How is Sacha you asked?

Well, the other night at the high school football game (where Sacha runs a golden flag with his cousin Sam, after each and every touch down.) we sat in the bleachers… French Husband, Chelsea, half the town of Willows, most of them I knew or was related too, Sacha and his girlfriend.

Yes, his girlfriend from the rival school….

  1. That boy of yours obviously is living his dream.
I am so happy for all of you!
Your pictures capture perfectly an aspect of Americanness that I miss more than I dare to admit at times: A certain boundless joy, a spirit of living and celebrating the moment without holding back, but in all innocence and without hurtfulness towards your fellow brothers and sisters, something that is in my heart as American as apple pie.

  2. Hasmin C.

    I take it, he’s enjoying high school~American style! 😉

  3. Seems he is now more “American” than French ..!! I do hope he doesn’t loose his “Frenchness” 🙂

  4. I can’t help but wonder what French Husband thinks of this. Does he live vicariously, does he find it all very odd, what must he think as he sits at an American football game and watch his son run a flag around the field?
And another question about Sacha – will he have turkey for Thanksgiving this year?

  5. It sure looks likes he is enjoying his time here….tell us more about the girlfriend!!!

  6. Maybe just like his father and American has captured his heart.

  7. Stepping in his Father’s footsteps, how sweet. Ah, the smell of youth.

  8. I can see from your photos that Sacha is enjoying his gap year in the US! So glad to hear he is happy and well. I love small towns and Willows must be a very special place (well-filled with special people – of course!) to hold your heart so near after all these years.

  9. beautiful photos! I love “knowing” your kids and family. It reminds me of mine-so rich in love and growing and growing!! The greatest gift of all.

  10. I rejoice in the right choice that Sacha made to investigate and deepen his American roots. He may be finding himself…

  11. Sacha looks like he is having a great time. Very, Very happy to see his young, vivacious, happiness:) How’s “blondie” doing?:)

  12. I love this post and how you capture small town America. Relocating recently to a large city I miss the small town feeling and community events far more than gaining better shopping opportunities.
I’m so glad that you and your family have this time together in Willows, and that you seem to have recovered from that nasty bug.
Keep us posted on love “American style.”

  13. Ed in Willows

Young Frenchman comes to America where he meets a young America woman. They fall in love, marry and move to France to raise a family. A little over 20 years later, a young Frenchman comes to America where he meets a young American woman. Yes, de javu is a French term.

Love that first photo, glad to see/hear he is having so much fun.

  15. Glad to hear he’s doing so well, everyone should live their dreams. Bravo Sacha!

  16. Corey! I think it is absolute fabulous that Sasha graduated in France and chose to do an extra year here for the experience. And going to school with his cousin(s) too. What an unforgettable experience. Your boy/man sure knows how to broaden his world view. Hugs, Annie

  17. Like Sue K., I wonder what your French Husband (and Chelsea too) thought of all this. OTOH, is there hoopla and tradition in France associated with school soccer teams?
Corey, what tune is WHS’s school hymn sung to? “High Above Cayuga’s Waters,” perhaps? The lyrics seem to fit, but of course that wouldn’t preclude it from being another tune entirely. (I recall in college that my pledge class appalled some of our more humorless alumnae when we loudly demonstrated that the lyrics to one of our sorority’s most serious and treasured songs about the importance of sisterhood fit exactly to the spirited melody of “On Wisconsin.” The sacrilege was worth it just to see the unamused expressions on their faces!)

  18. P.S. What subjects is Sacha taking? Has he told you some of the ways in which high school classes in Willows are different from, as well as similar to, those in France? Are there courses offered at WHS that weren’t available in France? Presumably US History, Civics, American Lit — but what others? Is he in any school music programs? I’m a firm believer in the value of musical education, BTW, but will spare you a lengthy discourse on the topic now 🙂

  19. I love Merisi’s commet as she expressed in words the feelings your photos evoked in me.

  20. Flying high…I love the photos and the spirit of innocence that they capture. I’m happy you’re reunited with your family!

  21. GO Sacha!!!!

  22. So nice to hear! Blessings. Kimberly

I first saw all those football-clad bottoms and was getting ready to be astonished that Sacha was on the football team — talk about instant (and over-the-top) assimilation into US culture! I like it that he’s involved, and running golden flags down the field. Thanks for the brief glimpse.
