Shelley’s Little Dog and the Luncheon

Dog

This little dog looks harmless, though don't let her dancing tricks fool you… she is one faithful, trustworthy, mean machine protector. Her mama is my friend Shelley and this little cute dog almost had me running back to being afraid of dogs again.

Luckily I did not waiver. I stayed in the same room with her even though she barked at French Husband and I as if we are going to rob her mama and put her dog biscuits in the garbage disposal. I tell you that little dog would jump over the moon in order to protect her Mama.

I admire that about this little dog. Even when she nearly ate French Husband alive, and showed me how fast I could run for cover.

Cousins

Shelley, invited my cousins and I to her house for lunch. As kids we went to school together…  though that has nothing to do about my being afraid of dogs, but I thought you might want to know about us, and what I did yesterday. My cousins Sara, Lynette, Alma and I are afraid of the dark, staying home alone and do not like scary movies. Shelley is the complete opposite. She is the toughest one of us all. Just thought you might want to know that too.

Lynette is afraid of cats.

Alma doesn't mind dogs or cats.

Sara lets Shelley's little dog lick her face. I will never get that far into liking dogs.

Shelley says her dog is kissing not licking….whatever.

Anyway, back to Shelley's dog.

After she nearly ate French Husband for breakfast, and barked at us like we are robbing her mama I realized that she is after all not going to eat French Husband for breakfast, and only barking because we scared her when we walked in unannounced.

Shelley's Dog

So you see little dog I am officially not afraid of you nor any other dog ever again…though I will never feed you your dog biscuits like Alma, nor let you lick my face like Sara, or tell you that I am afraid of cats like Lynette.

By the way little dog… French Husband does taste good for breakfast, but I am not sharing!

  1. Oh how absolutely marvellous this is! I ADORE dogs and this is one major DOG. Learn that ‘size doesn’t matter’ – in this case…. the smaller they are the meaner they can be and this tough cookie obviously adores her mama or else Little Dog wouldn’t be so fierce! I LOVE your story; I LOVE reading your blog and even though I am hardly at a computer, I always go first to your news because it’s like a slice of your life you share with us! THANK YOU for the words and the priceless Little Fearless Dog portraits…
    Much love from France

  2. … just wanted to add:
LOVED your remark about your Tasty French Husband and about your not sharing him….. Priceless!
And HURRAH, I was the first to comment – this hasn’t happened in years on any comment page I know of… :))))
sorry for my itching fingers, pressing send before I finished thinking and writing! Oh well, I KNOW I shouldn’t sit here but be in the garden, raking tons of autumn leaves!

  3. How wonderful indeed.
    So glad to see Shelley
Big hugs and love to you all

I love dogs but I know you must give them time to know you before petting them. That’s the rule. Usually, once a dog realizes you are not a threat they will sit on your lap and ask for petting.
Well, that’s how my little Sophie is.

  5. My friends poodle is like that. Who is the Liza Minnelli in the photo..

  6. Dachshunds are absolutely fearless defenders… but then any dog bred to go into holes after badgers would have to have more guts than brains. (so saying the lifetime owner of wee wiener dogs!) That’s a lovely little dachie too!

  7. My dogs are medium/large size and bark at strangers. Once they get to know people they settle right down. One dog loves to lean against guests and get pets while the other one naps. You will love them. Small dogs are fearless and very loyal. Shelley’s dog looks like a dynamo!

Aren’t you a little sassy this morning – fabulous. I will let almost any dog lick my face, not my mouth, but my cheek – sure. Love them all and miss mine terribly. Cats too, any animal really.

  9. What a sweet looking dog!

  10. Hope you all had a wonderful lunch. Maybe your husband’s ankles have a certain je ne sais quoi for dogs?

  11. Franca Bollo

    Lovely picture of you, Coco.

  12. LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY to see you with Shelley! Hi Shelley! And Hi Shelleys dog! I for one am glad Shelley has a ‘mean little one’ to protect her, god knows what kind of French frogs could be lurking about – LOL… Corey you are so wonderfully wicked, I adore you!
    Kisses to both of you
    Ulla

  13. you know, Corey , I’m going to apply those thoughts to areas of my life where, all toooooo often, my fears can easily overrule.
Here in New Zealand it is Spring – its been the most gorgeous weekend of weather and are looking forward to a long hot summer!!

Well, I for one do not like dogs licking my face. I DO like dogs but I like larger dogs. I used to have a dog that “leaned” on people while they petted him too…never knew what that was about.I really like cats too. But your friend’s dog is cute and has a sweet face…he is just saying that you can’t “have” his momma.

I don’t let dogs, though I love them, lick my face or hands (it also grosses me out when people let dogs and cats eat leftovers off their plates. I don’t care if the dishes are washed with soap and scalding hot water afterward! I don’t want to eat there again). My husband lets our chihuahua lick his nose and chin; I had to tell him that the thought of that would be enough to put me off kissing him, myself. If he is smart he won’t let me see that happening in future!
PS Corey, what is happening with your book?

  16. I think dogs can sense when you are afraid of them. It only makes them bark more.
Brenda L, My dog also ‘leans’ into people when they scratch his back or pet him. I think it’s his way of hugging you back.
Finally, I think folks are a little too germophobic. You need some germs so you can build up immunity to things. I must be very immune to dog and cat germs. I get licked by them daily.

    Corey,
    It’s time…
You need to get yourself a dog.
Something French like with a King Louis wig for hair.
    Dress it in pink.
Carry it around in a Louis Vuitton bag…call it by the name Phillipe.
Give it the two cheek kiss.

  18. It is amazing as how the little dogs can be even more protective than the big ones. Such a cute face though!

  19. AWWW! That doggy is so cute and i love its pink collar!! I don’t think it could eat all of yoyo!!!

  20. Corey,
You are looking younger all the time. It must be related to the empty nest.

What a sweet little dog, I love dogs and love a dog kisses if it comes from a LITTEL dog =)

  22. This petite dog almost makes me like dogs too! I am not a fan of them either! But your blogs, I am! God Bless!

  23. What a sweet little face this little dog has. How wonderful to have this special time together.

  24. Sue from Seattle

I have a little doxie/rat terrier mix that looks alot like this pup. Very cute.

  25. heurebleu

Big dogs are easier to love than little dogs….I used to be afraid too….but somehow it went away….Corey as long as you don’t want one…you don’t need to stop being afraid…I don’t blame you….it is the unknown…..besides I am afraid of some people who many think the world turns around them….it is instinctual…and there for a reason…I always listen to my inner voice. So do what you want ….you are perfect the way you are.

  26. I’m so glad to see Shelley finally. You all look great, Corey!

  27. Oh, Corey. I’m just going to ignore the FH for breakfast comment…
