Christmas lights in Paris (photo source Superstock.)
Christmas in France, on the streets the decorations are mainly lights. No matter how small a town is it has Christmas lights, usually they are strung across the street. The lights above are from "The City of Lights" Paris. Where there is a gigantic ferris wheel for the occassion. It stands over eight floors high.
Christmas window trimmings. In Aix en Provence the town has decorated the shop's windows with moss, little flickering lights, and flocked Christmas tree branches with wrapped boxes on the corners. Red and green are not the only colors used in France for Christmas.
Garlands even on the tinest of streets.
Understated. Simply beautiful.
A gentle way to welcome the feast day.
Bundled up walking from shop to shop.
Walking under the garlands.
Chic French shopper with a baby.
I tell you French women are chic even after having a baby.
In Aix en Provence the Christmas lights are strung across the Cours Mirabeau, and cover the trees. Large luminous balls hang in the middle, and at both ends of the street there are large old carousals set up for the holidays.
At twilight another magic comes to play.
Pink softness, a moment to catch your breath before the lights come on to play with the stars.
Having a drink at four in the afternoon without carrying one's cup of coffee in a large paper cup. In France, having a coffee in the middle of the day, while out shopping, means sitting in a cafe, taking a moment to enjoy the moment.
….. and candles burning inside the shop, while sheep stand around waiting outside the stable.
More photos of Christmas in France tomorrow.
