Be My Guest

Photographs and images by Guest Blogger: Laurie Chaney.

Guest blogger for a day on Corey Amaro's Tongue in Cheek. An honor. To win one must submit a story idea. The competition was fierce and her readers loyal. I suggested an advice column. "I have a white sock and sandal wearing husband. What's a peep toe wearing wife to do?" Most reader's suggestions came in the way of "Not interested in any guest blogger. We only want France, the brocante and you Corey."

I had won along with Kiki from Paris. She too likes to take photographs and sent me a gracious note congratulating me on the shared win.

The story idea would be told in photographs. For two months, my husband questioned the photographing of his sock drawers. Leaving him with this thought. "She likes them and I should wear them more often."

I immediately changed story idea.

Which lead me to story idea number two.

Chelsea,

Corey's daughter.

She was spending a semester in San Francisco on an exchange program from France.

We had planned to meet.

A blind lunch date.

Reservations for two at the Zuni Cafe 1:00 PM on a Sunday afternoon.

I brought my camera.

 Tucked it into my bag.

Postcards for Corey…

Gift for a Mother who missed her daughter terribly.

Charming, beautiful and funny Chelsea.

Full of love.

We had lunch and shared an espresso.

She spoke of home, family, life, travel, school and dreams.

Captivated.

I soon forgot about the camera in my bag.

Which leads me to story idea number three.

We had skipped dessert.

So, here it is.

Guest blogger for a day..

If we had ordered dessert.

Story idea 1 made me laugh so much – The dénouement is most successful !!!
Story idea 2 attracted me straight away. I was litterally at the café table with you, having lunch with you and listening to Chelsea. (It reminded me of my first meeting with Corey !!!) Amazing !!!
And the way you patched up what you consider as a flaw (=the lack of pictures) charmed me !!!
Story idea 3 (or guest-blog story) swirled me on with your beautiful pictures !!!
THE twirling dessert of a wonderful story menu !
    Thank you !!!

  8. That was creative and quite a fun little read. The photographs were wonderful and while I was one of the “just want more Corey”, I’m delighted to have been introduced!

  9. Well-done Laurie! Loved your softly-lit photos. The cookies look nibble-licious!

  10. Very enjoyable Laurie and funny too!! I still want to see your husband and his socks and sandals. [smile]

  11. Well done, I would have been so nervous but you nab it, as they say. Those photos are so Coreyesque, new word.

  13. Wonderful! And how fun it must have been to meet Chelsea! This was a great idea, Corey.
Is everyone from Willows extremely creative?
I like to pop over to “Through The Milkhouse Door” occasionally and am always wowwed by the photography. I love the way you tweak your compositions, Laurie.

  14. Yes, we’re all such devoted fans that the idea of a guest blogger was rejected by some, but I’m reminded of this poem:
    Outwitted
    ◦ by Edwin Markham
He drew a circle that shut me out —

Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.

But Love and I had the wit to win:

We drew a circle that took him in!
    Very nicely done, Laurie

  15. Laurie, you’re making me homesick for mya native SF Bay Area!

  16. Lovely photos. The cookies in the cup are wonderful. Thanks for sharing gorgeous photos. I was hoping for a picture of Chelsea at the coffee shop, but I know that feeling when so engrossed in conversation the camera is forgotten – just divine.

  17. Glad you two had such a good time. This makes me want to bake Christmas cookies, thank you, Laurie!

    I am lost for words.

  23. To start with a red beret AND Eiffel tower memento to finish with the coffee-like biscuits – fabulous images., Laurie.

  24. I usually read Corey’s blog early in the morning here, but, today is now almost tomorrow and here I sit, ready for bed, and I am drooling and hungry for these scrumptious looking cookies dipping their way onto and into the cups of your desert menu, Laurie. Fabulous post and I’ll try not to blame you for the calories I’m about to consume.

  25. Wonderful post!
Oh! I must have missed that contest, either busy, or because I’m relatively new to the blog! But, COREY? May she PLEASE have a re-do? Because I think it would be totally awesome to see a pic of HER toes peeking through elegant shoes along side HIS White Sock and Sandal Clad Feet!
