Collective Energy, Prayer and a whole lot of Love

Arm and hand

Since I have been blogging I have received many comments, emails and letters. Most of them are thoughtful greetings of gratitude and praise, others are asking for advice, some simply to say hello, and others asking me to pray with them for something.

The first three years of blogging, I responded to every comment, email and letter I received. It became a full-time job without monetary value, but rich in the sense of community. I did so willingly until my Father went into the hospital and later died. After that, I rarely wrote back, to any email, comment or letter. Simply put I did not have the energy to do so.

Over two years have passed (… nearly three years!) I am no longer grieving, nevertheless, I cannot go back to responding to every email, comment and or letter I receive. Ask my family and closest friends how lackadaisical I have become in regard to responding. Wait is lackadaisical a word?

HandsYesterday Elaine wrote in the comment section that it was her last day of chemo treatment. I remember when I had chemo. I remember the last chemo session I had. I remember the hope and fear that sat by my side. Elaine, Jenna, Jill… I often am sitting by your side in prayer, in hope that all is well…soon.

Another commenter, Zosia left her job after sixteen years to move back to Poland. What newness is in the air! What mixed emotions you must be carrying, packing, and unpacking… Certainly, your quitting your job and moving makes others think about what they want, and what they need to do to make it happen.

Judy O. and Bramble do you know each other? Both of you are taking Zumba lessons… what is Zumba? African dancing? A dear friend of mine, Frances, takes African dancing… and her naturally blond hair and blue eyes are only English by birth. Her soul is rooted in Africa.

I might not write back, I might not respond, but I do pray. I do believe that this blog and those who leave comments and read the comments have a collective power that can offer goodness, inspiration… hope. I think that is why many of you find this blog inspiring. Not simply because I put a few words and a photo or two on it. But because those of you who gather here are wonderful, generous, caring, easy going, delightful bunch. Your energy is positive and attractive.

Medals religious

Years ago I went to Lourdes with Annie. I took a handful of medals, and a list of names of people that many of you asked me to pray for. Annie and I prayed, tossing medals with peoples names attached to them into the spring at Lourdes. When we ran out of medals we wrote the names on flower petals.

Annie's-hand

I often wondered what happened to those we prayed for….

George and Priscilla's daughter…

Taylor Parker of Chico…

Colette's love…

Kay who was having foot surgery…

Michael and Rebecca…

My friend Elaine asked me to pray for her husband Marshall….

Firvidas, daughter Daria who was fighting for her life….

Marie-Noelle's children's friend Christophe…

Angela Marie's son Robert who was going to Kuwait and Tommiea who's husband serves as well…

Alyson Thrift and Abigayle Van Cleave, who were struggling with cancer….

Daisies in hand

Your prayers and thoughts have helped me. Have helped my friend Shelley, have guided many who read this blog looking for inspiration, hope, kindness…healing.

I guess I am saying thank you. I suppose I am saying that even though I cannot respond back to everyone, I do think of you, pray for you, wish you well and am grateful for your being part of this blog.

(If ever you want to respond to a comment of the blog please feel free to do so.)

  1. Corey – THANK YOU for all you do and share on this blog. Your love and caring spirit is felt by all who read it. I have felt your prayers the few times I have asked for them…and I’ll never forget your kind, caring, compassionate words to me — 4 years ago — when I emailed you out of the blue after being diagnosed with uterine cancer. Thankfully, I remain cancer free today, and pray that I do the rest of my life.
You touch so many people across this globe with your kindness. I’m thankful that you, too, are touched by all of us who follow your blog.
    Many hugs!!!
    -Debi

  2. I rarely ever comment because it seems a bit intimidating. But I have been reading your posts for years. You site is one I come to daily for inspiration and warmth and escape. Thank you, Corey.

  3. You are an angel on earth…

  4. Thank you for posting your message today Corey. You did always respond back in 2007 when I first began blogging. It was so encouraging and because of your example, I try very hard to respond to every post someone leaves on my blog. A “pay it forward” sort of. You were also so kind when my husband and I were planning a trip to southern France in helping me plan my “shopping.”
I’m sure you have far too many readers these days to be able to keep up with all but for some of us we’ve been with you and your family through many passages. You have a gift of keeping making us, your readers, feel as if we are a part of your family. Thank you.

  5. I love you my darling friend
When prayers go up blessings come down.
I love you and am really enjoying reading your daughter’s blog.
She has your fine sense of style and gifts with words and photographs.
I send my love and smiles across the miles.
You deeply touch my heart with your glorious golden gift of friendship.
    God bless us all
    Love Jeanne

  6. What a lovely post today. May God continue to bless you every day! Have a great Sunday.

Please know that sometimes it is enough to write it out and know someone is reading. Lovely post. The photo of female hands is incredibly beautiful and touching.I stared at it for so long–moved to wonder about the personalities and lives attached to each.

  8. Beautiful post from a beautiful woman!

  9. Fabulous post Corey!! So encouraging and inspiring! Thanks for praying for your friends around the world. You are making a difference in our lives!! Love, Cy

  10. Corey, your lovely, caring spirit lives in all who read your wonderful, inspiring blog. You are a friend who comes into my
computer daily, even though we have never met face to face! I don’t write often; however, I so appreciate your sharing stories of you, your family and friends. I am so thankful for all you do!
    With hugs and prayers,
    Suzanne

  11. I think we get caught up in unofficial blog policy. What I mean is we worry about how many readers we have, did we answer every post, how many hits a day to our site…blah, blah, blah. That’s not the reason I blog and clearly it’s not that for you either. Thank you for this post. It was lovely. As are all of your posts and pictures. Light and filled with love. This is a strange new world we live in and I’m glad you’re part of it. – Hugs and Happy Sunday. – Kathy

  12. A beautiful post Corey…
You start the conversation…we carry on with our comments when we can. Your thoughts, insights and feelings so beautifully written here on your blog inspire and comfort so many people. Thank you for sharing your gifts, and for spreading compassion and love with your open and honest posts.
    Take care, Laura 🙂

  13. Katiebell

I have been a real mess tonight corey,… I dont ask for your prayers (or anyone’s) as I dont name my devine. Others need them more no doubt, but please anyone, send some healing love vibes (maybe its the same thing?) may way if you have any spare. Your words and images are connections, and love and care enough for us all Corey. xx Kdbell

  14. Your zest for life is so inspiring…and why many of us read your blog daily. Thank you for bringing us into your heart and home. P.S. No need to reply 😉

  15. listened this morning to a woman on the radio talking about her cancer, and the ALLNESS of God…..that is what it’s all about
we individually pray, and God adores our prayers, and He is totally in charge of all that is
your wonderful and funny and sharing blog is another form of prayer for many who never go to church – methinks God listens to every word that comes His way, with love
    girl, you are FINE
xo from Judy in Ft Worth

  16. Hello Corey .. a very touching post , and yes I totally understand that you cannot reply to everyone of us all the time. I love reading your blog, inspirational, funny , moving and enjoy all your funny stories of FH and you. :-)Thank you to you 🙂

  17. Bonnie Steelman

Corey, you have so many gifts. One is certainly photography (I ooze with envy!)and the other is how you touch so many lives with your words. Its seems as though you are speaking to each person individually “in response” through your blog.
I “met” an adorable lady here on your blog a long time ago and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think of her (Marie-Noelle). How powerful is that – that you can link so many lives, even across the ocean!
I lost my mother in November and I found comfort here. Even though you didn’t know it. Thank you.
I don’t post often but I read as often as possible and I think of this comment section as a continuation of your post. There’s so much wisdom shared by these ladies. I’m thankful for you, pray for you, think of you as a friend and think of you all here fondly!
    With love –
    Bonnie

  18. Yann is a very lucky man. Of course kindness had a way of repaying itself, you seem equally as blessed.

  19. Corey…
The circle of HANDS photo is sooooo moving!!! OMG… You are so gifted with WORDS…
    Jeanine, ChiPPy!-SHaBBy!

  20. Thank you Corey for continuing to inspire and comfort. By the very regularity of your blog you give meaning, compassion and friendship.

  21. Corey, you always make me want to give you a hug after I finish reading a post (usually halfway through!) and this one is no exception.
I value our (online) friendship so much as you are a lovely, kind, funny and interesting woman, and I always see others of the same sort within your comments. I feel like we’d all have a lot to talk about over a cup of tea or glass of wine!
    Tamara

  22. Dear Corey,
Thank you for thinking about me. I really appreciate it. Although quitting a job after 16 years and moving countries is a big and stressful undertaking, it’s something I have chosen to do despite many unknowns. An illness or a passing of a loved one is something that we have no control over and it’s so much more difficult, painful and heart breaking. Therefore, I would like to join the circle of collective energy and send my best and most sincere thoughts and wishes to those readers that might need it more than me at this moment. May this collective energy give you strenght to endure.

  23. Corey,we will probably never meet face-to-face but the internet has made it possible for this little meeting place….your words have helped me and I hope my comments have spoken to you…..life is just so big and mysterious and ineffable…much love.
    Missy from the bayou

  24. I may have told you this before, don’t remember…. One day I was browsing through the comments of a post and saw a comment from a gal named Isabel (just like me!), who happened to mention her native country, Portugal (just like mine!). We established contact and have continued to do so… She, just like me, is an expat (she lives in the east Coast, I live in the west coast). Just comes to show that we all splash in the fun “ripples” that follow your posts, and we all gather hands to hold each other steadily…!

  25. Thank you for this post this morning. I am home sick with three sick children and missing being able to worship this morning. This post made me feel so grateful and worshipful for the good the Lord can bring about. Thank you for being here.

  26. Corey, We know you can’t reply to everyone. To do that would be to replace your family with us and none of us would expect you to do that. Besides, what on earth would you blog about if you were always busy replying to your readers? We read your blog because you are a kind, compassionate, sincere woman who inspires us all to live better lives each day. The pictures are just a wonderful bonus. We know you read our comments because you mention it from time to time…again, you are a sincere woman. And that is enough for us to know you care and keep us coming back to read more.
Thank you, your family, and your friends for sharing your lives with us!
    Carolyn

  27. Joanne Tuchman

The fact that you can touch so many hearts and lives with your thoughts and prayers is one of the reasons that we can all find hope in this age of modern marvels. I know for certain that those who worked on the first computer systems had no idea that their labor would bring all of us together in such amazing ways.

  28. Toni Mason

Corey, when you pray for all your readers we are all better for it. Keep it up! and thank you..

  29. Corey-I am so honored that you mentioned my name in your blog. It made me cry and I am trying to figure out why. I do know your compassion and humor and zest for life are truly an inspiration to me every day. And I feel part of a very special group from around the world with you as our common thread. I didn’t realize there was another blog reader who loves Zumba. I will have to watch for Bramble’s comments. By the way, Zumba is a combination of many latin dances (salsa, cha cha etc) choreographed to music to make a fantastic and fun aerobic exercise class. You would LOVE it! At 63 I am the oldest in the class, but when I Zumba I feel ageless.
    love, Judy O

  30. Vickie H.

God bless you, Corey, and all whose eyes fall on the words of this blog!

  31. Corey – you are one of the most generous people I know!!! Your heart just overflows with love and light! Though we don’t share ‘words’ often, I know that you are there and listening… Peeking into your world is always such a treat for me, takes me away – like a good book does.
Blessings to you and to dearest Shelley!
    Hugs and kisses
    Ulla

  32. I start out everyday by reading your blog post. You’re an inspiration to lead a rich and wonderful life.
Thank you, Corey for all of your sharing.

  33. Thank you Corey, you are an amazingly kind and thoughtful lady. Lots of your readers pray for you and your family too!

  34. Ohhh, Corey!!
I throw my arms open wide and give you a BIIG Obnoxious American bear hug!! It is no small thing you are doing with all those prayers- no small thing!
    God Bless you, Dear One!

  35. Judy Wootan

Corey, I have responded just a few times to tell you how much I enjoy your blog and how it touches and feeds my soul. It is like a daily prayer and I have to read it every day or I feel that something is missing. You are so gifted and blessed with your writing talent and photos, truly beautiful and a source of great inspiration to so many. Love it! Judy

  36. We are a family brought together by the heart and soul you place in this blog. Like others, I am a follower who reads much more than I post. The majority of the time my thoughts are found within the comments of others then, I am content. Today was different for me. Corey, you have made this a comforting place to respond to your stories, think about your words and pictures, make connections with others, share brief moments of our lives, and for some to share the fears that knock on our doors. I think “collective energy” is spot on. We all read, think, and sometimes pray for someone through your blog. Thank you Corey, and everyone for the thoughts we bring each other, written and unwritten, spoken and unspoken.
On another note, today I read a comment from, “Judy in Ft. Worth” – Hi, I’m Susan in Ft. Worth! I would love to meet you.

  37. I’ve appreciated your prayers for me and my family these last few years and hope you know that you and your family are in my prayers as well. You have the best readers here; the comments are so caring and come as if from a family of friends.
Katiebell,I’m sending loving thoughts your way…

  38. Paula S In New Mexico

I have read this blog for several years now. I would never dream of missing a single day. I don’t always comment, but I do read and ponder and pray.
This is a wonderful collection of souls and I’m thrilled to be part of the “gang”.
    Love you Corey.

  39. Christine Allen

You are an outstanding individual. Your trip to Lourdes with Annie was filled with amazing power. We are blessed to have you in our lives. Thank you, Corey.

  40. Corey, I read your blog daily, and have for many years. I speak of you to others as if an old friend. You are that to me. That we have not yet met is simply a matter of timing. It will be. Thank you for your blog and your energy and thank you to all the wonderful souls gathered here. What a bunch we are, indeed! 🙂
    (((hugs))
P.S. How about a prayer the Packers win today! ha!

  41. Thank you Corey for lifting us up with the light and beauty of your blog, and thanks to everyone for all the wonderful and heartfelt comments daily.
Wishing everyone love, peace, balance, rest and good health…

  42. Thanks for your prayers, they are so treasured.

  43. You make me want to be a better person. In the past, few humans inspired me as much as my animal friends. Count yourself as one of the few.
    ~Andie

  44. Corey; HELP -I am an addict – to your blog… 🙂
Just back from a weekend in beloved Devon/England – the first thing I did after downloading my umpteen mails was visiting your blog – and this last entry (haven’t read the formers yet) made me melt – I KNOW and firmly believe too that all prayers help, the personal ones and the ‘general’ ones – I am witness to their power and know that my prayers helped many with their worries, pains, scars, but also multiplied their joys, thankfulness and hopes!
So THANK Y.O.U. for everything YOU do for your readers, it’s so much! Your faithful followers are proof enough!
    Greetings and God’s blessings
    Kiki

  45. Corey, your blog is the first one I read every day and has been since I found you about 3 yrs. ago. Like some of the others, I don’t comment very often but, like Susan, I find that my thoughts are already expressed by the lovely ladies here.
I have come to understand the reason why I enjoy you and your blog. Without going into detail, I lost my heart about 8 years ago. I don’t know how else to describe it. I was in a dark place and when I found you Corey, it felt like I had found a beacon, something to hold onto. Your open heart has taken mine and has been slowly showing me my way back.
I do not believe in God but am a very spiritual person. I believe that the people who come into our lives, do so for a reason. We are all connected. And your blog and all of us followers are an example of that. Your blog is a healing place, and not just for me I think. Thank-you for shining your light Corey, I’m so glad I found you.
p.s Your brother Matthew may not think the Brocante is a healing place but that’s because he isn’t “feeling” the love. Ha ha!

  46. Corey,
You’re right the prayers are working and they do make a difference. You are creating a community.
It’s so lovely to see you growing in so many directions.
When is Oprah going to contact you about doing a show? hugs, E

  47. Amen. and thank you.

  48. jend’isère

Even before I Beam, U Beamed energy through your artful thoughtfullness and deeds, I assume. Merci for being you.

  49. Jenny McH

Hi Corey, I was reading thru the comment section & I wanted to send Katiebell some much needed ‘healing love vibes’. I hope others are doing the same for Katiebell, it sounds like she needs lots of caring thoughts to be sent her way. from Jenny (Australia) PS. Katiebell, please know you are in my thoughts, may the days ahead be a little brighter for you.

  50. Dear Corey,
I thought of you the other day because you did let us glimpse your grieving the loss of your father a little. My father passed away a little over a month ago, and your story resonated with me. The experiences of others can sometimes only be taken in when the time is right. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings – for living with open hands and an open heart.
I understand the reluctance to respond to and engage with all who reach out to us. The very same thoughts you’ve expressed crossed my mind and lips today. I wonder if I’ll feel responsible to keep a certain level of correspondence or social engagement. In some ways, I hope not. There’s a certain freedom in letting go.
    Blessings to you!

  51. Corey,
What a nice post. You are a very sweet person. I keep returning over and over to your blog. Today is one example of why I continue to do so.

  52. I know you do, Corey. And thank you for that.

  53. Hi Corey! Thanks for the shout out, Judy O. explained Zumba very well but I do not know her. I too am loving this form of excercise and it is exilarating! Lots of fun and the girls I go with are all late 40’s-50’s and it is good fun! If you like to dance, you would like this! They have dvd’s now if you are curious.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, photographs and words with us. A window to the world through your eyes is often a beautiful, interesting and funny view I have so enjoyed! We share a love of many things though I would fly with FH, I love flying in small planes. Your generosity of spirit has touched many and I hope this blog brings back to you as much as you share with all of us. Peace and blessings to you and yours and to all your readers too.

  54. Oh Beautiful Corey…what wonderful words of hope for all of us. Loved the pictures of the joinging hands. ??? how do you “manipulate” your photos. I do iphoto (built into the computer) but already want more ….also what kind of camera do you use. I’m getting an itch.

  55. Thank you Corey. You shine bright to light our way. God bless.

  56. Katiebell

thank you Jenny (from Australia – me too!) and star, and anyone else sending love, it has helped. I am a little calmer and things are a little clearer today. xx Very nice to have your responses, it brings tears to my eyes.

  57. You added my daughter’s name, Jessica, to your prayers when she had lost all her hair at age 20 from alopecia ariata. She is now 26 andher hair is past her shoulders. Thank you and thank God.

  58. Yes your blog touches many. I met Jackie from Bliss farm by mentioning your blog when I saw her booth at at a vintage market in Boston. Turns out she “knew” you from your blog too. Then yesterday my french next door neighbor was over for tea and I showed her your blog about your mother in law and the herring post. That led to her sharing her memories about the same dish when she was a child in France. The world is a wonderful place when we open ourselves up to it’s possibilities. Your blog does that for us. Also I sent Chelsea’s blog link to my daughter who studies Chinese. The connections continue.

  59. I was left in tears, seeing my daughter’s name among those you wondered about. She survived that terrible year; meningitis after a reaction to the dural graft. Six months of continuous torture. Two more shunts, a second into the brain and a third into her spine. The chemo left her body covered in blisters. How can this have been an answered prayer? But it was…..she walks on her own (although some days she has difficulty standing or moving)but the doctors state that in viewing her MRI’S she should not be able to stand or walk.
There are many days that I despair thinking of how much of her life has been robbed. She cannot put to use the many years she worked so hard to become a professor, despite her physical disabilities. To have her condition deteriorate, just as she reached the “prize” was heart breaking. On the more positive days, I am grateful that she still exists and was able to fulfill a dream. She became a mother. I am busy helping her raise a beautiful little girl. A little girl that could have been a clone, both in looks and intelligence. Only one difference. Her tiny body is not a quilt of scars.
There is no cure for Daria’s illness. I take a day at a time and pray for courage and grace in accepting the lot that has been given to us.
    Firvidas.
I do ask for prayers, especially for my youngest daughter’s unborn child. A sonogram suggests the possibility of the same condition as Daria. Tuesday the 25th, massive testing. Please keep her in your thoughts. Thank you.

  60. Corey,
This was a beautiful post. I feel the power of your love through your blog. You feel like an old friend. You are the one blog that I regularly read. Your words and spirit have given me hope and lifted me up many times, as I know they have for so many others. Thank you for keeping us all in your prayers. We pray for you and yours as well.
    with love,
    carol

  61. Ana Maria

  70. katiebell

thanks Jenny 🙂 feeling a bit better. x

  71. katiebell

    thanks Star. x

  72. C, I read this yesterday but no time to respond. It is beautiful. I, too, read your blog first thing each am . . .I don’t consider my morning a good one without a little TIC in it. You know, I did selfishly write to you a few years back asking a lot of dumb travel to France questions . . .you did write me back! I knew in my heart when I wrote that email that you were a busy mom plus you wrote an inspiring blog, but I just wanted to reach out and contact you. Thanks so much for that Corey. I love how you think, your compassion for others and how this blog touches me and so many others. You have changed my way of thinking and broaden my horizons. Made my dreams larger and given me hope. I want to believe that one day I’ll be able to buy you a glass of wine or dinner, that we will meet, that all the TIC followers will all get together at some point. I could never thank you enough for what you have shared and given to me that has touched my life.xo

  73. Random Monday am thoughts…1)the skin on the back of my hands is more crepe-like than I thought, 2)warm boots needed for today’s -32 weather/remind #2 to wear snowpants to school, 3)how many children have been warmed by a steaming bowl of oatmeal?, 4)must make time to write a few thank you notes today, 5)a good absorbant towel is a pleasute, 6)how blessed am I to live and be loved. j.

  74. Brenda L from TN

Corey, I do not expect you to reply any/all comments left on here; nor does anyone else. We just know that YOU read them and I appreciate that. Your blog is the first thing I read every morning just like many on here do. You “let” us into your life and I like that. I feel as if I am talking to a friend who lives far away. I am having some health issues (stiff neck and back)and appreciate your kind thoughts. If you had to answer every comment you wouldn’t have time to sleep.
We love you and please know that you are thought of in a very special way.

  75. I believe you conveyed what most of us, who read your blog, feel. Prayerful, “thinking of you thought’s” and wishing we could comment on many of the “comment’s” ourselves but feel we would be intruding into someone’s privacy.
I pray though out the day with little arrow prayers here and there for people who come into my minds, and of course Corey you are there and your family, Annie, and those you have spoken of who are needing a little help.
Love you…love your pictures and comments.

  76. We are so blessed that with God, The Father, His Son, Jesus and His Holy Spirit, there is no time limit, no distance in the spirit realm, one prayer hits Him, just as effectively as three Hundred! God has placed you here for blessing others, you can leave the heavy duty miracles to Him! winks…God Bless you, Corey!

  77. I often think of you, and the beautiful email I received from you after my brother died… It was 2 years on Jan 18, and your words are still in my heart dear Corey… Merci. x

  78. Elaine L.

    Corey,
There has never been any doubt in my mind that you read each of our posts and take them into your heart. That’s just the way you’re made. You are an Earth Mother with an old soul.
I believe that all of us that read your blog feel a deep spiritual connection.
    ~elaine~
