French Lesson Number Two: The Love Affair

French Lesson Number Two: The Love Affair.

If you want to be French you must love cheese (I bet you didn't see that coming!).

It is obvious that the French love their cheese when you see the cheese section in the French grocery stores. The cheese section is bigger than any American grocery store sections holding cereal, chips, and cookies combined.

Cheese is just another word for love in France.

Camembert cheese is just one out of a couple hundred cheeses available in France.

When selecting a camembert pick one that when you poke it gently in the center it gives and springs back. Soft center means the camembert is perfectly ripe (As the little boy says in the clip.)

Oh, and you must leave the cheese out for an hour or more before serving.

Camembert with a baguette and a glass of wine is my preferred way. But I have had the above recipe and well its not bad either. The only problem is… I want to eat all of it myself, all by myself, every little melted droplet.

Does this mean I am French?

And who can resist cheese and potatoes.

French cooking…. did you ever learn any of these camembert recipes from Julia Childs?

Chelsea told me she wants Camembert, a hunk of it for her Welcome Home dinner. But I am certain that Chelsea will not just be kissing the camembert. Mr. Espresso will be home from school too, and well I doubt I will have any time to see her sweet face since she will have eyes only for camembert or kissing Mr. Espresso …not in that order either.

My kids and I spend a lot of time at Whole Foods, which does have an amazingly large cheese section at which one can sample. Would love the recipe with the carmelized apples!

Please Corey, let me know in which way the potatoes are prepared – what is that juicy thing they are fried in ?
Thanks for the inspirational ideas of preparing camembert, will give it a try tomorrow. Bon appetit !

  17. Well, you are making me very hungry! Can you believe that I am allergic to cheese? But, sometimes, I eat it anyway, just because I love it! Tonight may be one of those times, just because of you 🙂
My heartstrings today are not singing from cheese, however, but from my grandson and my three beautiful daughters. I am so blessed! How we love our children, Corey – yes?

  23. I’m willing to bet that the cheese section in my favorite grocery here in Wisconsin would rival the size of a French grocer’s cheese section. It’s enormous and overwhelming. They don’t call us “Cheeseheads” for nothing! 😉 I cannot vouch for the cheese itself being as good as your French cheese, however.

  24. Cheese, baguette, red wine and a warm fire – ideally in a log cabin by a lake, but that is not always possible. That or a fondue!

  25. I just love your expressions! …Brenda @ Kindred Hearts Antiques and Gifts

  26. Oh Corey, thank you so much for posting the caramel apple camembert video!!!!!
Post more cooking videos with minimal ingredients and maximal exotic Frenchines, please!
