Chelsea's Post Yesterday
Hello! Happy New Year !
I'm back from the South (of China) where I celebrated the Chinese New Year.
Welcome into the year of the rabbit!

Since I arrived in China a few yeaks ago, people have been preparing for the Spring festival. Red banners are taped aroung doorways. Lanterns dangle from trees. Firecrackers are for sell on every block. Students and seasonal workers travel back to their families.

As we walked around towns, everyone was getting ready to celebrate.

Food was for sell all over.
Fat fluffy chickens were waiting … ignorantly!

Families gathered as they played cards and prepared meals.

Firecrackers went off all over. Almost sounded like a war zone with bombs dropping! It was funny how only the foreigners would be surprised and would jump or scream… the local people didn't react to the loud "BOOMMMS", not even the little kids!

The Guangxi area is simply breathtaking! I don't think pictures or words can do it justice.
The views were mysterious and inspiring.
It felt like another world where time stood still.

French Husband and I are planning to visit Thailand and China, well small parts of it at least, we leave at the end of the month. Small back packs for a big adventure. Today we spoke to Chelsea about Beijing, we hope to travel together to the Great Wall. I am so excited.

    Hi Mopsy
I am not sure, as the one she had was stolen (while in Calif.). Recently, she bought a new one. I’ll ask and post it here when I find out.

Hearing about your travels will definitely increase my excitement for the travel. Happy Chinese New Year.

  16. As others have already commented, Chelsea’s photos are indeed lovely (there is one of a tree-shaded bridge at twilight that I soaked up for a minute or more). Better yet, her cheery, accepting attitude to the new world she finds herself in makes her blog a wondrous, shared adventure for the reader, too.

Lucky you. See the new adventures that are also coming you way. Safe travels and blue skies. Enjoy!!!

Happy Birthday Corey! You had so many comments on your birthday I didn’t want to leave you another as I wanted you to be out celebrating your day.
I will also be going to Thailand, in June for me. It is part of our trip around the world or as we call it “The Last Hurrah Tour”. I hope you blog from Thailand and give good travel tips.
    Love Ellen

  21. Happy Belated Birthday, Corey!
After I retired and people asked me what it was like to be retired, I said that it is like every day is my birthday. You said that you do not usually celebrate your birthday. With all your travels, fun meals, the brocantes, your children, and so on, it seems to me that most days are like your birthday or special to you. I appreciate your sharing your special days.

  22. How exciting for Chelsea and for you and Yann – China and Thailand with tiny backpacks….how will you bring back all that you find….the silks, the fabric……

  23. Nice plan, Corey and Yann. Are you going to visit HK?

  24. Nice plan, Corey and Yann. Are you going to visit in HK?

Oh man, China, the great wall! You will have so much fun and I can’t wait to share the experience with you via your blog.

  26. Corey,
My husband was in Bejing, last year. He took a train to see a part of the Great Wall where there were less tourists. It is an area where the Great Wall goes into the ocean.
    He loved China!

  27. OFF TOPIC: I don’t suppose you get much Super Bowl coverage in Provence. However, the Green Bay Packers beat my Pittsburgh Steelers tonight 🙁
However, I don’t know if any of your brothers have told you this yet or not, but we both have a connection to Green Bay quarterback (and Super Bowl Most Valuable Player) Aaron Rodgers:
He’s from Chico, and attended Butte College after high school. Then he went to Cal (small world)!

  28. Such a talented daughter. I look forward to reading about your next adventure.

    Hi Kathie,
I didn’t know. Wow, fun facts!

  31. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Elaine,
Can you send me more info. That sounds wonderful. Chelsea is planning that part of our trip, as we are going together. Any info you can pass on I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    c

  32. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Irina
Aren’t you coming to Provence too?
MAybe we could meet on both sides…
We could go to HK.Nothing is set in stone.
    Thanks,
    C

  33. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Sharon,
I love what you said, coin in your pocket. When I say it, I will think of you too!

  34. The camera I use is a Canon IXUS 130. (It’s a small pocket camera.) Almost all Canon’s Compact Cameras have a color accent mode… it’s so much fun! The reason it took me so long to get a new camera is precisely because I wanted it to have this feature! I recommend it 100%.

  35. The Great Wall…..how much do I envy you!!!!!

  36. Cynthia @Beatnheart

Your daughter has picked up your talents. Her photography is really creative and beautiful…you must be so proud. I like your new format. Makes for an interesting read.

  37. I will be anxious to hear your impressions of China. When I was there two years ago I visited the Great Wall. One of the top 10, well now it’s top 30, things of my life. The whole time I was hiking up to the top I couldn’t believe I was actually there.

  38. Did Sacha get to attend a Super Bowl watching party? I’d think that with all those uncles and cousins in the Willows area (and you’ve mentioned that at least Brother Mathew’s a football fam), that some of them would’ve had a party.

  39. Hi Chelsea!
thanks for sharing your technique! I was admiring your pictures, but was 100% sure that you used Photoshop to edit them! Nice to know that it’s a camera’s feature. I’ll check out the model you have as I am looking for a new camera as well!
    Happy Rabiit Year!

  40. Hey Chelsea, I had trouble leaving a comment on your blog so I am going to leave one here for you. The pictures are beautiful, like the ones your mother takes, with an Eastern flair. You are glowing in that pretty scarf, mountain air agrees with you. Keep it up, it’s a wonderful read and I hope you continue to have the time of your life!

  41. Marie-Noëlle

Chelsea’s blog is great, I love her pictures !!!
Plenty more to see on … YOURS !!!
Pleased you can make it !

  42. Marie-Noëlle

I am surprised too to know it’s a camera feature… Thought Chelsea was a Photoshopper !!!
