a plane to get to Marburger’s and have some serious fun! 😉

  18. I would keep my first house bought in Portsmouth, NH on Dennet Street. At that time it was 100 years old, bats in the attic, with a charming carriage house in the back. We bought it when our daughter was 6 months old for $36,000. Today, the homes there are selling for $350,000. Portsmouth is a wonderful New England town with so much charm….a great place to have a summer home.
