Marburger Antique Fair, Part Two

Marburger antiques

Photography and text by Corey Amaro:

Marburger is snack dab in the middle (more or less) between Houston and Austin, more of a pasture than a town. A blink of an eye and you have passed it. Marburger is one of many little towns along the road of rolling hills, wild oak trees, cattle, rattle snakes, and blue bonnets.

The bi annual antique fair is alongside the road, continuing for thirty miles. The stands or booths are in tents, small houses dating back to last century, and out in the field. Each area has a
different name. The one we are in is called Marburger. Round top is
another area, as is Red Barn, Warrenton, Excess, etc… Round Top it is also the overall name of the fair.

Marburger has around 350 dealers. The dealers come from all over the USA and abroad. I met dealers from Connecticut, Kansas, California, Tennessee, Florida, Atlanta, Ireland … and of course Texas too.

Every type of antique, rustic to glittery, 17th century to yesterday, textile to wood is available.

While in Marburger helping my friend Lynn with her booth I met some of you who read my blog. Though I think many of you came to meet French Husband and referred to him as French Husband too… I think next time I will put on his tag "French Husband". We enjoyed meeting each and everyone of you, and felt like we knew you for years. Even those who have been reading my blog and never dared to leave me a comment. Alan you are going to write me now aren't you now, pretty please?!

Thank you for coming to see us, thank you for reading my blog, thank you for leaving me comments, for sharing your friendship and thoughts with me, Thank you for encouraging me to continue to be my self… ding dong and all.

It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are there…

  1. Good morning, Corey!
Are you talking trade secrets or something of a more delicate nature? *smile*
I hope you do get enough rest to wake up restored and ready to take in all the wonderful people and things waiting for you at the fair.
    Best wishes,
    Merisi

  2. Corey California’s Golden Gates are open and welcoming you back to where you started from!

  3. I can’t wait to come and visit you some day in France. I am glad you had such a fantastic time.

  4. Corey, I loved meeting the two of you. I must confess earlier in the day (prior to looking you up) I did spot French Husband in the food area. I resisted running up to him – “OMG! You are Corey’s French Husband!” I didn’t want him backing away in fear and running back to you proclaiming, “Those Texas women are crazy!” Although he may have said that after meeting us anyway LOL
Always be yourself! You are wonderful!

  5. I wish I could tag along with you. I would have such a great time.
    Yvonne

  6. If you had to choose, French Brocante or Texas flea? Can’t say both.

  7. Hello Corey!
Feeling a little sorry for myself that I wasn’t among that fortunate group of lovely people who were able to meet you! I just HAD to tell you that I had a dream about you the other night… you were showing me some of your antique stash in France! In my dream, your stash of antique wooden chairs had grown so big that you were borrowing a closet in a friend’s house, and when you opened the closet door, it was jam packed with a jumble of furniture! 😉

  8. i am so happy for you Corey! meeting people that already love you must be grand!
Someday i will get to France and drink from that fountain in the middle of your town, and we will have a glass of wine together and talk about how small the world is.
until then, i will be very happy to read about your life and times here:)

It was a treat meeting you and FH. I wanted to make sure he was in a picture with us because my husband lept to the conclusion that I was planning to meet FH at Marburger. He saw my comment to you on Facebook and thought Corey was FH’s name. It was flattering to think he could still show a spark of jealousy after 35 years! It was extra fun getting to meet Yann, but you were the reason I stopped by. Enjoy Austin!

i am so happy to hear all about this sale and all your fun. you are quite the gal. bless you! Bestest,Denise

  11. so glad you got to meet all those who love you so.. and Ludmil beside that red truck of Bobby’s is priceless, hat and all.. love you.

  12. Looks like everyone is having a ball. Nice to see you in the pictures, for a change.
Hope you can visit Austin, TX while you’re there. Fabulous music and GREAT Tex Mex food!
When are you coming to California?

  13. Corey, I’ve been so inspired by your visit to
Marburger this week that I went brocanting
yesterday with the idea that I would spend
no more than $50 USD. What did I find amongst
all the hoary, tattered, and just plain old
ugly stuff? Just a sweet little French chair
to paint and cover in linen and a wonderfully
patinated 1920’s art-deco set of silverware
for eight. I’d love to go to Marburger sometime,
but will probably visit France before, I ever
get to Texas, now that daughter is
    living in Marseille – LOL!

  14. I sure wish I were there right now, curses! To meet you and shop would be a dream come true.
I’m so happy you are meeting your followers and friends. When someone takes the precious time to blog each and every day, the least we all can do is say, thank you.

  15. This midwest Indiana girl can only dream. It sounds like another flea market land, far, far away from me. Thank you for sharing the different names, and locations.

  16. So glad you are enjoying yourself. You must feel like you died and went to Brocante heaven!!!
I am thinking you might consider buying that old big mansion that you went through a month ago with your friend. Looks like you are going to have lots of visitors.:-)

  17. It was nice meeting you and Yann even though we have never met before you made us feel like old friends. Thank you.

  18. jend’isère

once again you are tempting me to blog

  19. Corey,
It’s so nice to see that you are getting more relaxed about having your picture on your blog. You look so happy.

  20. What a wonderful Monday morning surprise: More Marburger (and more Marburger and more …. yesterday, there was only the first picture with the huge tent visible, and I loved it for its simplicity, the blog post, I mean, no, the tent, wait, well … hello, Mathew, still reading? *giggles*)
So glad you are yourself, “ding dong and all” – yes, Brother Mathew, your sister is a treasure, and she is perfect as she is!

  21. Judy B. – Texas

You were so close and I didn’t get to meet you; I normally go to Round Top shows twice a year, but couldn’t make this one. I’m sad but I did read and gawked at your blog/photos. So good to see you in photos. The pictures of you and Yann dancing were priceless.
Welcome back to Texas, Corey and Yann. Ya’ll come back, ya hear!! Judy B./Houston
P.S. How is sweet Annie doing?

  22. I love seeing your happy face in such a fun place. I didn’t even know such a place even existed. I’ve been to Paris, now I feel like I need to put Marhurger on my list of places to go. What a great idea for FH and you to go and do something fun after having the chickadees fly the coop. I’ll enjoy watching all of your good times. Keep it up!

  23. Hi Corey! Hubby and I made our first trip to Marburger last week all the way from Florida and loved it! My first stop was tent F to find you…and I did, but you and FH were in a deep conversation and I did not want to interrupt you, so I went shopping around the tent for awhile and when I came back by, you were already gone. Not getting to chat you was my only disappointment in Marburger.

  24. What a lovely smile you have!

Did you meet my friend John Sauls??? I sure hope so.
We visit France every day with you in your blog. I just love the colors of France…
I was also wondering if French Husband speaks English much?
    Have a great journey-be safe.
