Things of Interest…

  Barber sponge and soap bowls

Since I cannot say the "B" word…

Let me just say this:

I went somewhere this weekend, and found many things of interest.

Not writing about this thing that interests me is like saying to someone I love:

"You interest me."

Not real exciting, not real passionate.

Bird cages Barometer round Bone measuring stick Child's dinette piece

Harp stamp Chocolate fish mold

But I plan to win this bet. So if you want to hear about the "B" word you might want to check out "my things of interest on my site where I sale those things of interest…",

'cause nobody said I couldn't write about the things of interest over there.

Do you know my brother lives in an old house, and has a few things of interest of mine in his house? Yeah isn't that interesting for someone who doesn't like "interesting things".

Have you ever made a bet? What was it about? Did you win? Was it worth it?

I made a bet with my cousins Sheba and Francabolla in 1987 about who could lose the most weight. I won. I had the most to lose, and the most to gain….. I was leaving San Francisco to France to visit French soon to be Husband.

Francabolla lost. In fact she hadn't nothing to lose. I think she made the bet just to see me give her my chocolate and wine. Do you remember that Franca?

  1. Belated happy birthday! I’m sure you had a great time!

I have many “old things” in my home too. Love to browse for those “old things”. Not a betting person (hate to lose…lol), but I bet you WIN your bet with your brother! BTW, love the little rose colored metal pitcher.

  3. Oh, Corey. I think by posting those pictures and writing about those things you love, you have already lost the bet to your brother. It wasn’t simply to avoid using the word brocante, but to not write about the brocante.
I won a bet with my 18-year-old daughter just over Christmas break when she bet me we would be late to some event, and I, of course, sped along to get there on time. She bought me a Starbucks white mocha. Yay! I miss her now that she is back at college.

I love the poisson d’avril molds. China sounds fabulous! Talk about seeing some old things. That is an old culture. E

  5. Your brother should concede now so that you can use the B word again. Perhaps your readers can declare you the winner and he can pay up and you can move forward with passionately posting about things of interest =D

I think we would all agree, this is a bet worth losing – bring on the B word 🙂

  7. How interesting! I have made bets, lots of them, and I haven’t always won. For some reason I was always spurred on to win when the bet was with someone I once fought over ice cream and toys with. When I won those bets it was always worth it!

About ten years ago my husband told someone I had 50 pairs of shoes. I denied it. He kept at it, and finally asked me if I wanted to bet on it. I don’t like to bet, so I said, “No, but I know I don’t have 50 pairs of shoes.”
He finally forced me to bet him that I didn’t have 50 pairs of shoes.
I didn’t, even counting slippers. My prize?
    TWO NEW PAIRS OF SHOES!

  9. I love your things of interest, especially that pink thing and the one with the little fish. Yes, I have a cousin that knew he could get me to do crazy things by daring me, I would always take a dare. Thank goodness most people didn’t know that.

well…can you refer to those “B” things as “bitchin” instead of the “old B word?”
I think that is the new slang for something that is awesome to look at, or buy.
Just tryin to help you out here:-)

  11. Bet you can’t say the ‘B’ word!

  12. Brother Mathew

What bet? I can’t remember making a bet. What and when? Franca and Sheba made a bet with you? Whatever.

Nice try! But you’re not fooling anyone – including your brother, I fear 🙂

  15. Your things of interest are SO interesting!!! You WILL win this bet!

  16. I think when you publish your book, it should definitely include that “B” word in the title…

Do you see any crystal chandeliers out there among the interesting places?

Hi Sharon Penney-Morrison…I’m going to admit to my age here. Maybe Corey remembers from growing up in California, but ‘bitchin’ is actually an old slang word from the 1960-70s surfer culture in California. Yeah man, those waves were bitchin’! She’s bitchin’ chick. I think it was a way of saying something naughty that our parents couldn’t object to…too much!
Corey…I love those little cage ‘things of interest’ are they bird cages? I’ve seen something similiar in a museum that were cricket cages from China.

    A gazillion.

  23. Touche’ Corey!

  24. Well I can remember a bet with my father….he didn’t think I could cook soooo the bet was on. I won ..I tried a new recipe that he turned out to love and had Mom make for him afterward. It was pepper steak on rice and I also made a coconut three layer cake that everybody loved and I have never made again( maybe I should :o) ) I even set the table with roses from Mom’s garden for the center piece. I won and the best part was my Dad was smiling from ear to ear as he was so proud of me. I was twelve at the time.
Thanks for jogging my memory…I’m starting the day with a happy thought:o) I so enjoy your blog..Thank you for sharing Mary

  25. I haven’t ever truly made a bet. I’ve always avoided them in fear of losing. I’m sort of inspired to find something to bet on.

  26. I don’t bet (or gamble) either.

  27. In 7th grade, I bet a boy in my class that I could beat him in ‘indian wrestling’. I won. It was humiliating for him. I gained a briefly lived smug satisfaction. It would be probably better if it never happened, but I doubt that it was life changing for either of us. In retrospect, I think it is better to consider my motives and to choose my battles wisely. The thought of wandering an market, searching for “things of interest” makes my pulse quicken. The plan is to do exactly that in a trip to France in May for a milestone wedding anniversery. I wonder how to prepare for the French experience. As always, thank you for sharing your enchanted life. I learn each day.

  28. Corey, I’ll be in Angers for a month this summer and was wondering if you knew of any good brocantes in this area. If not you, perhaps you know someone who might?
    thanks!!

  29. Franca Bollo

I lost by gaining. Weight as well as wisdom … wisdom to know that placing a bet with Dolores or her Coco Puff will result in a certain loss.

  30. Franca Bollo

Is a gazillion more or less than a bajillion? I can never remember …
