Breakfast of Champions and other tidbits

Pumpkin pecan muffins

Photography and Text by Corey Amaro

Hot from the oven, home made, pumpkin pecan muffins, with ginger fig honey.

Lord have mercy begged my thighs, which my friend Annie calls, "Belle Cuisse."

Ladelle is stuffed us silly. Oh course I did not push back from the table.

Of course my middle name starts with a P which does not stand for Pauline.

Of course I am in hog heaven! My favorite place to be in all the world (outside of you know where…).

Happy dance breakfast

French Husband is clapping, though it looks like he is praying, he is doing the happy breakfast dance. French Husband LOVES to eat, LIVES to eat… Eats more that anyone I know except Sacha, Chelsea, Ladelle… and me.

This is Ladelle's idea of a little breakfast! To think when she was in France baguette and coffee was what I offered her…. shameful really.

Feeling guilty as sin I said, "Well looks like I will have to move in since I won't be able to fit through your door."

No skipping a beat, Ladelle served home made tortillas with avocadoes.

Under the breakfast table is my new home.

  3. I would love to share this breakfast , I’m dying.
and I would love to spend some days in southern california

  4. Julie Loeschke

Are you starting to be okay with dogs? I pray so.:)

  5. Hmmm.. looks like dogs are winning you over?

  6. Clyde for FH? Could it be you have befriended another dog Corey??? I will gladly take the beach OR the bakery. I think we probably all want to visit Ladelle now!

  7. You sure know how to live! And Ladelle sure knows how to cook!

  8. Oh, the recipe, PLEASE, for those muffins! That’s the beauty of California…beaches, mountains…all within an easy drive 🙂

  9. You are indeed having a wonderful holiday. And you do know how to celebrate each day. The breakfast looks delish. I would love to walk along the canals of Venice and visit the life guard station on the beach.

  10. What a scrumptious and healthy way to start your day with a morning feast!

  11. Ladelle! you are fantastique!!! Homemade tortillas…ah Corey, and Yann y’all are being loved so well. I love, love, love that pic of Yann in Breakfast heaven. What a feast of friends.

  12. YOU hit the jackpot! Home in California and good food. What’s left? I’m all for home swapping, however, no one is interested in visiting the hottest valley in the west. Well, maybe a handful. You, Corey, have what they call, leverage, South of France.

  13. Corey it looks like you are having the time of your life. What empty nest?

  14. Anne Gsolfot

Hi, Corey! I’m waving at you from here in Los Angeles. I can ‘almost’ see you. lol Welcome home to California (yes, I know Willows is up north.) Sounds like you and French Husband are having a wonderful time.

  15. and Clyde won’t care if you miss your plane.

  16. I’d be clapping too if I sat down to that
    scrumptious breakfast! Love your postcards!
Oh, what I’d give to be by the sea right
now. I can feel the sea breeze, sun and energy
    through your photos. Wonderful!

  17. Postcard to Ladelle

    Message:
Please send the missing ingreidants to your pumpkin and pecan muffins to your Nor Cal neighbor.

  18. Jesus H. Christ … I feel my thighs getting better just reading your blog. Gotta go run it off …

  19. “Clyde for french husband” I have to tell you I laughed out loud. Seriously though as a dog lover (which I know you are not yet anyway) it might be a good trade. Dogs don’t talk back, they don’t give you “the look” when you get the flight departure time wrong, they are happy to eat most anything, they always adore you no matter what… But wait other than the “look” french husband sounds about as good as a dog and just about as cute as Clyde. Also dogs probably don’t dance as well.

  20. What beautiful snaps of So. California. And just reading the words “homemade tortillas” makes me drool. Is there anything better than that?
    Enjoy your California trip.
    Diane in Placerville
breaking my lurking habit because you love comments…

  21. I wished I lived in California, because I would swap in a heartbeat. Clyde is a doll baby.
    Betsy

  22. Brenda L from TN

    Oooo…what a sweet dog…love the face but swap for FH??? I don’t think so…
Can we please get the recipe for the muffins?? They look soooo good.
Love the Calfornia pictures…you really DO have a way with a camera…Thanks for sharing.

  23. I would swap Las Vegas for the brocante. But you would be welcome to visit even without a swap. My husband and daugher could practice their French and I could practice my cooking.

  24. I was just on Manhattan Beach a couple weeks ago – my first visit to California. Your pictures are a bazillion times better than mine 🙂 But even so, I’m not so sure about the French brocante v. California beach – pretty sure what you have is the best of both worlds!

  25. now just a darn minute here! you get venice beach (which is looking admittedly lovely these days) and a blue cadillac, and clyde gets french husband? m

  26. Love your postcards Corey! They are all beautiful!
